- ET video chatted with Captain Sandy Yawn to get her thoughts on ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’s new season, airing Mondays on Bravo. She opens up about her tough working relationship with chief stew Hannah Ferrier, who told ET she’s done with yachting after this charter season. Plus, she teases the drama to come and talks about working with the franchise’s first-ever female bosun, Malia White.

Malia setting Hannah up for using medically prescribed Diazepam, when she’s seen her have a panic attack first hand (in the middle of the night), is absolutely disgusting behavior. Captain Sandy is just as bad, for not educating herself or seeking to understand Hannah’s medical condition. Captain Lee was fine with Kat using similar medications for her anxiety, so the “regulations” excuse is not valid. Why the double standard?
Sandy should issue a public apology to Hannah.
Malia knew about her meds and Captain must have known because of the panic attacks from the past season.
Kat had a prescription for her meds and she showed it to Captain Lee. It's not your bosses responsibility to inform themselves about an employees medical condition. Captain Sandy is there to run the ship. I've never had a boss educate themselves about any employees medical condition! Sandy was following policy and law. Hannah should not have brought it on board, let alone been taking it. She knew what she was doing was wrong.
@@rosecapps3384 People don't realize that this is an actual boat, with actual people on it, and people's carriers at stake. They think is a Big Brother show with no consequences, imagine if Captain Sandy would lose her licence and a multimillion boat just so viewers who like Hanna don't get upset.
Hanna is happy, married with children and can concentrate on her health and her life and being happy. Malia is going to be a great captain one day.
Sandy is hard on Hannah. If she came to Sandy, she would have expected Hannah to fix it.

When Malia was telling capt sandy about the bunking situation if that was Hannah she would’ve of told her to fix it yourself your the chief stew but of course she gets on the radio and fixes it for pet Malia. Same as when Malia said Pete was calling her sweety. Capt sandy fixed that too. She didn’t help Hannah with the Italian 2nd stew either

Me too Im not liking Sandy and the 2 mean girls sandy let all the drinkers almost kill themselves but with Hannah she was mean and spiteful. Lord Hannah got awful treatment from Sandy and they were gossiping while Sandy allows others to party. Alcohol is a drug and she treats people nice about that but she ripped into to hannah I think Sandy showed her real self and is Fake that kind Captain act let that scene when she put Hannah on blast and told her she should not be in the business so sad that is wrong.
The male chief stew should definitely be Josiah Carter season 6 Below deck. He was fantastic....

07-27-20: I'm TEAM HANNAH all the way! I'm not a big fan of Sandy because she always seems to go out of her way to bring Hannah down. I wish Hannah were staying on the show, but I understand her reasons, but if she were to come back, please let it NOT be under the direction of Sandy. Sandy's only cool with those who kiss her ass and Hannah's not the one to go there! Kudos to you for that, Hannah!!

a million likes! When Hanna really needed her, she wanted to eat her cereal. for someone who micromanages sooooo much, how is she unaware of Lara's despicable attitude? There is no "turning around" with the likes of Lara. 45? yachts. Hmmmm? one for each weekend then fired? Or she walked around them at a boatshow.
Oh and when Hanna told Sandy she was a problem, Sandy did acknowledge the negative energy, but quickly added, "She's nice o me". THAT is what Sandy cares about. Very poor leadership.

Sandy seems more concerned about being a famous female yacht captain. Most of those yachts have so much tech equipment they captain themselves. I say play sick for the day and stay in the cabin and let Sandy sort it out between 2nd and 3rd stews and running the interior.
She never like Hannah. When Malia came to sandy with a problem she fixed it for her. When Hannah came she would say go fix it yourself your the chief stew

It's very obvious and wrong. She is not a good leader. Captain Sandy has had more people quit or fired than the previous med captain and captain lee combined

