True, when I block someone in a server I'm active in or don't want to leave I always click on the little "1 blocked message" button in chat so there is basically no point in blocking them if i don't want to see their messages
this would be very useful, not seeing like 20 lines of "1 blocked message" would be useful but one thing i see as a concern is that people would look completely schizophrenic talking to literally nobody a suggestion i have is 3 options: current (X blocked messages with a show button) half-hidden (tiny icon/line in-between messages so you only acknowledge that the conversation is with a blocked user, no enticing show button) fully hidden (literally nothing, no message or anything shows up)

Because if you block someone on Twitter, that person can't see your tweets, can't respond to your tweets, can't dm you and can't even display anything on your profile, I think that not even your profile picture shows up for them, your cover photo, not even your bio, or I guess that does show up, but for sure handle and display name will display. But other than that? Just an error message saying that they can't follow you or read your tweets, because you've blocked them. Super useful against creeps and weidos, and it's super annoying to deal with from the other side (which happened to me couple of times, so I know).

As someone who’s in her mid 20s and has been able to adapt to most other social platforms fairly well, I have to say that Discord has the least intuitive and most confusing setup out of any of them. Everytime I tried to use it for a group gaming call, I would be taught a new thing I didn’t know I could do ALL WHILE being shamed for not knowing how to do it yet.
I wish you could block someone without needing to share servers/be friended with them first that way if you move accounts you can block them without having to get in contact with them again first. Also, making your username/identifying features or whole profile disappear for the blockee would be helpful for safety

this happened to me when I was just 15.... got talked into sending pics I didn't want to but back then I literally couldn't say no. the person deleted all their side, saved the pics, then acted like their account got deleted. it did not. it's still around and changing to this day, I check my block list every often to see. I then blocked the creep, then, was kindly told by a friend from the *Roblox* server we admined together, that he leaked all of the pics. I had left the server so didn't know. I was told they were deleted right away and he was kicked, but sure, I believe that. to this day I fear they'll resurface somewhere or my gf will somehow find them since he made me take one with my face ((((: I am 20 now and still scared. I just try to make myself feel better by saying it would be considered not legal bc of my age and anyone sharing that could get in trouble from it, and the dude himself got scared by me making the messenger friend tell him such.

Right, that's neat, but if we're talking safety i think you should make it clear when a friend request has been rejected. If a person doesn't know know that their presence is not wanted (because they'll be pending forever), they might keep trying to get in touch or persistently canceling and resending friend requests which could be unintentionally upsetting for the other person (happened to me). And you already have the block function working like it does being obscure about denied friend requests isn't really a safety feature. It doesn't need a notification. You could just make them disappear after a while.
Can there be an optional setting to shadow-block someone? Basically, it looks like everything is normal for the blockee, but you won't hear them. They can still react to your messages and others can still see the reactions, but you can't. Or you can let us decide how people getting blocked works for us, that way we can personalize the block effect to either be obvious, silent, and a couple of other behaviors.
Yo that’s cool and all but what I really need is not just for a those messages to be hidden, but also deleted, bc sometimes they are inappropriate or sensitive. Or what would be even better would be to have a “delete this message for me” button so that you can delete messages for yourself but not anyone else
Omg. The weird thing that pops up when the blocked person talks is really obnoxious tho. If they’re having a conversation with someone else and I want to see what’s happening, I have to manually click every message sent by them and it gets so annoying that I just un-block them. I’ve resorted to just never interacting with them and hoping they don’t interact with me.

They will know they're blocked if they suddenly can't send messages after spamming, you should make it so it sends the messages but only for the blocked person (also if they react to a message from the blocker, it wont let them and they'll know they're blocked)
From what I have learned from using discord for 8 years now is that not a single individual uses its features properly or if at all and it shows. Some twit doesn't like you in a vc? Instead of muting you or leaving the channel, they will complain about how *your* the annoying one or there *"reason"* for not muting is that *"They don't want to hear 1/2 of a conversation"*
i think they should text it as something else because then they think they have unfriended them because when i first got blocked i thought the person unfriended me
A nice person I met on a discord server about one game blocked me for no reason and I'm sad about that because I think we had a friendly relationship and that person is actually one of the best and most active people on the server. They know a lot of stuff I'd like to know about that game but now I can't DM them :(
one downside to the fact with the error message if someone you really care about blocked you you won't know, and if you read between the lines it hurts even more (speaking from experience)

a suggestion i have is 3 options:
