I'm old enough to remember when Bobby Picket performed this on the Ed Sullivan show (black and white TV days). Geoff and Voiceplay always pay homage to the original, but it's always his/their own. You will love Thriller, and they did Be Prepared before that......
This particular video took Geoff longer than usual to record- because he had to do it *twice*. The first day, he had their (his and VoicePlay's) usual makeup artist do the monster makeup (and Kathy's- his real, and video, wife), as well as having a somewhat different, tighter, greyer set. But when he got home and looked at the footage, Geoff felt as though he'd accidentally filmed a horror video instead of the fun one he'd planned. So he did it again the next day, with a more colorful set, although Rick Underwood was not available that day for makeup. His corpse bride, Kathy (who looked "too dead" in the first video) did his makeup for this one. He shared clips from the original video on his Patreon, and he definitely made the right choice- this is a much better vehicle for such a fun, silly song.
If i recall correctly then the "dancers" where filmed in a different framerate similar to early movies like Nosferatu. Their poses are also nods to the Iconic Horror movie monsters ;-) Also if you have a sharp eye you can see Kathy twitch when Geoff hits those really low notes.
The "bride" wasn't part of the original but a little added joke , the Bride is Geoff's wife Kathy, they worked together as Frankenstein's monster and the Bride at Universal Studios in The Beetlejuice Rock and Roll Graveyard Review. Great reaction.
Monster Mash dance represents the old horror movie standard monsters. First position, arms held out in front - FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER Second position arms held down at the side and crouched back - THE WOLFMAN Third position - arm held bent in front of the face - DRACULA Last position - arms wrapped around body - THE MUMMY Each dance move adds a bit every time it is repeated.
You may have also recognized a bit of Fur Elise playing on a detuned piano at the end. But if you listen carefully to the “la, la, la”s in the opening and about 2/3s through, you can also pick out Tocatta and Fugue in D minor sung with a bit of 1920s style swing.
She was Kathy Castellucci, his wife, production manager and costumer. The wild dance moves were to represent the different monsters (Frankenstein's monster, the Wolfman, Dracula and the mummy) and were filmed at a different speed and then synced to the music.
The dance moves was choreographed by Bucky, a former member of 4:2:Five (Voiceplay) and the Drunken Sailor in that video. Each move represents a famous movie monster. The complexity rises for each iteration. From left to right we have Kathy on the sofa, Victor von Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman and either Igor or Frankenstein's Monster (unnamed by Mary Shelley in the original novel). Probably Igor with the reference to the chains in the lyrics.
That would be Frankenstein's Monster. Although not named by the Dr., he later named himself, Adam. He became enraged and violent (hence the chains, as the Dr. tried to keep him with him - and then he ran away) when the Dr. wouldn't make him a wife, who he would have called Eve.
This was the first TH-cam music I'd ever heard but when the little window popped up with Monster Mash from 3 yrs ago. Then I found Geoff's group VoicePlay doing Hoist the Colours. Now I reside in this incredible rabbit hole listening to Geoff and company do fantastic work. If you haven't seen VPs Classical Chaos which is the second classical music video with trolls and all, it is fabulous.
Thank you for this one, yes it's one of this best I think, if you look closely at Kathy at 2:16 or so you'll see her left leg move because of how deep to the depths Geoff is going. Also, the jerky movements of the backup dancers is because he had been dancing to the music at half speed so it would appear such when it was replayed in the full version.
In some of his more recent performances each of his clones has taken on not only a personality, but a name. Jeff, Goff, Jeoph and Darryl. Darryl often sings lower than Geoff.
Very fun to watch with you. What an enjoyable version on Monster Mash. Looking forward to joining you on other Geoff and VP reactions. Try one of VPs classical music compositions like "Hall of the Mountain King" or "Classical Chaos." You will get to meet the Grundels and have a blast.
""Main Titles (From "Beetlejuice" Soundtrack)"" long list to choose one's. Song clips should be from the movie itself need to load or link from YT though. Hard job to do. th-cam.com/video/LY7uNKz24gA/w-d-xo.html

Kathy has a cameo in VoicePlay's most recent release, "Thriller," too(see the video description credits)
I missed it on TV, but I had the 45. (Remember those?👵🏼

Don't worry. Your bangs are banging! The Elvira replacement look is coming along but you only have a week left.

As I understand, they were filmed dancing slowly, and sped up for the video.

In Orlando Florida. They married when the show ended.
In June they celebrated their 17th anniversary.

Ooh, cool! Thanks! I had picked up on some of those, but not the wolfman or the additions
@@AmericansLearnMy favorite moment is when the Wolfman realized that his hips could move.

oh, awesome! Thanks for telling me!

You should totally check out Voiceplay's cover of "Thriller" and "Be Prepared"!!
Voice play just did a cover of thriller you would like they did a good job of paying tribute to Michael Jackson while making it their own
Guest appearance by Geoff's wife Kathy. They did this by themselves.
And don't worry, hardly anyone notices Kathy here before she screams - I know I didn't!
If you want to hear more of his range and ability to harmonize with himself, try I See Fire and Durin's Song.
🎉🎉🎉 I'm so happy you are reacting to this video this was my next request for you to watch
The background Geoffs were dressed to be Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein's monster.

The original was “when you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you.” That’s presumably a reference to Boris Karloff.
Good morning beautiful great to see you again

Have admit ... I DO like "Spooky-Lauren" ^^

The three backups are Drac, Wolfman, and Igor.
If you haven’t already, you should check out Geoff’s cover of Headless Horseman.

The original is much better
Bummer, not even close to the original.
Not as good as the original.
Okay.
Way better than the original. Loved it!
I'm pretty sure that we all enjoy watching Wolfman's (center) hips. 🫠
