Every time I get a “I wonder what this sounds like?” thought in my head, this dude has a video for it. It’s much appreciated.

Just got this combo a few weeks ago. Thanks for the great video. I think this amp has all the dynamics and personality that make a truly great vintage or boutique amp. The power scaling goes from champ to deluxe to twin. The 3 band eq with presence is phenomenal. And who wouldn’t love a perfect fender style spring reverb on their tweed?
I always thought mkiv mkv were kind of a sterile Fender clean and bad Marshall interpretation. Never liked the dynamics or reverb or even the speaker.
This amp is truly a phenomenal offering from Mesa. I don’t think the speaker was a perfect choice and it’s definitely way bass heavy on the eq above 9:00. Still not a problem though because it sounds awesome set about every which way you go.

Any idea on what sort of speaker you might chuck in there instead? I kind of like the way it sounds with a C90?

I think people spend way too much time comparing speakers. I like Celestions of course. I think g12h30 is the best speaker of all time. Alnico are great but I like a regular ceramic.

I found your video last night and played around with your settings on my California Tweed and I think you’re on to something here. I have a Musicman Cutlass that just really works with the amp set up this way. My Silver Sky, well I think you found it’s sweet spot on this amp. It sings like an angel limited only by me. I also have an G&L HH ASAT (T Style) and I couldn’t find a bad sound with it with these settings regardless of pickups or if splitting them. Seriously, thanks for sharing your findings. I’ve experimented with my CT, but hadn’t been here yet. In general the amp has perfect manners regardless of what I try, but I really like these settings. Great video, and nice playing too...

@@johnnathancordy yes it does. I had watched a video a couple of days ago of a Silver Sky played through a Two Rock and was feeling like the grass might be greener, but I think this amp has all the right noises in there, I just gotta figure out how to extract them.. 👌

@@johnnathancordy I realized after commenting yesterday that it was another of your videos that finalized my decision to buy one last summer. I had narrowed my choice down to a Suhr Badger or the California Tweed when I saw your “Getting to know my California Tweed video and that sold me.” So what’s next for us? I seem to be riding your coat tails.

Im really impressed by the California Tweed; I nearly bought one but have a boutique amp that does more or less the same thing. And actually, I bought the 1x12 for my Rocket clone I liked it so much (and the cream looks great with the wood box head). With how good pedals are, and how versatile some clean amps are these days, I think the idea that you could just have a single amp that covers everything is a lot more reasonable than it was in the past.

    • @TCMx3
      @TCMx3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ill go ahead and say I think this is the best 'production' amplifier. I like this better than anything else under 4k USD.

Do you have a favorite amp? I've been eyeballing the California Tweed awhile now. Apologies of you've answered this before. My guitar situation is solid, amp...not so much. Love your tones, so I'm curious.

I really like the California Tweed - it might be worth considering if you're a pedal platform kind of person?
If you're into channel switching - I really like the Fillmore 50 as a similar kind of amp to the Cali Tweed but with an awesome drive channel too.
Or a Mesa Mark 3 is really cool too.

  • @antonioalbares

Such a great video and tone, thanks man. I love my fender princeton but it spends most of its time in my closet. To get the tones I like, I have to push the volume to a point that will get me kicked out very fast. I have been considering trading it for this guy. The attenuation options, the FX loop is tempting. And I love your tones. What do you think?

At 2 watts it can still be quite loud, but can definitely do bedroom levels as the master on this amp is great

They're really marketing this amp, it Sounds OK. But it's not a Carr 6v6, a Tone King Sky King, not even a L'il Dawg 5e3 clone.
Seems like boogie is cashing in on a wave that started 12 years ago in mail order low bit rate sample YT vids and word of mouth. Something that only the MKI has any historical connection too (blackface deluxe mod).
I'm not sure this is anything beyond a cash in of their name... What if Marshall started making tweed-amps again? Would that be a cash grab?
People will buy into the marketing, that's for sure.
Their best vintage inspired amp was the Lone Star, that was OK..., sometimes great sounding but never stellar, but it's not a boutique offering either due to famous boogie designed maintenance, over use of pcb, heating / cooling issues, too many toggle switches to fail and need repair etc... - they are the iPhone selling chumps of the amp world.
