Não só me inscrevo como recomendo pra todos os fãs de Blind Guardian que como eu, sentiram sua falta na banda desde sua saída!Foram quase 10 anos no anonimato.Vida longa ao grande Thomas Stauch! Sou um grande fã \m/
This is the closest we will ever get to see this song performed post album. This is also Thomen's greatest arrangement (ANATO). Given than none of the band members will ever dare to play this live nor celebrate this song, an enormous song to Thomen. Tremendous and powerful.
One of the most powerful and still melodic songs in BG's discography. And no drummer could ever perform it like you actually do, Thomen. Merry Christmas to you and to your family, Maestro!
This album and especially this song were one of the reasons I became such a huge metal fan when I was a kid. Time has passed but this song and the album are still something very special - personally and objectively ❤️
Awesome song choice! This has to be the most underrated BG song ever! I like this just as much as Mirror Mirror! Not sure why this one doesn’t get more love??? One of my favorite songs of all time!
Great memories, back in the very early 2000s got into Nightfall, i was already listening to extreme drummers and the great pioneers from that era, but i remember being extremely fascinated by the power, fills and melodic content of your drumming. You're a legend and a huge part of what made Blind Guardian magical back then.
This album came out in 1998, the same year I started to learn how to play drums. This is my favorite song, and Thomen is one of my greatest influences. Being able to play through this song was a breakthrough in my drumming studies. Thank you so much for this video, for this channel. Thank you for being part of my life with Blind Guardian. I love you, man. Thank you very much!
Thank you soooo much for your incredibly kind words, dear Zoio! I'm really happy and it leaves me sitting proud here, to read all these kind comments! You rock!❤❤❤🤘🤘
Jesus Christ, dude. One of the most bad ass drummers of all time, as far as I'm concerned. I think people tend to remember or think of Hansi's voice or the excellent guitar work when they think of Blind Guardian. But it needs to be said that Thomen's drumming was on point as all hell, also. Especially in this song. Absolutely dynamic.
The only thing more pleasing than watching an awesome drum performance of one of the most mind-blowing power metal songs ever made (the drumming being a significant part of the reason why), is reading that drummer's awesome replies in the comments. To Thomen, I'd be honored to have a beer and geek out over music with you, man! Prost!!
Wow! Thank you so much, dear friend! 😊🤗 Really kind words...and yeah, i like to stay in touch with my loyal supporters and fans! They really deserve it! ❤🤘 Big hugs and cheers, Thomen
Thomen, I was 13 when I bought Nightfall in Middle Earth and I remember how impressed I was by how musical and tasteful the drumming was, I never heard anything like that before. My dad was 100% sure there were two drummers in the band :) To this day one of my top 10 albums. It's so cool to be able to tell you this thanks to the internet!
I watch this record again and again, not joking I've watched it many hundred times I suppose! Especially the attack at the end the song is incredible! Thomen, You are NUMBER ONE! 🤘
The drumwork in this song is part of my musical core memory. What an absolute beast of a drummer. The heart of this song. An amazing work on the album as well! I just discovered your channel just now (damn algorithm) and I'm so happy right now!
Thomen, I took you as a reference for power metal drumming since the first time I heard Blind Guardian. You were perfect on the album this song belongs (and others too, for that matter). I got late at the party, as I just fould this place where you have your videos on youtube now. Really glad to see you here. This music is the goal for me when I talk about double bass on drums. Six notes per bar at above 180 bpm is not for everyone! When I get to this, I can finally say I can play double bass! Thanks!
Everything is just good. The song starts with bass-drum and crash right on the open strokes of the guitar, filling the palm-muted fast guitar strokes with toms toms. Perfectly supporting the riff. Then: Explosion! Fast drive forward. Then: Super cool release into the chorus, flying over a carpet of double base with 3/4 (if I hear that right) instead of straight 4/4, and above the beat little breakups and interesting pattern shifts on the cymbals are placed, that change from a vibe of "against the flow", back to "with the flow". Those little details, I love them. Then at 3:17 it all says: Stop listener, take a quick breath, prepare! As it all breaks down, kicking the hearer out of the flow, with the guitar giving rythm, after which the melodie goes high up and the rythm guitar puts a standing open chord, where the cymbals carry the open chord into a big wideness. The lick is repeated and then: BOOM, back into the speed-metal part driving you forward. Then at 3:33... KICK+CRASH x3, STOP, guitar takes all the space, and then drums come back but with only the bass-drum on the beat while the hi-hat is slowly "growing" into the lick, building up the pressure, however, just to let you fall down back into a frigging MARCHING drum, totally changing the mood for some kind of interludium. This is the dynamics I miss. This is the journey the drums told me when I listened to albums with Thomen The Omen on them. I miss it. It never got boring with you on the drums. You don't do that much different things, some people say. And yes, it is true. But where you place your ideas on the song-structure, THAT is what makes your drumming different and unique. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Wowww..how you analyzed my drumming here is quite impressive, my friend! Incredible kind words from you! Thank you soooo much for this! 🤗🤗🤘🤘 And....yes...it's true, i was never the drummer that wanted to shimmer by my technical performance, because my main focus in my rhythm patterns is and will always be on the songs, since this is what primary counts while creating music. I always try to support rhythmically what I hear in a song and then try to even make that guitar pattern more interesting without interrupting the vocals, which should always have the main focus of the listener, if possible anyhow. Merry Christmas, my dear! You rock! 😊🤘🤘❤
Danke, Mann.
