I don't even know how I came here from SNL and crochet videos. I don't fish and live faraway from any body of water, and honestly I kinda hope that something silly would happen (and it didn't)...but I'm glad I watch this. It's quite interesting and impressive. 👍👍
Greetings Brother! I’m 47 years old and being born and raised here at Lake of the Ozarks, I’ve been fishing primarily for Crappie and Catfish my whole life. . Two years ago my son, who is now 12, discovered fishing as well, and we haven’t gone more than 48 hours without fishing, every Summer Vacation since that time!! We love fishing. Crappie are easily taken here right off of boat docks. But in my neck of the woods, catfish, especially “Trophy Size” Blues and Flatheads, won’t be taken often, if at all, without owning a small boat to go out at night when they hunt. To that end, I’ve been researching the available options for building one or two small craft for specifically for that purpose, and in all my hours and hours of looking ( days is more like it!). your design, is exceptional in its simplicity and portability, and is one of my favorites, by far. I see many short “Great Job” , and “Cool!” type of generic, quickie comments on your project, but I also see a few , that I feel are a bit condescending. No, your boat won’t last two seconds on my lake on a Saturday , during tourist season, or anyplace that has a name ending with, “Ocean”.. But that’s because you obviously don’t live on, nor plan to use your craft ON any of those waters. It looks to me like a private lake, obviously restricted in its use, and you have no need to fear the Towel Sharks swamping you with their 40’ Sea Ray , monstrosity , that they paid half a million dollars for, to drive 3 months a year. Your design is lightweight, cheap (comparatively) , super easy to build, and in my opinion, your boat is PERFECT for someone with specific needs. Many people become professionals once they get behind a keyboard. They make suggestions about how you should have done this, and why didn’t you do that...How come you didn’t? Blah, blah... You designed it they way you did for a reason YOUR REASONS, for YOUR location and needs. This ain’t your 1st Rodeo either . You’ve arrived at this design based on previous attempts. I wonder how many guys picking apart your efforts have even had the Sack to Man-Up and build their own boat from scratch.? No kit, no blueprints, but from scratch? So, in closing, I’ll only offer these two thoughts for your consideration. 1). The Internet and especially social media , has inadvertently caused most of us to forget our manners. Many of us have become conditioned to see everything through only our own lens, making us very intolerant of anything we identify as not perfect in our conception of the world. Along with now having the ability to be cruel and/or judgmental of others...anonymously.... Don’t let those voices discourage you or your future ideas. Most people can’t see past themselves anymore . Don’t let them discourage you. 2). Keep up the good work!
Every since I was a boy, I always wanted to build something like this. A slight different design is what I've had pictured in my head all these years but many things shown in your video, just might piece together some of things I would need to do to accomplish my childhood dream. I'll be retiring in 2 or 3 years so this might make a very good retirement project for me. Thanks for the video! Have a great day!!!
i used to build rafts all the time as a kid from scrap, they floated great but were always to heavy n bulky to transport, once i got six people on it, and even put a little sail. i was like 12!
Pretty nice design! One recommendation I would make is to use A-line X coating on the pontoons this way you don't have major problems if you run into any hard objects while in the water. It would be pretty easy for a hard piece of debris to make a bad day because the pontoons are made out of high density foam. Align X coding would make it a lot more stout and in the incidents were you did hit a hard piece of debris it would keep it all held together if the foam did break even within the line X coding.

Great job. Having watched this I think I would make the front floats with an angle for less resistance and to help keep the front up. My 6 year old grandson enjoyed watching this with me and discussing how you were building it and why you did it this way or that. Thanks for that experience my friend. Now I want to see a 10lb + bass tow you around the pond lol.

Awesome idea and build. Good thinking dude! The only thing I see that could be added is V shape foam shields to the two front floats to break and disperse the water easier while going forward. That might help glide through the water easier, less stress on the trolling motor.
Awesome guys, I am amazed with your invention and it will be added to my DIY project list. I love fishing and will keep a tab on your video uploads on TH-cam. Thank you. 👍🏾
I've seen literally 100s of these type of videos. Being an avid D.I.Y guy myself, They all seemed to need majior improvements, in one way or another. But, this one on the other hand, is a quality build.. Im impressed.. Awesome work..🍻🍻🍻 slaute..
