0:51 I'd agree that the Octarius box and the Shatterpoint box are roughly equivelent (Shatterpoint includes two full forces where the Octarius box does not, but it's close). The KT starter box really isn't the same thing though with 1.5 teams and nowhere near enought terrain to play.
Like I said in response to a previous comment, Shatterpoint box is really one full team (the Mandos) and two half teams that want you to add to them, in much the same way, I would argue, at the Vet guard. - But the kill team starter box is for sure a poor product.
Someone read the memo wrong when building the Death Korp team for the promo shots. Instead of the medical bag on its own base, they should have put the mine on the base. That is a token the Vet Guard player has to actually place on the board.
I think Deadzone from Mantic is also a good contender. Really really good rules but you also want some additional terrain and miniatures for the full experience.
I happen to have never played that one, but it seems like a good starter set from a quick google.

@@TabletopImpulse It often gets dismissed because it uses a grid instead of measuring in inches but positioning inside the grid still matters and the rule are much more approachable then the current iteration of KT with the rather complicated line of sight rules.
15:40 I'd say a very narrow win for Shatterpoint based on the fact that the Vet Guard team really isn't a complete team, but that's splitting hairs. As to the size of the games, Shatterpoint is absolutely bigger than Infinity, Malefaux, etc based on the latest ICv2 figures we have. The next biggest after that is BattleTech.
To fair, it's a victory for Shatterpoint because, and this is important, you can buy it. Thanks for the info - Malifaux really died off huh. Is BattleTech a Skirmish game? I have no idea.
Okay, having watched the video now... here’s where I am... I’m still not interested in buying or playing Shatterpoint... BUT!... I am interested in learning more about the game.
I would like to be thought of as a more generalist channel, although digesting all the new kill team rules on the horizon might take up a bit more of my time when I get back from my Holidays at the weekend.
8:10 I don't buy the idea that the number of models is important. We should be normalising the idea of complete teams/armies being the baseline, no matter how many minis that is. No matter what you say about the Vet Guard being a complete team the base sprues in that box doesn't give you an actual Vet Guard Kill Team, just most of a team and some bad choices.
If you are a painter with no interest in games then number of models is very important because your main metric is how many hobby hours am I getting for my buck. I know you are a Gamer first who views them as playing pieces, but people buy these things to collect build and paint so its a valid comparison IMO. I think that you are intended to expand the vet guard with a second box, but I also think you are intended to by the Obiwan box to compliment anakins squad or the Dooku box to compliment Ventriss squad. I think running either of those squads with Mandos is a bad choice tbh.
@@TabletopImpulse if you are a painter then the fact that things are in a starter box at all is a nett negative. You don’t want all the useless paper and cardboard (and probably the terrain too in a lot of cases).
5:55 A GW version of the Bits & Mortar scheme that most RPG companies subscribe to (you get a digital version of the rules when you buy the physical version) would be the absolute minimum acceptable to stop people 'pirating' the rules. Realisticly paying for rules is a dead model that GW need to move away from.
I agree, but it would require GW to reorganize its entire internal structure so that games developers where not a separate profit center from miniature designers. I buy rulebooks to signal that I care about the games, want the rules writers to be paid more and I want timely FAQ's. GW are a big company who know that many people just buy models to build and paint, I worry about them spending less and less on making games in terms of salaried hours. AMG will do better if they can retain there more holistic view on things as they continue to grow.

I'm "watching" while I paint tau marines. Keep at it!
Same. Tho not Tau. Never Tau

Glad you continue enjoy the content Glandy. It's my mission to stop people having to be alone with their own thoughts while painting.

@@TabletopImpulse BattleTech is usually played with 3 to 9 models a side. It’s not a modern skirmish game, but it is a game at a skirmish scale.

I do plan to do more shatterpoint videos, but It looks like I am going to have to pivot back towards kill team now what with all the new edition hype.
Since the new releases of Kill Team have been somewhat less regular, maybe consider just being a skirmish game generalist?
