Great video. Being a small guy (5ft8 / 1m73) with a 6.3" / 16cm wrist, I chose to forget about the usual 120/80mm or 110/80mm straps (Seiko Sarb065 even comes with a 130/60mm strap) and got myself a 110/70mm Hirsch Boston strap. Put it on a butterfly clasp without a push button, and... it is just perfect.
I have an 8 and quarter inch wrist and keep away from leather straps on some watches because they are never long enough. This is good information thank you
As someone new to world of watches I've learned so much from your watch and learn series. I hope to buy a watch from you soon. Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks for valuable information. Another Watch and Learn idea: watch winders. What are the pros and cons of using them? What should we look for in one?
thank you, it felt like the measurements would be something useless like that, most of the time i just go for the biggest i can find and sometimes get lucky, had so many "big" watch bands not reach, and when i finally find ones that reach they break all the time
Hello Marc; I had been looking for a video on strap changing on an IWC. Find your video, ONE of the most helpful in strap sizing I have seen yet......Thank you. I also went to your web-site and just purchased 2-straps. Great video, very helpful to all......
This is actual for simple buckles but when you try to fit the same strap on deployment buckle and there is lots of types in this deployment category, you may have problems so it's best to have a cheep stap or old one, measure it and get a custom made one in best case or a standard one if it's possible.
I have a large wrist, ie 8 1/2 inch and I wear my watch a little loose. I have a very hard time finding a leather strap. I usually have them custom made, usually by Andrea at Martu Leather in Chile. Can't find them any where else.
Marc, thank you for such an informative video. I've bought a few replacement straps before and agree it is infuriating because there is no standardization. And I am also a proponent of changing straps. They can totally change the look, feel and character of a watch. Please keep up the good work. I really appreciate the honesty in your videos, and how you do business with your e-store. That honesty keeps me a happy customer!
Great job Marc. If you ever get out of the watch industry, you'd be a great teacher. Thanks for doing the math formula for us. Are the silicone rally straps new? Do they come in black?
thank you Mark for the video. another very important point which is how the length of the short-end tells where the bucke stays at your wrist back. i choose the shortest to fit my small wrist and keep the buckle centered proporly. best regards, sameh.
I have an XL wrist (225mm) and most supplied strap and bracelets max out at about 220mm. Ergo, I always have to replace the bracelet or strap. It is important, when buying the strap, to estimate the hole you want to use because it does not look good to use the end holes. The distance from the end to the middle hole can be ascertained from the website pictures but if not I just use +35-45mm which is often the length between the watchcase lugs.
So right and I have to buy mostly from the German site at watchbandcenter. I am quite envious of normal wristed people because they have an unlimited choice of bands and bracelets.
Yes, this is all true. I find a need a strap of about 90mm plus 120mm, giving a total of 210mm, but with the extra length on the buckle end so that it sits under my wrist and not off towards the side of my wrist. This I have learnt by frustrating trial and error.
I also got a 6.75" wrist. Do you buy short or regular leather straps? Short 10,5 + 6,5 cm (4.13 + 2.56 in.) Regular 12 + 7 cm (4.72 + 2.76 in.) are the stap sizes I can choose from.
Ideally, should the watch buckle be on the opposite side of one’s wrist from the watch head? I’ve had bands where the buckle was almost on the side of my wrist...
I was told by a Jeweler many decades ago that your watch strap/bracelet is properly sized if you can fit your pinky finger between your strap/bracelet and your wrist. ~I use this as a guide to get it close.
Missing in you original measuring is where the buckle lands o. The underside of the wrist and how to measure that...likely easy with w thin piece of wire with w hook bent on the end.
Hi I’m planning on buying the seiko srpb41 off of your website, and I’m including a leather strap to come with it. Do you have the service of swapping the bracelet with the leather strap?
