So I don’t know if these used this method but when I was in service and we used the conventional shelter halves we would connect the two halves, stake down one side firmly, then on the other side bring the stakes in a short distance and stake them in loosely. Then we would raise the peak of the tent as high as we could with the poles . The poles would be at an / angle. Then we would bring the loose stakes in just enough so that the poles were perfectly | straight and then pound all the stakes in firmly. This method makes it possible for one person to set up and much easier for two people because the tent stays under tension for the entire procedure

I am not familiar with this way of setting up a dog or pup tent however I am going to start utilizing what you described when I am alone that sounds like a good way to do it. Thank you!

Thanks for your vid! I really appreciate the part about stick selection. We inherited a dog tent from a defunct school program and will use it for medieval recreation. Your video is much more detailed than most. THANKS!!🧡

Personally I carry one of the many variations of a Bowie knife. Its a 6 inch blade and is a good camp knife. If you want something smaller there are period pocket knives as well, its really up to personal preference. Here is a link for some ideas.