Easily one of the most underrated and under-appreciated songs in all of Blind Guardian's catalogue!! And proof that age is a number and nothing more - you kick dust in the eyes of drummers 20 years your junior! Best greetings from South Africa!
Also love this one!! Thank you for uploading Thomen! Do you plan to make video for "Time stands still", "Somewhere far beyond", "Time what is time" and so on...? I would love to watch the fastest songs. Thanks! Cheers!
Another great choice and an awesome performance. I like you advising us not to drink and smoke too much :) You’re a beautiful soul Thomen. Have a merry Christmas! 😊
OMFG!!! One of my absolutely favorite songs from my favorite album. I have always adored the drumming on this one, and you're absolutely still fucking smashing it. Thomen Stauch Drum God forever. Merry xmas and happiest new year! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
How to not agree with the intro of the video. This song is a fucking masterpiece. And as a drummer the transition from pre-chorus to chorus other than being wonderful is really hard to do tightly. Thank you for the content Thomen. Merry Christmas!!!
Yes. Hell Yes. That's the thing with Thomen (and the other guys in BG too, to be fair): They are always ON. They pull all those tasty shenannigans without them being overly show-off. They are built into the song in such a tasteful way that the song would actually fall apart if it weren't there. It sounds like it belongs. It sounds natural... until you actually focus on it and go: wait... how did he do that again? There is just so much going on.
Wow! I didn't expect I would enjoy this so much! I never paid much attention to the drums, and seeing this brought out all kinds of awesome details I never noticed in this song.
I love this song for so many reasons. Not only is it about my favorite story from my favorite author, it's played by my favorite band as well. So it's not hard to call this my most favorite song ever. The speed and style of it all really depict a character in pain and anxiety. And when he sings "I feel like screaming" you drum as if a marching beat for him to muster his courage against fate and doom. At least that's how I interpret it. Either way, an amazing performance and thank you so much for sharing it. As beautiful and metal as can be 🤘
Epic song, i love this song and the full Nightfall in Middle Earth album, i miss you in Blind Guardian, the performance is the same than the studio version. Thanks so much Stauch and Merry Christmas!!!
Awesome. One of the most energetic songs on one of my favorite BG albums. That's one Christmas tread. Can't count the times I sat in my car, blasting it at full volume, shouting (calling that singing would be a a bit too much praise to my voice) along while driving home from a stressful day at work. Danke Thomsen und ein besinnliches und vergnügliches Fest.
Wooooowwwwwww finally I got the chance to see this!!! Greatly done Thomen !!! I remember trying to figure out the notes listening to this album back in 2002 and so many parts you play here left me with my jaw in the ground!!!! To see all of that being played now by you with all the energy is great... I will probably watch this video again 2564836193 times... LOL !!!!

I've been waiting for something really kickass from you, and the song I was thinking about probably the most was this one, so I'm thrilled! you really did extraordinary in this one, everything about the song itself and your performance is absolutely and unquestionably incredible. there's one particular moment that gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, though. it's that one fill, simple in itself, two groups of three notes on toms and then the snare, the one right before "the world shall hear this sad song" line, and it's like a booster for the following fast beat that shoots out afterwards..man, so tastefuly done, so powerful, but yet so deeply emotional and touching moment of the song... I learnt a lot from you, even though we never met, and things like those you can't just mechanically learn from a drum tutorial, instead you need to hear it, and feel it, and then you know how it's done the way it should be done
Wooowwww my dear friend! What wonderful, kind words! Love to read this! Makes me proud to read all this! Probably I did some things good in my life. 😊 A big hug and Merry Christmas, dear friend!
@@ThomenDrumChamber oh, no no, thank YOU for all your input that just can't be denied. btw, is there any chance you shoot a little video or maybe some other way to tell anything about the gear you used while recording NIME? As a drummer and blind guardian fan these videos are a treat. Those classic Thomen moves man !
2:57 he adjusted the hi-hat while playing that really fast and complex part without missing a beat. What an absolute beast.
Thanks for all! 🙏🏼
i'm a simple man, i see Thomen i press LIKE