I have 5.2 inch wrists. I struggle to find watches that fit me properly, but I'm considering acquiring a seiko srp841. Though short straps are still too long for me. Any tips for me (for 16mm straps)?
next time you get more of those gloves with your logo you should get it to orient the same as the logo shown on the screen it won't kill me but would be pleasing to my mind. ohh love your videos I've "watched" about 15 videos. Thanks Mark!
Do you happen to remember what strap brand you had on the orient star you were modeling? And If you do is it available at your store? I really loved the color and would love to buy it. Thanks Mark!
Very informative as usual. Maybe you can do a video on Nato and Zulu straps. Love the idea and the feel of these straps but I hate that they are so long and you have to tuck the end piece in. I can't understand why they don't make them shorter so that they just fit like a normal watch strap.
Good timing. I've been wanting to replace my watch bracelet and I don't know what size I should get. This video would help me get the right strap for my wrist.
Thank you, great video. I have 6.1" (155mm) Wrist and now wears a 55mm lug to lug watch, so my ideal strap according to your video is 100mm. so should i get a 100x60 mm strap?
Long Island Watch its fine, theres a strapmaker near me, they accept custom strap. do you think the 100x60mm is the ideal strap for me? thanks for reply :)
Thanks for your video! My wrist is about the same size as yours and thinking a short band of 110/70mm. My watch is about the same dimensions as yours also ( 46mm lug to lug ). Wouldn't a short band fit better? Thanks
Mark, could you sometime talk about flieger straps? Like the ones you sell from Laco. I have been looking for information about them but it's hard to find. Thank you.
Have a smaller wrist too. The Hirsch Sheep Skin leather strap I got from you fits me fine using the closest three lug holes. Have been using it daily on my Seiko for the last 6 months. I treat it with Obenauf's leather oil each month and hope get a few years use out it. I can recommend it as a very comfortable strap!
I just bought a very nice faux alligator strap with tubes and Panerai Pre V style buckle on Ebay for $12.99...very good quality even though it's from China
Z.Darren Sort of. Each was given to me during an outing at different times. Thus I never take them off. A bit worse for the wear as they are, at this point, string molecules holding hands, but I'll keep them till they disintegrate.
well it kind of makes sense.. people are getting fatter so everyone has to adjust the "normal/regular/medium" size. today a "medium" is a "long" in the past. it's exactly to be experienced in the clothing industry. if you have been wearing M in shirts and be in the optimal body weight and shape you have to buy S now. it's so stupid but the companies are saying that it's also a trick for the mind of the customer. You are overweight, but are wearing clothes in L (XL in the past) so you think everything is fine with you because you aren't a size XL and so at the end you are not considered FAT.. shit world we live in.
I'd like to thank Marc for all his informative videos for novices like myself.
Perfect timing! I have been evaluating my first leather strap purchase, and had no idea how the sizing worked. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip!
That open heart orient star though! MY GOD.
Excellent!! Mark, Thank you!! You've earned another customer.
Thanks so much!
I have an 8 and quarter inch wrist and keep away from leather straps on some watches because they are never long enough. This is good information thank you
that's my wrist size and the Hirsch xl is always long enough. although i like the L, as that fits on the second hole.
As someone new to world of watches I've learned so much from your watch and learn series. I hope to buy a watch from you soon. Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for valuable information.
Another Watch and Learn idea: watch winders. What are the pros and cons of using them? What should we look for in one?
Thank you!
Very useful video. Beautifully explained!
thank you, it felt like the measurements would be something useless like that, most of the time i just go for the biggest i can find and sometimes get lucky, had so many "big" watch bands not reach, and when i finally find ones that reach they break all the time
One thing you can do if the strap is too long is to add a deployant clasp. They take up some room.
Interesting.
Thanks Mark, that was interesting, and as usual with watches, more complicated than I originally thought.
Haha, thanks!

Wish I saw this video before I bought a bunch of straps! Thanks Marc
Well, now you know : )
I have a large wrist, ie 8 1/2 inch and I wear my watch a little loose. I have a very hard time finding a leather strap. I usually have them custom made, usually by Andrea at Martu Leather in Chile. Can't find them any where else.
