How fantastic it is to see the great Rudolf Friml; composer of many great operettas and songs! The second song he plays here is "Rose Marie" and both songs are from the operetta "Rose Marie". Of course, the movie version starred Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald who both appeared on episodes of the Sullivan show as well (but not together).
What a treasure to have this rare footage of a great composer-pianist demonstrating his artistry. Rudolf Friml is much-overlooked in several categories -- as one of the finest operetta composers of all time, as a composer of wonderful piano music, and as a pianist on the level of Rachmaninoff and other contemporaries. A great delight to have both this clip from 1950, and the other from 1952 (also on the Ed Sullivan show).
The Indian Lovecall...to me this is one of the most beautiful melodies ever composed. Seeing the maestro himself playing it is very special. Bravissimo! 👏👏👏
now not playable on Network TV only on YT channel...what with all the Government/Disfunctional and DEI "families" and competition shows and the proverbial "circus" of sports......sad...havent had my own TV since the 2nd day of the lying Gulf war in 2003 with my verbally abusing my tv to death...never fixed it..nor replaced it.
