How could anyone give this video a thumbs down, unless you are an auto mechanic and this is taking business from you. It literally took me longer to find the tools than to replace the bulb. The one thing to add to the video is you do not need a second person because you can position the tail light so you can see it from the drivers seat when testing the brake light.
This video just keeps on helping people! Changed both of my bulbs today. Didn't realize there was a second different bulb as well in the housing, but just confirmed this in the manual. Thanks for a great, clear and concise video.
Thank you so much for this video!! Good close ups, highlights, tips and simple to follow. My challenge was getting the cover off without knowing how it attached internally and worrying about breaking plastic.. Once I saw the video it was clear You saved me time and money.
Short, sweet and thorough. Good sound, excellent video annotations (arrows). Accelerated when detail is not needed, but slowed down or frozen when we need the detail. Great job.
Excellent tutorial. The Toyota manual does not mention either locator post. The manual does suggest to pull the lamp assembly directly backward. There was so much fossilized crud holding tight that the trick with the screwdriver worked nicely. I padded the screwdriver so I wouldn't crack the break (brake) light assembly like Brandt F below. Thanks for sharing Brandt. I have the same kind of Timex analog watch - nice touch.
Thank you! Saved me a trip to the repair shop (they scheduled me next week) so very happy to have fixed it my self using your super clear instructions.
Excellent video....fast forward in parts was great, plus narration and explanation. But I especially love the intro graphics....please tell me how you did it!
I replaced both brake lights just now following your instructions. The left went well, but the right chipped the light housing where the screwdriver pressed against it. Fortunately the chip is concealed once the liftgate is closed.
screwdriver ended up cracking the plastic - used my hand - jammed my fingers in on the lower right corner area and pulled straight back while wiggling a lot - mine was stuck on there really good. put a dab of grease on the ball bit and now it comes out much easier.
I just did both sides on our 2014 RAV. Be aware that there are two plastic guide pins, one upper and one lower. Take great effort to pull the housing back as straight as possible. I broke one off...
Following this guide unfortunately cracked the housing on the left break light assembly where you are meant to pry the housing with the screw driver...
Getting the housing off is most of the trouble. Prying the back off is key. The side slides, but not straight out. It angles away from the car. So the whole thing gets pulled out, and away.
Do not use a flathead to push the light out. Instead push the light towards the rear. I followed his advice to use flathead to pry and took a chip of the shell out of the corner
As I was removing both taillights. The plastic on the side and inner part broke off.. Toyota's are nothing but cheap plastic parts all over there cars won't be buying another.
Thanks for the video. This is the fret time I’ve ever fixed anything on my car. Feeling so empowered!!!

7443 standar or 7443 ck?
I think the bulb I used was standard.
Excellent instructional video !
Gra. Also works to open and get rid of the water inside. So you safe replacing the whole brakelight because water somehow went in.
What's the name of that 3-piece wrench?
3/8 drive ratchet, short extension & socket.

Great video, same procedure for RAV 4 2015 xle. Thanks!
The part about using the screwdriver was very important as the manual just says to pull straight out.
Thanks, Man!!! Very helpful !!!