Great guide .ps What I have found is that my cheaper thinner leather straps are the most comfortable compared to my thicker high quality straps .
Great info Marc. You explained it well and simple.
Marc, thank you for such an informative video. I've bought a few replacement straps before and agree it is infuriating because there is no standardization. Really informative. I am a "before the bone" person, because I can't my hand freely otherwise, but lets all do our own thing.
thank you Mark for the video. another very important point which is how the length of the short-end tells where the bucke stays at your wrist back. i choose the shortest to fit my small wrist and keep the buckle centered proporly.

Good point, never thought of that; thank you.
Ur knowledge about Watches is absolutely amazing
Thank you.

It is difficult to find a watch that fits with that size wrist.
So right and I have to buy mostly from the German site at watchbandcenter. I am quite envious of normal wristed people because they have an unlimited choice of bands and bracelets.
Nice vid. Haha, you're right about the turtle strap. If you are on the last couple holes, the watch is too big for you anyway.
Yes, this is all true. I find a need a strap of about 90mm plus 120mm, giving a total of 210mm, but with the extra length on the buckle end so that it sits under my wrist and not off towards the side of my wrist. This I have learnt by frustrating trial and error.

Excellent Video. Thanks for sharing your amazing experience.
I’m looking at Marc’s website, the straps, I don’t see any references to length, just lug width.
Missing in you original measuring is where the buckle lands o. The underside of the wrist and how to measure that...likely easy with w thin piece of wire with w hook bent on the end.
You began to call this size short to long, but there should be an actual number here.
I ordered a Fluco buffalo strap and it's still loose on the last hole. I have to now return this and order the short strap. The struggle! Lol
Hi I’m planning on buying the seiko srpb41 off of your website, and I’m including a leather strap to come with it. Do you have the service of swapping the bracelet with the leather strap?
this channel is growing fast! keep up the good videos Marc!.
my SKX and Seiko 5 finally get here tomorrow that I ordered from you👍
Thanks so much, and enjoy!
Very helpful info!! Thank you for doing what you do :)
Thank you.
Do Seiko fat spring bars go through the Hirsch Liberty?
Thanks
The website doesn't let you sort based on strap size, nor do the descriptions even give you the dimensions....
Very informative. Thanks!
Which on wrist watch size depends?
Very well presented; thank you for sharing.
Thanks.
great video as usual. i have an 8 inch wrist so its a bit harder to find a strap for me.
Yes, you are at the point where XL takes over.
Does one not think that some straps have additional holes purely for style?
I have 5.2 inch wrists. I struggle to find watches that fit me properly, but I'm considering acquiring a seiko srp841. Though short straps are still too long for me. Any tips for me (for 16mm straps)?
I've got 9 1/4" wrists. Also I'm poor. Where can I buy a decent strap for my giant wrists? Hopefully $15 or less.
next time you get more of those gloves with your logo you should get it to orient the same as the logo shown on the screen it won't kill me but would be pleasing to my mind. ohh love your videos I've "watched" about 15 videos. Thanks Mark!
Thanks! We'll keep on making them.
Do you happen to remember what strap brand you had on the orient star you were modeling? And If you do is it available at your store? I really loved the color and would love to buy it. Thanks Mark!
Very helpful Marc, thanks!
Thanks.
Any short straps on the website Marc? I saw a nice Toscana in gator pattern but looking for a shorter strap if possible.
I have found bracelets don't mention the size wrist it fits. I have bracelets that only fit with certain watches.
In my case ALL straps are too small.
I went to your shop and I didn't see any Long or XL straps. I have an 8 1/2 inch wrist and normal straps are way to short.
Very informative as usual. Maybe you can do a video on Nato and Zulu straps. Love the idea and the feel of these straps but I hate that they are so long and you have to tuck the end piece in. I can't understand why they don't make them shorter so that they just fit like a normal watch strap.
Sure, thank you for the idea.
Good timing. I've been wanting to replace my watch bracelet and I don't know what size I should get. This video would help me get the right strap for my wrist.