Thank you for directing me to this video to see how you made the foam pontoons. I have a few more questions: - how well did the cutout sections of foam hold together once the pontoon was wet and under force? The hot glue held? - what did you apply to the outside of the pontoons? Some sort of varnish then spray paint? - does this type of foam become water logged over time, or is a closed cell foam? I would like to make a flotation collar for my 14' aluminum boat. Basically I need a foam log or pontoon, and this approach may do the trick. I've also thought about trying to join 5 gallon buckets end to end to build a pontoon, but I'm struggling with their tapered shape. Thanks a ton
The hot glue held up great and is still going strong. I applied clear Flex Seal because I got it for free, but I have other methods that are way cheaper. Unfortunately, I can not share them because I will be using them in future videos. The foam I used is called XPS foam, it is used in construction. I bought it at Lowe's home improvement. XPS foam has no issues with holding water. Thank you for the questions.
Nice job. I made a foam kayak. If I were going to make a pvc pontoon boat I would use at least 6 inch pvc pipe and eliminate the foam. And maybe 4 pontoons instead of 2 depending on how buoyant it was. The foam gets damaged.
Much better but, anyway, what I would like to say is that you don't need to use the cleaning (purple) colored solution, the clear PVC glue in itself will cement the PVC fittings to the pipe, and it will be water tightly; once cemented you won't be able to separate the fittings from the pipe.
My only suggestion would be to add a fiberglass shell to all the foam surfaces to make them sturdier for transport and around rough rocky shores. That foam would get beat up pretty fast with most guys !
supergokue1 my orasure. Nice and cute design anyway. Besides adding an umbrella, maybe a cup holder at the side of the chair will be a nice addition too. :):
looks very stable, and cool. We lost a great little 2.5hp seagull motor in the Port Adelaide river years ago when it came loose. It will only happen once!
Awesome job. You gave your viewers an outstanding idea and very easy to follow. It looks like you spent approximately $500.00 for the materials and lots of off time for the build. Thanks for sharing and have a good time out on the water. God bless
I was thinking for the foam floats attached under the deck, you could make those hollow and cut some doors in the deck for additional storage under the deck, as is now just wasted space. Seems like the perfect place for a battery or tackle box, maybe a small cooler! Also maybe use the cut out inner circle of the pontoon and fill the pipe to keep the pontoon pipe from filling with water, or just fill the whole thing with spray foam and it can never sink, even if completely swamped by some assholes wake!
Of all the designs of yours, that I've seen so far... and that's several, but probably not all... I like this one the best... simple and easily fast enough for its purpose... I might increase the circumference of the pontoons adding just enough length to their support arms to accommodate the added size... to increase buoyancy and lift your deck maybe 2 more inches out of the water... I'm not sure it is entirely necessary but if I were to make any changes that would probably be it... other than possibly adding a small cooler under the chair...
Good question, I'm not sure about that. I think it would make it go through the water better because of having less resistance. Thank you for the question.
@@supergokue1 ... I was just about to mention That; because Yes, that's correct: Well, the Moving Through Water Better bit, anyway. In a way though, the General Bouyancy wouldn't be better. You could always Add a Piece to the Front of Each of the 4 Floats. You'd need to do All 4, because the Back Ones also get Resistance. Adding then to the Back of each Float would also be advisable: For Resistance when Reversing, and it would also Glide through the water better, by acting like the Trailing Edge of a Plane Wing.
supergopue1: I agree with Jeff Rayan. Myself, I would have to raise it to do the work on it. I was watching you climb on and wondering how it would be for me. I'm 84 and have very bad knees and have a hard time going up even a low 3" step. I think being careful I could get in. I really want to go fishing. In Florida even a trolling motor has to have registration. Fish and Game needs the money to waist. I'm thinking a design with foot pedals would work.
Was that a crock in the water as you were narrating?you remind me of my older brother, he would see stuff at stores, laugh and build one better, use it a couple of times, then sell it.
