Raven was the best PG in this game for sure.
I'm not sure, quite honestly, if there are many better in the country if we count play on both sides of the ball. There are some PGs who might be slightly better offensively as far as scoring, but short of Ty Harris in her senior year, I've never seen Raven's equal in court vision and passing. Add that to her lock down defense (I loved when Carolyn Peck called her "the Hamburglar"), and she's right up there with the best in the country, and it's only her freshman year. Just incredible!!!

@@anthonytaylor7928 She shot the 3 fine in HS. She just needs more work. If you check the gamelogs, she'd been shooting the 3 at a 50% clip in her previous, like, 6? games or something like that. I think by her Jr. or Sr. year, she'll be hitting it regularly (well, 40% or so).

Once again you think a basketball player is measured only by shots made.
A PG has a lot more responsibility than just baskets made. They have to put the ball in the right players hands, manage the game, control tempo, etc. Not just score.
But, while you're calling out bricks, what about ya girl Zia the last 2 games? Brick city.
Her only responsibility is to score, but just like last year she disappears in certain games.
The reason Boston gets the attention from the media she gets is:
CONSISTENCY!
You never know which Zia will show up, particularly in the big games.

The real truth is that Geno in the last six recruiting cycles has not been getting the multiple higher ranked recruits that he used to get. This is largely in part because of parity in the game which is causing players to stay near home if they have a college that can compete. Case in point Aja Wilson,Diamond Deshields. Alisha Gray, Juju Watkins, Kaela Davis, C. Clark , PAC 12 players are now staying closer to home also.

Woman’s Basketball is far different then years past when only one game would be shown in except for the tournament making the best players only want to go to a Ucon or Tennessee for exposure. Now with technology and streaming platforms, NIL, Kids can be seen and benefit anywhere. Gone are the days of not being able to field 16 good teams and the tournament only having 29, 32, 36 or 40 teams. The player development and parity has made for a much better product

parity has caught up with UConn and we will see that in this year's tournament. I'm a Gamecocks fan but there are at least four teams that depending on how well they are playing can win the tournament.
Not only is Coach Staley an outstanding coach, but she can sing. I remember when she sang "We are the Champions" and it was awesome.

The only reason why UCONN even was able to keep it close was because of the refs calling BS calls on SC. If you even breathe on a UCONN player wrong the official called a foul. And to think Geno didn’t believe he got enough foul calls even though the calls went UCONN’s way.

Raven was outstanding today, and she's still in her freshman year. I daresay she's as good a passer as I've ever seen on a Gamecock team. She is, right now, where Ty Harris was in her Sr. year, and Raven's still got 3 years to grow. My buddy and I call her what Carolyn Peck called her during the ETSU game... the Hamburglar! She's fast become my favorite player on the team, and that's saying something considering the talent on Carolina!
Even with the referees trying to help them we still handle our business and LSU doesn’t stand a chance so please don’t bring that mess 😂😂😂.

The refs were fine. Looking forward to the LSU game. But nothing is guaranteed when you have a superstar player. I expect it to be a great game. 😊

@@jfrank6976 It may very well be. But point being it only takes one superstar to get hot and take a game. We probably have 1 superstar and quite a few stars. A player of the likes of Aliya Boston or Angel Resse don’t come across to often. With a superstar I take nothing for granted, like Kentucky beating us last year. But one thing I can say for sure is it’s a game not to be missed.

South Carolina vs LSU on Sunday afternoon next week is gonna be a 1 vs 2 matchup since Stanford lost today.
Nobody is beating South Carolina and this is the new dynasty in the sport and poor old Geno couldn’t stand that down the stretch he couldn’t control the emotions on the sidelines. UConn didn’t have Griffin last year and she played amazingly, and you don’t have your leading scorer last year in the championship game, and two great players in Grissett and Littleton. Ive been MIA all season and I’ve missed this channel. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say again. This is the most complete team I’ve seen from Sc since the 2019-2020 season. Zia has silenced majority of her “critics”, Brea is probably playing her best basketball as a senior especially when it comes to her shooting. Aliyah is the best player in the country and it’s not even up for debate and I believe she’s been the best since she was a FRESHMAN. of course we have to clean up the mental mistakes as usual, I don’t believe this should’ve been a close game considering the injuries to UConn. But I’ll never underestimate my opponent. I will say this tho. Raven should be the starting PG. i understand the ACL tear and Dawn doesn’t wanna put too much on her plate but she’s the better option for the starter. But I’m excited for the season and I literally can not wait until the LSU match up.

Kamilla was awesome. So were L.A., Brea, Zia,( especially on defense). and Breezy, they did not back down nor were they intimidated.. The whole team really played well. The rest of the team did not break either and handled themselves admirably and with class. We ttill have not seen S.C.'s A game.. But it is coming. It's coming ya'll!

sometimes its not always about scoring.. she held it down on defense forsure!
Zia will "pick-it-up" from this game forward, you can take that to the bank! AND that Lou Lopez S. fouled the crap out of Zia, put her shoulders down and charged right into Zia, but Geno says his poor girl was bruised so badly, what a joke!
One time after SC rebounded a UConn missed shot, Zia was on the baseline, everyone else had already headed down court but, either Dorka or Lopez held her (for a while) to keep her from getting down court, and Zia looked at the refs, gave them a 🤷♂️ but the just ignored it.
And it was no ticky rack either. She held on to her from behind, out of bounds.
She shot like ass but remained aggressive which is what she has to do. She can get hot at any time so she'll always be a threat. Plus, she knows if she misses she has rebounders. I'm glad Zia understands that she doesn't just have to make shots to be a factor.
Griffin is an elite athlete, you win some you lose some. If we depended on Zia like other teams depend on their stars they would have got it popping. Being so deep we can afford a game like that.

