Top effort and well done going out to West Peak. That lunch looked great. Have done Bogong a few times over the years. Staircase, long spur and via Eskdale Spur, T spur and out to Ropers hut. Always a great view from the top. One yr we walked up Eskdale spur with cross country skis. Took a big slide off the side of the spur but ended up ok.
Thank you! There really is so much to explore up there and so many different tracks! Far out, heading up with cross country skis sounds like a huge effort, glad you guys didn't hurt yourselves!
Nah we didn't, we ran out of time and didn't head out to Cleve Cole but we're planning on going back to do it again and camp the night somewhere near there.
@@AdventuresofKatelyn yeah awesome ..it's a beautiful part of the word ..recently I walked from mt.beauty to falls to Hotham etc...the called a lockdown the day I started ...I was like ...naah I'm going hiking thanks lol 😳
Did a similar misjudgement 10 years ago, a "day" trip to the summit but also took in Cleve Cole Hut, which is about an hour or so in the opposite direction to the summit, so we came down Eskdale Spur. Ended getting back to the carpark in the dark about a similar time. We, at least, were camping at Mountain Creek campsite. Next time we'd make it an overnighter and camp at Cleve Cole hut, as it is in a well treed sheltered area, compared to the ridge.
Sounds like a big day also! We are definitely planning on visiting Cleve Cole Hut next time, sounds like a good idea to camp the night there! Thanks for the feedback 🙂
As a member of the Bogong club ,I think you should make a plan to hike up all the different routes to the Mt. Bogong Summit. Not many people come up Long Spur or The Quartz Ridge. You can get a 4 WD up to Granite Flat Spur car park at nearly 1300 M+. ASL !.That is cheating but cheating is good. One year in September the snow on the Staircase was so deep we had to turn around and abort the mission even with snow shoes!!.In 2020 We had the worst snow season since 2006. Usually in September you need snow shoes or XC skis and kicker skins to get up out of the tree line and up to the top.It can become very icy and crampons and an ice axe would be very handy. People die on Mt. Bogong every couple of years, well experienced people at that.
I can easily see why people die there. I've only been there in summer but in winter I can imagine how steep and icy it would be. especially if the weather turned
Nah we didn't notice it at all. You should be fine. The only time I've ever had difficulty with altitude was during my Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal 😌
@@AdventuresofKatelyn awesome and thanks for the reply! Also Where did you stay? I don't want to camp before this hike so do you recommend anywhere that's good to stay? I read there's a town around Mount beauty
@@azaz6951 hahaha no offence but I found your question very funny. There is a town in mount beauty, it's about a ten-minute drive from mt Bogong. It probably has places to stay. You can also camp anywhere on the trail, when I did this walk we camped at bivouac hut
Hi Dee, the huts are for emergency shelter only. We could have camped next to the hut however we didn't take a tent and didn't plan on spending the night. We didn't rush the hike, we spent over an hour at the summit relaxing which is why we headed down in the dark.
No it doesn't have to, it can be done in a lot less but I would still allow 8 hours for an enjoyable experience. We continued on past the summit to an extra view point which you don't have to do. Plus we took lots of rest and photo breaks 😂

Just came accross your channel. The content is really nice, and it helps to cure the urge to travel temporarily in these times
Thank you! Hopefully inspires some people to go and explore once this pandemic is over!

Love your work. Love the bloopers
Thank you 😬 we like to keep it real haha
Just did this and came back home yesterday pretty hard hike downhill for my second hike.
Definitely not an easy hike! Well done for it being your second hike!
Love it! Keep making more...
Thank you, will be plenty more hiking videos to come! Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss them 🙌🏼
"Mt.bogans" a great walk ...did you find the falls just past Cleve Cole hut?

Bet you had a good sleep after that! Lol. Great vid.
Sure did, it was a huge day! Thank you ☺️
Leaving the summit at 5pm in September? Good thing you had torches!
Yeah we underestimated how long it would take us to get down but it was all part of the adventure. We had an incredible day!

Thanks heaps for the info! Will have to look into it more for next time.

Glad to hear, it's a gorgeous mountain to hike!
Watching your video again after climbing staircase in May.
All because of your video.
Thanks.
Lots of love from Nepal
Thanks for watching 😁
So there's no fees for doing an overnight hike up there??
Not that I’m aware of! Maybe just check with Parks Victoria
Was it hard breathing at that altitude? I want to do this hike but the highest elevation I've been at has been around 600m

You were lucky. Hiking at night in the victorian high country is incredibly reckless.
Sure, it can be if you don’t know what you’re doing. Same as anywhere. I don’t think ‘helped’ us…
Why rush it, and not spend a night at that cabin.? What a gorgeous place to spend the night, relaxing....instead of hiking at Night 🤔

Hope the hike went well