That is an awesome build. thanks for sharing. Awesome how it floats so well. i like that little circular saw you was using! Where did you find it at??? I would like to have one like that for some of my projects. Take care. Rodney
It looks like a fun little fishing boat. Could you make the pontoons out of something else? It looked like a lot of work to make the pontoons so beautiful.
Great question, I actually have been looking into different materials for pontoons. I hope to try out a new design with a new easier material in a couple of weeks. I can let you know if it is successful or not. Thank you for the question
Hey love this one. Did like the other but this ones to cool if I could make one for my size ide love on. But need twice the pontoons lol. Have a great weekend and hope to see more builds. God bless
I admire your accurate and precise fabrication..you have inspired me to make one...the only difference that I want to try is to put the coolers above the crossing pipes..I believe..not critizing..you did amazing..but I believe that would allow less friction with the water...and because I don't have patience to do all the round foam fantastic work that you did with the pontoons..I will just use a bigger pipe on the side and instead of the octagonal shape I will go rectangular..but thank you so much and see how it works
Nice project, I suggest sort of Cones on the front of Blue cylinders to reduce water resistance, will look like four rockets, and maybe add solar panel in the future.
I don't even know how I came here from SNL and crochet videos. I don't fish and live faraway from any body of water, and honestly I kinda hope that something silly would happen (and it didn't)...but I'm glad I watch this. It's quite interesting and impressive. 👍👍

So great so working project well done. If you made those float sides with a shape of a boat or canoe, had better Buoyancy?
Good question, I'm not sure about that. I think it would make it go through the water better because of having less resistance. Thank you for the question.
I too was wondering the same but more on the aspect of it moving through the water racier rather than buoyancy

That is fantastic and I must say the best thing I’ve seen yet for fishing around weed areas as well
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Nice ride you got there mate!
Cool, thank you :)
Thank you, I appreciate that!
That is an awesome build. thanks for sharing. Awesome how it floats so well.
i like that little circular saw you was using! Where did you find it at??? I would like to have one like that for some of my projects. Take care. Rodney
It is called a Dremel 678-01 Circle Cutter and Straight Edge Guide. It cost about $25.00 on Amazon. Thanks for the question.
@@supergokue1 Thankya sir for all the information & also just for replying back yo me.
Thanks sir . you gave a good idea how to make outriggers flotation for my canoes. enjoy life .
Pretty cool but looks nose heavy. Another foot of foam and tube out front? And maybe a little taper, like a pontoon? Foldable was very clever btw.
Or maybe shift your seat back 6 or 8 inches, or adjustable. You are your own trim.
Nice, thanks for the suggestions!
some nice little solutions in this, clever
Thank you, I really appreciate that :)
Simple but Excellant job young man.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I saw this in 2019..... wish everyone the best who watches this in 2026
TIME TRAVEL IS REAL!!!!
man..what are u duin?!! very creative,impressive..i like that..
Cool, I was very happy with how it turned out as well. Thanks for the comment
Looks like you have the center of gravity perfect. Great job! And it scoots pretty good.
Thank you!
I will probably start adding that to my videos in the future. Thanks for the comment!
CANOPY WOULD BE THE BEST ADDON
Yes, adding shade is a must. Thanks for the comment
Very good idea and brilliant design all very simple and well thought out. regards
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Nice those fittings are not cheap thank you
redwood1957 and the spray foam in the long tubes
dude, this is amazing
I appreciate it, thanks for the comment.
Nice fishing boat
Thanks 👍
Nice boat fishing
Thanks, I appreciate it.
the best I've seen, very small footprint
I appreciate that, thanks for the comment!
Hey love this one. Did like the other but this ones to cool if I could make one for my size ide love on. But need twice the pontoons lol. Have a great weekend and hope to see more builds. God bless
Thank you very much, God bless you and your family as well.
a water strider from the 1920'-30's popular mechanix thanks for building one
Cool, I like it. Thanks for the ideas
Awesome idea!! Kudoes on the styrofoam pontoons..........I love it, man.......Good job!!
Gorgeous
Thank you, I appreciate it!
👍👏✊
Just missing the umbrella 👌love it!
Very cool, thank you. I am definitely adding one on to the upgrade video that will be out in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the comment