good game from both teams it is very difficult to rebound against boston and cardoso they practically took almost all the rebounds and they are very good offensively so it was already a very difficult game for uconn, lou lopez is a super star she is the best right now In my opinion, I felt her a little nervous but that's normal and she will adapt anyway, she played excellent, although obviously if she had been comfortable playing her game, taking her 3-pointers and scoring as she normally does, it would have been a different outcome, but it's ok, Lou has a huge potential and over time it will explode. griffin played very well really nothing to say just keep it up. Aaliyah Edwards at first I didn't know how important she could be for the team but with this game I understood it Edwards is probably the most valuable player uconn has right now and she really played like a champion today. it's simply indispensable everything that Edwards can offer to the team my respects to Edwards. and good game next time we will win. uconn is the best team. we are unstoppable💪💪

SC playing keep away instead of staying aggressive and attacking almost cost them the game. They also failed to box Edwards out of at the end. I hope they learn from this.

Great win for South Carolina pride of the gamecocks Aliyah Boston Boston showing again and she's one of the most the most dominant basketball player in college I'm very disappointed in the defense the worst defense they played this year if they don't do better than they did against Connecticut they will not be repeated as national champion the defense played like trash tonight cardoso like a dominant player she dominated like a six foot seven players supposed to dominate I wish you'd do that every game
I agree, I just have not seen that elite defense, including offensive rebounds, from Saxton this year. I think Coach has her focusing on offensive scoring instead . It's never too late, Victaria!!!!
That was not bad defense. Now, the officiating... that was bad. UCONN only attempted three 3's; they made two. The reason was because SC's defense was all over their shooters (in a good way). SC also held UCONN's assists to a very low number. They gave up some drives, but that's because they were playing to keep their shooters from getting good outside looks. SC is the best defense in the country, hands down.

Unbiased opinion here. Cooke Johnson guards for SC 6 for 27, 1 for 9 3’s. Griffin and Muhl for UCONN 9 for 16, 1 for 1 3’s. Assists, turnovers and Rebounds saved the game for SC.

For the game, South Carolina was called for 23 fouls, and UConn’s players were called for 21.
Nothing really one sided here. SC was actually called for more fouls than UConn, but SC shot more because you have to factor in the end of game intentional fouls that put SC on the line.
I said the same thing. The only reason UCONN was even in the game was because of the BS calls on SC by the refs and because the game was in Connecticut. Just look at how we beat them in the National Championship game last year on a neutral court and keep this in mind UCONN was at full strength with all their playmakers in that game and still got drugged. 😂😂😂

Where that water bottle come from? The referees had to call that because it’s hard to hide water bottle on to the court. Carolina played 8 on 5 all night long, call it both ways. They made up for it by calling “T” on Kamala Cardozo to give UConn possible 9 points without the clock moving but wait they stopped the clock at the closing minutes of 2nd and 4th periods to give UConn the rest they needed. Robbie thanks for the game and good job, the referees called touch fouls on Carolina no football tackling fouls on UConn, no wonder it’s almost impossible to with up there, next time get referees that call it fair. Geno threw it himself and got a technical. He was seeing his player get held and refs weren't calling it so he got mad. I think refs were missing a lot of calls on both ends of the court.
It's his darn fault if he doesn't play his bench heck I seen a few extras on the bench perfect example he waits til Edwards senior season to showcase her that young lady is awesome he could have played her more as a underclassmen who knows where they could have been
Geno and the media cannot cry about not having enough quality bench players when anyone he recruits is a high school all-American. Case in point the 6”5” amari deberry was a top 30 recruit in his program 2 years. His bench transferred out in McLean and Sara P. who plays at Arkansas.

all Geno did in his post game interview was complain about the refs.

He could’ve opened up his offense if he actually taught Bettencourt while actively playing with the upper class. He just watched Ayanna Patterson get steam rolled and was making excuses all night. His style of coaching is antiquated and if it’s not SC, it’s going to be another team beating him routinely.
@@areina1513 , I was about to mention the same thing. Women's basketball has changed over the 5 or 6 years and it has gotten more physical. The WNBA is the same way and Staley has talked about that in some of her interviews. While I agree there were called missed on both sides of the ball, at the end of the day the refs control the game and you have to adjust to the set of refs on the floor. Some call it tight and some not as much. I have re-watched this game 3 times and I still do not see exactly what happened for Geno to get some worked up over. The technical happened right after a time-out so it does beg to question was it on purpose. I have heard of coaches doing that to get their players fired up.
My thought exactly when it happened. Only seconds after the timeout so it seemed staged, and deliberately done to get his players hyped, and, or to get the refs to start calling in his favor.

Why in exchange for Zia, not following. Raven runs the point and Zia is at the 2 spot. Different positions. Plus Raven runs the 2nd unit so well and uptempo which I believe Dawn wants as well as she brings the best out of Cardoso from their previous years playing together.

Cardoso was a difference in the game, but my favorite play was when Cardoso missed an easy lay up at the end of the 1st Quarter, UConn boards it and goes to the other end and Lopez Senechal banked in a long 3pt shot and Cardoso was right there mouth to take it out of the net. South Carolina is tremendous but you have to board it when they miss.
Did YOU know that Muhl leads the UConn team in turnovers? Muhl, 80 total to date, UConn has turned the ball over 397 times, South Carolina just 298. Rebounds for UConn, 981, South Carolina 1,160. So PLEASE don't say a thing about Kamilla Cardoso or ANY of the 2022 National Championship team!