They do a good job. If 99% of the people who love to critique the crew were filmed 24 hours for six weeks, they would probably lose their job and half their friends and disappoint their families. Some mistakes you pay with your job, but the they work hard, in a hard industry, being bullied and disrespected by subordinates, customers, and having to cope with everybody commenting on all possible aspects of their lives. So if the Captain knows who is going to do a good job and likes working with those people, good for her. I have seen complete and utter imbeciles make 200k a year for years because nobody had the courage to fire them, wasting air, office space and making work and office life difficult for everyone else, Hanna is happily married with children, Malia is going to break that glass ceiling and be an awesome captain, and Captain Sandy is a rock star of a person, woman, and captain.
Sandy has been endlessly hard on Hannah ever since she kissed that guest, but Sandy is always excessively forgiving of the men being abusive alcoholics. She says she “relates” and brings them back with a raise. She’s a TERRIBLE leader with awful double standards,

She micromanages but never seems to improve the situation. I really wanted to like sandy but Hanna is right, Captain likes talapia (ass kissers) If Hanna had been male and came to Sandy with her problems Hanna would be capt of her own boat by now.
I absolutely love Captain Sandy and I also love Hannah. I think that Hannah is misunderstood. She is the chief stew and she had moved mountains for guests in the past. She is great with the guests and almost always makes the guests time on the yacht memorable. Captain Sandy is a strong female and she is talented and knows what she wants from her crew. Can't wait for this season. Already starting out great.

Hannah should not work with this Captain. The Captain should not have discouraged Hannah, but encouraged her. She is a great asset. I like Hannah, but she should not work with this Captain.
07-27-20: I agree. I don't know why Hannah allowed herself to go back into that lion's den situation. Sandy can be a ball buster where Hannah is concerned sometimes. I've seen others do much more and they weren't reprimanded by Sandy as Hannah has been for doing far less.
I love to see a woman doing great in a male dominated industry. But Sandy, the micromanagement of the crew is extremely annoying!!
Don't go work for her then, personally I would love to work for her, because if your open to listening to a person like her, you will learn & grow in the business as many people she's worked with in the past have.

Just curious as to why it took Malia so long into the season before sending pictures to Captain Sandy. They were cabin mates, I would've thought Malia would've seen her drugs before Tom came on board. Also does the production company not share in some responsibility to report drugs on board?
Sandy has to be the most Micro managing captain. Non of the other do what she does. And her negative comments all the time. I would NEVER work for this woman, how the crew puts up with her sh@t. She is so full of it and quite obvious she loves the camera. You have never seen Adam work for her again

Right. Kiko was professional. Malia's boyfriend who said he would never cook on a boat, lied. He cannot handle the pressure and his food was not that appealing to the eye. Sandy has a hard on for that snake Malia.

It was extremely immature how Captain Sandy went about it.That little middle school thing about oh you don't think I care you don't think I care, okay I don't care . Now I don't bleeping care . What wait what. .. SMH it was unfair. Wonder what would happen if the rest of the crew were drug tested ? Malia's may not be the little angel she wants people to think she is. It really was a revenge tacticbecause Malia was pissed about the cabin arrangement. She had seen all that before and never said anything till she got pissed off. She has such a big head right now. Plus the prescription is over a year old.
Love Hannah..Only watch the show for Hannah. Dont like Sandy once Hannah is gone im done with this show. We still have Capt. Lee love him...

Sandy really is a terrible leader. She has the tendencies of a misogynist, and likes to label women in the crew like she has them all figured out. She bullies and micromanages, she’s difficult to work with, and has unreasonable expectations. She also sees very little of what happens on the boat between crew members and then makes judgements while claiming she sees all. She’s a tripper and beyond awkward to watch. I can’t stand her. Hannah makes the show....period.
By the way Laura wasn't touching Hannah. She was eating, told her to go clear the table and she was getting ready to put her food away. Hannah was blocking her.
I dont care for Captain Sandy.. I respect her place as a Captain in this business but Hannah is right.. She is nice and cares for the ones that kiss her ass.. I think she is hoping that she will become as popular as Captain Lee but that will never happen.

I would love so see them swap Kate and Hannah with each other. Kate would be gone in a couple of days under Captain Sandy and I think Hannah would blossom under Captain Lee. Kate is totally fail and survives only because Lee is blind to her bullying abusive behaviour.

