  • I adore hiking and trail running but not so much lugging an unwieldy backpack. I’ve just completed a multiday hike of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path during which I experimented with a Montane Trailblazer 30 Fastpack combined with a Montane Featherlite waist pack affording me a much reduced pack weight of 8kg.
    This is Day Three.

      I had great weather towards the end...and that beach! 😍 I love coastal hikes as I can look at the sea and never tire of it for hours...

    That beach looked like it could have been in the Caribbean or at least the south of France somewhere. Absolutely stunning 👍

    Hi Kaz.
    That looked like a lovely walk.
    That spot you found to pitch your tent, what can I say, "WOW"
    All the best.

      Hi Clive! 😊 Yes I’ve had some pretty nice spots to pitch recently by either doing a bit of research before I go and contacting the landowner or by asking when I’m out there 👍

      @@karenguttridge Great video Kaz, I am planning this walk for 2022, I live in Bournemouth, so the New Forest is my training ground at the moment. May I ask how you find the landowner to ask permission?

    • @karenguttridge
      @karenguttridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KarenCoach Yes of course-it’s not always the easiest thing but I tend to start before I leave for my trip. The thing that probably works best for me is I look at the map and if I spot a farm I’ll try and find contact details (an email address usually) then send a friendly request asking if it would be possible to pitch in a field. I say it’s just me and I’ll be super quiet and leave early. You don’t always get a yes or even a reply but sometimes you will!

      Yep. It was freezing 🥶😂 It’s a shame but the more I go off hiking and backpacking, the more fearful I become of the cows!!

      Can’t beat a sandy bottom 😜 I’d never have clambered over all those stones if I wasn’t trying to burst my blisters. And it didn’t work 🤣🤣

      @@ksgonewild No it’s true you should really leave them alone but mine had got so big with so much fluid (sorry, gross 😜) that they were really interfering with my trip. I decided that bursting snd covering in antiseptic was the only way to go 😊👍

      That beach was just perfect! The place I camped was a farmer’s field. This is really odd as there absolutely was a video of day 4 and I had no idea til you commented that it’s disappeared! Now I’m doubting myself-did I post it?! 🤣🤣 I’ll keep looking…

    A lovely day 3 and even with a swim in the sea, but how did you get rid of the salt from the sea? I think it can safely be said that your fastpacking experiment is a success. A small pack for a great tour:)

    • @karenguttridge
      @karenguttridge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t get rid of the salt 😆 Thank you and yes I think the lightweight packing worked just fine for 4 days. I really did miss my kindle though-won’t be leaving it behind again!

    Hi Karen, me and a friend are hoping to go to Ventnor in a months time. I used to live there as a teen and this is my first time going back. I'm now 43. We are looking to do some wild camping and was hoping to stay up on St Boniface downs. Do you know if we would be allowed to pitch up there? I can't find any info, so just wondered if you would know?
    Thanks
    Lee.

    • @karenguttridge
      @karenguttridge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lee 😃 The way I approach wild camping is by assuming it’s not allowed anywhere but when I get to where I’d like to stop for the night I search for somewhere tucked away where I’m not very noticeable. I have never been moved on. I also ask farmers and pub owners if they would mind me pitching up. It often works! What a great trip you’re planning-it will be fab to return after all that time! 😍
