Nick Conley, the lead designer of Ashes Reborn and the Red Rains cycle in particular has stated that there are plans to have 7 total Chimera released for this cycle. One Chimera for each die type. This is amazing news as at the beginning of development for the cycle only 3 were for sure. Based on the positive response for the game mode, Plaid Hat, made the decision to go ahead and produce a chimera for all 7 magic types. Also, Red Rains is built up into the TTS mod for Ashes so if you wanted to play Co-Op with someone online you are able to do so.
Thanks, my copy of Frostwild Scourge is shipping and should arrive tomorrow, exactly how I feel about these Red Rains packs. I have 14 PB and don't get to play them competitively but I can play any combos or individuals against any Chimera, even mixing their aspects and have been having a blast . There are cards to replace pre-constructed decks cards not as useful in co-op/solo mode and a campaign option using any precon Phoenixborn, not limiting you to the ones included in the expansions or those new generic decks. The value is off the scale in terms of challenge, fun and money. I am using jaysonsethlindley's Abominable Adventure The Red Rains Campaign Guide for Ashes Reborn which is a guide on using and deckbuilding PB's with Red Rains.
I have my upgrade pack + Frostwild Scourge + Corpse of Varos on the way. Ashes is easily my favorite game and have high hopes for this expansion. Even competitively I always had fun trying to figure out my turns and hope coop feels good to. The variety of cards with just the core set in Ashes is amazing and with expansions it has always been better. My biggest concern is... the game was meant for PvP so a lot of cards are probably going to be bad / weak. Curious how it will end up.
I tried Ashes PvP once when it first came out and was interested, but don’t enjoy competitive games as much as cooperative ones. I definitely felt the brain burn! I recently picked up the master set and Corpse of Viros and my son and I have been having a blast. We’ll be picking up this one too for sure, and hopefully subscribing to Team Covenant for the new content.
"Ember Heart" is such a Badass Ally, i need this Expansion!!! Ashes has really the most beautifull and Badass Cards for my taste. Just Started with Ashes on Christmas and cant get enough of it.
How much diffirent is it playing against Frostwild Scourge compared to Viros? Are you driven to build decks any differently to cope with it? How is the pace of fighting? I found that rounds went so fast with Viros it kind of forces you into the fastest strategies. It seldom made sense to use alterations on enemies instead of killing them asap because if they are alive by round's end that will cause red tokens to build and if you trigger the ultimate it will just wash away those cards anyway.
First of all, thank you Roy for covering Ashes Reborn ! With that out of the way, I must admit that I am a bit confused. Don't we already have those Phoenixborn as separate expansions ? Does that mean that if I own them all, then half of Frostwild Scourge is useless to me ?
Yes, the Phoenixborn have all been released either with the master set or expansions. The Phoenixborn themselves are the same (but with different flavor text I think), but they come with new signature cards. When you play them you can use any combination of up to 3 of their signature cards, new or old. They’re nice for people who don’t already have those Phoenixborn, but there’s still something new for players that already have them. The new Phoenixborn are also way less than half of the expansion, you still have the new player deck and the new Chimera and aspects.
@@Birdman566 Well, that's unfortunate. It would have been better if they were all new, but at least they have new signature cards so it's ok I guess. Thanks for the info !
@@moxanthia2902 Oh, I misunderstood what that meant. That's fine then but I insist that it would have been better without repeats. Or offer alternate art ! That would also be cool, even if the Phoenixborn were the same. I would love having different versions. Anyway, I am really happy they have decided to do these co-op expansions ! It offers a nice new way to play, even with people that didn't want to previously because of the game's competitive head to head nature. Keep them coming !
I think they're basically there so that if you just bought Red Rains (and none of the other products except some dice I suppose) you can still play it. Technically you don't have to buy any of the Phoenixborn to play the game cooperatively.
I don’t quite get all the cards in this set. Aradel isnin the base game and that’s exactly the same card than with 1.0. Rejuvenate is new. Rin card and Ice Buff cards are also same than in 1.0.

Cool!
That’s seems like way too much content for the solo version… are they ever going release new phoenixborn that are not being rehashed/updated? :(
@@matthewholland2816 (You can also play it together against the game.)

Mentioning how it compares to other games is very helpful

The status effects lots of stun waaaaa!

The precon is also entirely new, so it's only 4 repeat cards in the whole pack.
