The dark hair is darling on you ❤Nothing like having your loved ones right there. I couldn’t imagine my husband being deployed, but I come from a military family so I know how that is. My dad almost missed my birth, but to his advantage I was 4 days late so he was able to make it. He retired when I was 9. This vlog was so wholesome!
I have seen some sourdough TH-camrs talk about a warming mat that they wrap around their starters - kind of like a heating pad.
So glad that you guys are together again!
I use a note system to remind me of things I know I have forgotten in the past, so the next time you put the sourdough starter in the oven, you stick a sticky note to the cupboard door above the oven that says "sourdough". when life is super busy with little ones it is incredibly easy to forget many things you absolutely think you will remember.
Good idea for me too.
I got a little sign (it is magnetic) that says “Starter in oven! DOUGH NOT TURN ON! Thank you :)”. It is so helpful to make sure I don’t preheat. I also never use all my starter. I always keep a little fed starter in the fridge in case something like this happens.

I've often proofed breads and doughs in my dishwasher... yes, my dishwasher! After emptying a freshly washed load onto the counter, while it's still warm inside, slip that sourdough batter inside and close it up. You can't ruin it because you have to open it to reload it with dirty dishes and dishwasher soap inside, and you'll SEE your dough before turning your dishwasher on again. It's one of my favorite places to prove my dough, comes out great every time. And you can set a timer to remind you to check if it's risen the amount you want. And you can use that proofing time to put away all the clean dishes you piled on the counter while still taking advantage of the residual warmth of the dishwasher.

Put your starter on your dryer while you do laundry. Cover with a towel. Works great. A heating pad works great too.

I also just baked my sourdough starter!!! I made a sign out of a paper plate that says PROOFING IN OVEN and I tape it over my oven controls now!

I just read where if you are feeding your starter in the right way it can be active even in cold houses in the winter! Oven + light is not recommended
you need a loaf magnet to put over your start oven button to remind you about your starter being in the oven! or a sticky note would work too!

Hi, Happy to see your hubby home. Regarding your sourdough starter, I have a bread group on Face Book and I'm basically a sourdough baker. When you put the starter in your oven, put a post it note over the controls so that you don't turn your oven on with the starter in it. This happens to so many and that's always my advice. I got a proofing box and it was money well spent! By the way, my husband was military for 29 years so I get you life style. Boys are adorable! Thanks for sharing!

Try putting your starter in the microwave and turning on the surface light. It should get warm.

Ok this maybe long 😂 first off Morgan was the reveal video? Nathan are you retiring or just getting out? Are you marines or navy since ik VirginiaBeach is a big navy base? And just general curiosity were you doing school classes? around here soldiers returning from duty go to Leavenworth for school.
