those clear locks are also sometimes (mostly?) used to practice lockpicking because you can see how the pick is actuating each pin and the point at which it reaches the sheer line and "clicks"
They all do that. Diamonds are not the correct material for hourglasses. It does work a bit better after cycling and tapping, but even so the material actually adheres to the glass so it is just a novelty.
