- As part of my graduation, I had the opportunity to arrange and conduct the song Copacabana for this great ensemble of fellow students. We only got three rehearsals of 45 minutes and this is the result of working together and having lots of fun! Lead vocalist: Job Uitgeest.
I graduated my Bachelor of Music Education at the Utrechts Conservatory, a school of the arts based in The Netherlands.

I am so glad that we can share our passion for music through this medium. Performing this song made me feel so connected with all people on stage and I am very thankful for this experience. I never expected this many views and comments, but reading your positive remarks and personal memories of this song warms my heart!
I also got some cynical comments that suggested me and/or the orchestra didn't perform this perfectly. But to you I want to say: I didn’t strive for perfection. That would be simply impossible, given our little rehearsal time and my lack of experience. And why should everything we do be perfect anyways? ;-)
I nowhere claim to be a professional conductor, nor do I claim that this was supposed to be a perfect replica of Mr. Barry Manilow’s song. For me, that wasn't the goal here. My goal was to connect with my fellow students through music, to have fun and enjoy this piece together. And I am proud to say: that mission’s accomplished!
And to you guys that leave insults in any way, shape or form about my fellow musicians: I will immediately delete your comments.

I must say all is so perfect, given the limited time of preparation and the large group of participants involved in only a few rehearsals, you and all your fellows have achieved the highest goal and you and your group have unlimited talents in all aspects. I am not a professional musician but I play various roles in music groups and I fully understand how difficult it is to lead so large a group, (as a matter of fact, you lead various groups here) and how painstaking it is to make them synchrozise with one another. Your chorus is amazingly impressive, all giving their hearts to sing; your band is like professional performers; the singer is giving his best and you, leading them through gracefully and joyfully. I give my heart and thanks to all of you: never have I seen so many performers, particularly amateurs, giving a piece of music so beautifully and thus I said in my last comment:" just beautiful". (Forget about adverse comments; probably they derive from jealousy. No hard feeling to anyone.)

That drum dude is just vibing the whole time, and I'm all for it.
The singer is fantastic as well. He captures just the right kind of voice for this piece without turning it into mockery. He's sheer class. The whole orchestra is world class. A very well-balanced arrangement all around. I was about 4 or 5 when this song was a hit in the U.S., hearing it on the car stereo as my parents drove me around Los Angeles. Barry Manilow was absolutely huge then. He could sell out coliseums.

Yeah, the singing was great, conducting was it should be. The issue I have with this version is mainly the groove, it's just not that good, it probably had some limited options like some more exotic instruments, more players that have experience and just better percussion arrangement. So yeah, this is good and great effort, but for sure Naohiro Iwai's band version is better, but again, that version is a materpiece so let's not criticize people for not being Beethoven or in this case Naohiro Iwai ;)

When I was at the Univ. of Tennessee (a hundred years ago) I had the life lasting memory of singing with the Men's Glee Club for three years. If I may say so, we were good. We were asked to join the UT Chorale as a side bar adjunct to multiple entertainment engagements. We were 45 strong and in fact were invited to sing in selected venues in Europe. As I watch this video, I think of that experience and relish for these young people what this monment will mean to them as the years go on. Just ABSOLUTELY wonderful Emma and congratulations to all those wonderful musicians in your in ensemble. Fabulous work!!!

Hello, I happened to listen to this song in Korea and I've been listening to this song from time to time.

I just keep watching and sending to my old musician friends. I am so impressed I cry at the the innocents of these young kids who weren't even born singing such a true story. It reminds me of all the bands I put together back in the late 70's while I was in the plumbing apprenticeship going to night school twice a week after work from 6-9:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for five years. Every night in between after work was calling any musician friends to come to the jam rooms I built and forming bands. We played on the Red and White Fleet in San Francisco Bay at nighttime cruising under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges with the whole Bay area lit up and parties and weddings in Silicon Valley to San Francisco. The funny thing was I was playing bass when I was a first chair trumpet player in junior high and our school John F. Kennedy Junior high in Cupertino won the Northern California Championship in 1970 and made a record. Love you guys!

This is my favorite Manilow song and I listen to it weekly. Emma you did a fantastic job in this arrangement and your fellow students also deserve praise. I'd like to hear more from all of you.
I was in my high school band and orchestra, and enjoyed it so much, my daughter performed in high school and college. Music and the arts give us so much. It was wonderful seeing the passion and joy that Emma and the performers showed. It will stay with them all of their lives.

If any child/teen accomplished what any of those participants did in this song, they could say this was their best accomplishment in life. But unfortunately some will never learn music whether they read or not. To me, through music, the greatest accomplishments can be made. I am 67 and boy am I lucky to have accidentally run across this and be able to listen through a huge 7.2 Atmos system. It was like being there! Thank you Emma and all, everyone in that orchestra was the best.

No one can bully me or force me to like their music or not like my music! There are hundreds of cultures with unique music. If you don't like that musical style change the chanel. Don't be an arrogant bully. This group is fantastic! They try so many different musical styles and I am very proud of their talent and the music they explore.
What is amazing to me is this was a _Bachelor's_ project put together with less than two hours of rehearsals! Excellent job...simply excellent.

I've just discovered this "new orchestral" version of this very well known old song and I'm glad to see such youngsters playing and singing it with so enthusiasm and energy. I almost never enjoy a cover of the music that I grew up on. This time I must make an exception. I so throughly enjoyed this post that I had to go back and listen to it three more times. This even made me fire up the tv computer and listen with a much more sophisticated system. Everyone involved did a superb job. I am so glad I found this.
