Hi Blackie, I bought the Exotac lighter almost 2 years ago. I filled it and put it in my bugout bag. I just checked it about a week ago and it still sparks a flame! amazing lighter. I also love my Zippo lighter. But if you want something that will hold fuel for a very long time, or for emergencies this is definitely it!
Depending on how much you use it, you could most likely do a one year report with the same results :) I also overfilled mine over a year ago and never really had to refill it. I recently added some fluid to it before an outing just to make sure it was serviceable but when I opened the port, the batting was still moist with fluid. I have used it sparingly but it has been lit many many times. I remember showing it to people at Frozen foot last year and as of today, it will still light. I wholeheartedly recommend the Titanlight from Exotac.
thanks brother..as a bit of survival kit its great for our haversacks..i carry a bic as well..but knowing the titianlight is gonna be there and ready no matter what is piece of mind
As best I can tell the O ring under the main cap is a #36. I'm going to see if I can find a oil resistant version. Petroleum Jelly dissolves standard ones and weakens them over time. Checking the Exotac wick vs standard Zippo wick too. Reason I bring this up is you will die waiting on replacement from Exotac😂😂
I got one in one of the sales. I got at least 6 months on a fill like you. Excellent advice about letting the fuel dissipate before lighting, mine bit me when I forgot to do that.
Thanks for this review, I've been lusting after one of those but haven't found much about them. Outstanding. I'll be picking one up and teaming it up with my Bic.

I just snagged one for $43 with free shipping from a place called Knife Country I think it was. Anyway, recently I also picked up one of the new Zippo butane inserts and one of their arc lighter inserts and put them in a couple old vintage cases. They seem to work and fit very well. Price is right, too.
My biggest problem with zippo lighters (I smoke a pipe and use mine every day) is the flint. It never fails when you forget about it and when you need it most you get one strike and the flint is gone. Is there a place to store spare flints on this lighter?
i learned from my grandfather this trick..he had a old zippo type..that was no good..so he tore it apart and kept the flint tube and spring set..he clipped off the spring and filled the tube full of flints..then screwed the cap back on the inside of his zippo on the far side he pressed the full tube into the cotton..now he had a yrs supply of flints on board
O-rings are used everywhere in many different applications, and are typically very easy to find. I would simply remove it once new, measure it, record the measurements and order replacements. I do that for most everything I buy that has o-rings.
@@brawldawg8729 I just ordered one. Will do a full review once I test it in the Canadian rockies. Ill be sure to include the replacement part specs. Cheers!
The O ring is a #35. I use white can white gas off brand Coleman fuel. Works fine. Doesn't explode. I did exactly the same thing. Over filled it until.a single drop fell off the wick. Every time I used it, I turn it upside down, open it, if there's fuel in there, put it back in, WIPE off the lighter and hit it. Uses Zippo flints. Get an extra wick or two. A Zippo wick won't fit. I haven't tested an IMCO wick with a wire lead or anything else yet.
Or you could just buy a Bic for a fraction of this one price and it would perform just as well and even better. Nothing leaks from Bic and it doesn't need an o-ring for that.
In essence the EXOTAC lighter is just an aluminum match safe which are sold online for $9.99 with some cotton and a spark wheel in it. Probably a great piece of gear but in my opinion,,,,overpriced.
Your must assign the same value to your time as I to your opinion: none. After you spent 3 hrs turning that match safe into a lighter, what's it worth then?
Cute thought. How much is your life worth when you're in hypothermia?....light a match once...gone. Even Titan matches. Bics break or leak if not protected. Fire sleeves are great, but butane fails in very cold environs...Zippo makes a living off fluid and flints. Exotac even sells a sparker that is pretty much what you're describing only smaller. There's more to think about than money when you're freezing to death. Its another back up to the back up to the backup.
@@tikkidaddy Get a ferrocerium rod, works in any weather wet or cold if you want a backup carry 2 if you want a backup to a backup carry 3 oh, and learn how to use it correctly. A small dab of SuperLube O ring grease helps preserve O rings. Zippo and Ronson brand Lighter Fluid is $70 a gallon. 90 drops fills a Zippo insert . that's 3 fluid ounces per fill. Its good money not to let $70 evaporate to nothing😂

Compared to the 2-3 days in hot weather to a week at the best in my old zippo, that kind of endurance is definitely WORTH IT.

#35 not 36
Blackie, thank you for your long term review of this lighter.
I’ve been on the fence on getting one of these lighters since they can out. Great follow up review. Thanks for sharing.
Good timing. I was just getting ready to order one for a hiking trip I have coming up in March. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Thank you Blackie! I love my exotac! ATB Sam Adler
I Fully agree with you, I have one for over a year and never fail on me. Just a tip, I store a spare flint in the bottom 😉👍👍👍
me to..safe journeys
Looks like a worthwhile investment. Thank you for the review.
Apparently,I need one of those.like the last time you showed $130 mora,I got one.I'll be getting a new lighter soon.my wife doesn't like you.😉
Neither does mine lol 😂
my regrets to the lady of the house..lol

Exotac seems to put out very good quality gear

I've been EDC a similar lighter for well over a year now made by maratac and I've had basically the same good results with it.
Good review brother. Thanks.
Looks interesting lighter, cheers for the review.
Awesome
Can you use Zippo size flints and wicks or do you have to buy special Exotac ones?
Good enough for me 👍🏻
Nice
Amazon has them for $150 and $50. I think the $150 price is a mistake, didn't see it on the Exotac web site.

Kevin Blanchard I smoke pipe either And always store a spare flint on the bottom under the cotton pad. I do the same with my exotac.

For the sake of that o-ring, use just a little petroleum jelly on it to keep it from getting dry and it will last for years.
IPUT AN O RING IN MY ZIPPO DOES THE SAME THING BROTHER
I like zippo lighters. It only took one time to learn not to over fill it and put it in your pants pocket.
thats the beauty of this one it stays sealed..and i know what ya mean i got a good blister once a long time ago