And once again we have people that think what we see is all we see. That the boat goes into dock for a week, everyone gets off, then comes back & goes out for another hour or maybe each charter is only 2-3 hours long in real life. Because of course there's no way stuff is left out. You are so one eyed about these stews & capt. that you cant even see past your own ignorance. I've watched both capt.s & chief stews change over time. None of them are the people they were at the start of the series, none of them are the perfect capt. or chief stew. They all have faults & they all admit it, but I laugh how you assume how it would be Kate that would go. It just amazes me how many think she has no balls, back bone, hard work or anything in her. I would love to see any of you do one of two charters just to see what it's really like under eithet capt. Or stew.
07-27-20: I agree. Kate also has too much sarcasm for my liking and if you don't adhere to her rules or if you express your negative feelings about her, she can be vindictive. I prefer Hannah!
I love Sandy, she is fair, honest and no B.S. Hannah on the other hand is dillusional and extremely passive aggressive. I have said this every season. The CANNOT take what she dishes out. Hannah, you cannot talk shit about other people behind their backs, and then cry and whine when it is done to you !! Want better people? BE a better person. Wow.....she does say it, too much! Comes off- very unintelligent. When she thinks she is so bright and always right. I'm so discusted by the show using this story line for ratings. Mental Health is no joke.....my son struggles daily. He said, it's people like them that make you hide because of how your treated or how it will be used against you!!
Will never watch this show after this..... anyone that continues to watch does not support mental health. Mental Health needs more support. Educate yourself because if you do not have a love one with mental health issues.....I am sure you will cross paths with someone who does. This way, you will know how to help or know what not to do. YES! Scripted reality. I've noticed crew members just doing there job, then BAM. Production had a talk with them to spice things up.

Me too, Hannah is great Captain Lee take her she's great!! Alcohol is a drug so Sandy you were enabling all the dangerous alcohol abuse and were kind to the drinkers and alcohol abusers, but with Hannah you did an illegal action of putting her medication issues on high alert. That should have been private!! You lacked professionalism and there should have been a gentle process especially if someone has a problem, you were so kind with all the drinkers and on your watch people drank alcohol in a very Dangerous way in every season. Drugs are drugs alcohol is a drug... You co signed dangerous drinking every season but than go after Hannah and let 2 mean girls set her up all the while they were gossiping. It is not a joke Hannah is Human being this was serious not an issue to gossip, and laugh about let alone speak to everyone about. It seemed that you had it out for Hannah the last 2 seasons. Captain Sandy setup Hanna this season, it was apparent from the beginning. To constantly praise Bugs in front of guests and Hanna was so nasty and unprofessional. She basically picked up where Adam left off on constantly putting Hanna down. It’s true Sandy loves someone that kisses her ass. No one works well under those conditions! If Bugs is taking Hanna’s position going forward I’m done with Below Deck!

I did not like below deck Mediterranean with the sailboat. I watch the first show and after that never watched it again. I just really did not like it. I like the original below deck on the big boat.

Tell you from third century career at sea on fishing vessels women NEVER a good idea the only way I have EVER seen it go ok is when it is small commercial vessel only 2 persons on board and it was husband and wife team like 50 ft little salmon trawler or albacore jig boat with no other crew onboard nor required and the couple lives together on it for season the dude usually does most every thing and she takes wheel watches on courses he sets while he works deck and runs gear, that type of thing, but EVERY otjer time I've seen them on a crew its been horrific, they simply cannot pull the weight of avg male deckhand which makes most crew pissed because the girls getting equal share aka equal pay but just can't do the same labor same sleep deprivation all season can't refrain from seasickness as well can't lift same weight etc etc sore just FACT and then aside from most male crew being pissed at the unfairness of it they always end up sleeping with a deckhand who then assumed the defensive protective roll over her so then you have 4 who hate the two lol so deckhand in commercial fishing legit crew doesn't work and galley cook was all bad as well became nightmare every time between seasick (I don't know why women are more prone to it its FACT tho ) issues etc then Deck crew ends up having to lift load the heavy galley supplies she can't lift but EVERY male Deckhand or cook easily can so at the dock Deck crew ends up having THAT added to their workload at the dock which SUCKS for them, I can go on n on about this but I assure you ONE thing 33 (+) yr career commercial fishing will teach you is men and women are NOT the same and there is nothing wrong admitting it its just a cold hard fact of life. So don't ever buy the lie that women and men are exactly same amd can do same, sorry bravo, a heavily edited p.c. tv show about luxury yacht charters may want to spin that web by all of us with experience know better