Good timing! Perfect
Thank you, great video.
I have 6.1" (155mm) Wrist and now wears a 55mm lug to lug watch, so my ideal strap according to your video is 100mm.
so should i get a 100x60 mm strap?
I don't think you'll find anything so short. I think a medium/short might work.
Long Island Watch its fine, theres a strapmaker near me, they accept custom strap. do you think the 100x60mm is the ideal strap for me? thanks for reply :)
Long Island Watch would u say a 120/75 strap would fit me?, I have the same wrist size, 6.1". Watch has a lug size of 45mm
@@rizkilaksmana6111 found the answer ??
Thanks for your video! My wrist is about the same size as yours and thinking a short band of 110/70mm. My watch is about the same dimensions as yours also ( 46mm lug to lug ). Wouldn't a short band fit better? Thanks
Yes, a medium for you or me is better, but we can get by with the regular.
Thanks for the info and this series! Valuable information for sure. Any recommendations for a 21mm?
Hirsch Duke has some options.
Mark, could you sometime talk about flieger straps? Like the ones you sell from Laco. I have been looking for information about them but it's hard to find. Thank you.
Sure, will try; thank you.
I have a 50mm watch what band will fit it?
hi mark, i’m having trouble finding the Horween leather strap (top strap in second set of straps in video) on your website. could you please help me?
Dear Marc, you probably will get a customer if you can link the strap used for the Orient Star!
Thank your for sharing.
I just bought a very nice faux alligator strap with tubes and Panerai Pre V style buckle on Ebay for $12.99...very good quality even though it's from China
Very helpful, though the subject itself is pretty confusing! 😆
Do you recommend deployant buckles to preserve the straps?
Absolutely.
My aliexpress leather strap is too long? Should I just punch an extra hole into it?
Uhh of coarse. Why wouldn't you?
You are awesome as usual. Keep up
Thank you! As are you for watching!
Great Review - good info ----- "BELOW THE BONE" --- not on the bone! :)
Yes, dear God. Why do they wear it on the bone or above the bone? Why, God!?
Is 115mm, 75mm considered medium? I bought a leather strap with a clasp yesterday and it was alittle too big for my wrist. What a shame
You should go for smaller straps
I have a Fossil watch that the lugs measure 26mm. Do you have any 26mm stainless steel bracelets?
sorry, no.
I have small wristies and wished that the long part (120) would just come in a 100 or even 90. But can never find straps short like this nowhere ☹️
Vanessa Mercedes Holben's or B and R bands are a couple stores that carry short ones.
You might try The Watch Prince.
confused what & why you multiply the mm to .25 number? why .25?
very thorough!
Thank you.
thx for the info i need to purshase mesh band 22mm 190mm u have any idea if it will fit 8.5in wrist
Yes, you will likely need to shorten it a bit. While 8.5" is a big wrist, a 190mm bracelet is quite long.
Your math is off.. I bought a strap 120/80 size on my 7" wrist and is very large with so much length to spare..
Did your kid(s) made those bracelet that you always wear? cute!
Z.Darren Sort of. Each was given to me during an outing at different times. Thus I never take them off. A bit worse for the wear as they are, at this point, string molecules holding hands, but I'll keep them till they disintegrate.
Point of contention: I have seen just about every site say to measure over the bone, not in front of the bone.
You don't carry Nomos anymore then?
No, but you never know. : )
1. thank you
They really need to just give us 2 numbers. We should always set length at first hole and last hole.
I've never had a watch because, apparently, I have a 9inch wrist
Lol we measure wrist in inch but buy the straps in mm..😁
well it kind of makes sense.. people are getting fatter so everyone has to adjust the "normal/regular/medium" size. today a "medium" is a "long" in the past. it's exactly to be experienced in the clothing industry. if you have been wearing M in shirts and be in the optimal body weight and shape you have to buy S now. it's so stupid but the companies are saying that it's also a trick for the mind of the customer. Please stop wearing 2 watches 😢
