Blue: "What does this guy know that i don't?"
Red: *beats a deer to death with several militia for no reason*
"if I can't have it, nobody will!"
That was a 4D chess tactic my man! 😏
I thought of it - Rage for loosing a scout
They need a snack. A well fed militia is stronger - duh! 🙄
Let's just take a moment to appreciate that McClain managed to get this far without farming even once. He was the winner here.
he took a stand against someone with double the army and 6x the resources and still mamaged a better k/d ratio, mcclain doesn’t get enough recognition
Can't have bad farms if you have none :smart:
@@thatonesadcapguy Damn, did you just summarize WW2 in one sentence? :D
@@thatonesadcapguy Damn, did you just summarize WW2 in one sentence? :D
Mcclain really reminds me of myself as a kid when i first started playing aoe2. I would also build a wall across the whole map. And then i would put towers behind walls.
I would have exactly 20 villagers - 5 on every resource. For some reason I figured that was the optimal amount. And then i would slowly advance through the ages, buying all the upgrades and fending off any attacks. After I got all the upgrades (most of which I had no idea what their purpose was because I didn't speak English back then), I would build a 'HUGE' army. And by 'huge' I mean around 20 units. And finally would attack and defeat the AI and feel like an absolute military mastermind.
ahh... simpler times
wonderful memories
not too far fetched for when the game originally came out. pop max for most, if not all, campaign missions was 75. Think even for multiplayer. can't remember cuz didn't really do that back then. But one would have had in their mind that such as a lot. With such campaigns 40 vills starts to feel like an over boom.
Same 5 vils on each recource and 2 deticated builder that would do nothing but build xD
legend
i was more like the 10 5 5 5 guy. and then max pop, attack and forget _everything_ while attacking. usually I either won or lost after that ;D
Finally, showcase some players at my skill level!
My skill when I was a child was probably 50ish ELO 😂 so I wouldn't be surprised.... I don't play ranked, even now though...but I think I've improved a lot since then, assuming I could at least play like a 500 ELO player.
@@birisuandrei1551lol, I am so excited. I'm about to get my first decent computer since I was young teen. Used to play so much Conquerors. First ting I'm doing is playing 10 ranked games. No matter how much I suck I WILL get my elo.
Tfw these guys could probably beat me.
😂😂😂
The LEL series is so good for encouraging more people to play ranked. The ranking system will find you games with people that are near your skill level, regardless of what level that is.
If McClain doesn’t absolutely annihilate people’s competitive anxiety I don’t know what will. This man is inspirational and is a legendary monument in all of AOE2.
McClain is pathing the way for persistance and giving so much confidence to others. Dude if you're reading this, we LOVE you, and thank you!
For the longest time I was afraid of starting to play the game because I felt like I would just lose for sure. But... if mcclain can fall down to 9 elo and still keep going then maybe, just maybe I can survive too.
He's having fun in ranked, he's the real winner
Mclaine is a genius, I'm 1200elo and I didn't realize this terrain was amphibious until he taught me
dude if you ever catch mcclain in the wild, LET HIM COOK, just go afk 40mins and come back to see his creative genius flourish
Such a genius, you can't lose army if you don't make any-- it's called being smart
His IQ is higher than your ELO.
@@JD-qq8fzHe did make army though. Militias in feudal, then hand cannons and cannon galleys in imp.
The image of a whole squad of cannon galleys sailing through a gate over quicksand while being chased by cavalry is both absurd and awesome.
Look at me laughing at a 9 elo player, sitting up here on my 198 elo throne
Have you been featured?
I want to point out how important it is that T90 commentates these in such a loving, warm-hearted way. We're not making fun of these new players, but celebrating them for the crazy ideas they have ❤
Also making fun of them 11
Except for the holy ram.... I think that was a solid minute of laughing
You never know what crazy idea might inspire something new on your side.
Veterans are all too often deadset in certain patterns and struggle with even imagining strats and tactics that differ too much.
Also, it's generally interesting watching someone that develop and try new things and never been in touch with the typical copypasta strats and tactics most people go with.
@@kargothmort meh. There's enough people who want to break the mold and destroy the meta. It's just easier to copy paste and adapt a little. Not just in AoE.
They become the stuff of legends at times - as they eat tc's..
Its a bit of both worlds, But yes creativity comes from many corners.
Jorge was playing the campaign objective: Defeat your opponent by attacking him in counter-Fibonacci rotation. Mission success!
If you're not attacking with Fibonacci patterns are you really playing AOE?
ELO so low that the winner still loses ELO at the end of the game.
Seriously though, what a legend.
Ok, but shooting a deer with a cannon galleon is amazing. I lost it.
Truly a power move
Best moment of the match by far
"12 pop , fast imp, relics in the corner" lmao
This makes me nostalgic about how I used to play the game. Back then I was just shit, nowadays I am shit but also worried about executing build orders.
"12 pop fast imp" is the funniest sentence I've heard in aoe🤣
So much respect for those players. I'm afraid to even start the game because of losing and those chads just game on.
Low Elo Legends and T90 gave me the confidence to play ranked. I may lose a lot but I know EVENTUAL I will get to the elo that I can play at. And Honestly the closer I get to it the more fun I have
I still didn't have the confidence, lol, if you're say a low elo legend, how many times do you have to lose until you get to below 1000?
@@musthaf9you start at 1000, so every loss takes you below. I am 82-75 and have just got back up to 950 elo 😅. But all my games feel fun and balanced at this point, so it was worth losing and learning to get there.
@@The_Lag_Monster oh, I thought the starting elo was much higher
@@musthaf9 you also do lose a lot of elo in the first games.
That means you dont have to play that many games to get at your elo.
Me too! I think T90 is responsible for bringing many players like us to AoE2 ranked. In my case- I really doubted I could play, because I'm a turn based tactics/tbs/rpg guy, and consider myself too slow for rts. So I really doubted I would play AoE2, I even pirated, just to save myself from wasting money if I'm end up never launching the game. But when I found enough will to launch it, set up key bindings, and train the basic controls and transition through ages, T90 LEL videos gave me the courage to play against LEL players, and even hope to do better sometimes. Of course, then I bought the game then as well.
My elo went to 700, and then started to go up to around 1100. I ended up as a player who plays for two weeks, then does not for 3-6 months, retraining/relearning upon return each time. But I feel comfortable at this elo, and this type of time investment, so I'm glad to have found my place in this. Still, LEL is what I keep close to my heart.
Wow, 14 pop feudal! We have to let Hera know about this amazing new build. He's always talking about the meta moving to lower and lower pop feudal, but I imagine even he wouldn't expect a 14 pop feudal!
Him being a child is completely believable. There was a time when I couldn't beat the last mission of the tutorial (Wallace) campaign. It probably didn't help that I had a pirated copy of the game (this was in mainland china at the time) and I couldn't understand what's going on (my dumbass thought skirmishers were some form of spearmen and was confused why they throw their spears, I also thought the spearman was a farmer with its large hat and whatnot).
not to mention that with all those early campaign missions the max pop is 75. Meaning a big boom is 30-40 villagers. So stopping at around 13-20 would feel kind of reasonable. So do the tutorial campaign and then jump into ranked. would make sense for a kid's skill and thought process.
@crakkadil Dang, that sound like a pain in the ass.
... Yeah I'll see myself out.
when I was younger I thought you needed a dock to advance age.
it was a combination of not being able to read, seeing that in some games I can age up because the dock counts as a building for feudal, and some campaigns being locked to feudal or castle and there not being any water so I thought its because I cant build a dock I cant age up.
When I was younger I always made 16 eco. 4 wood, 4 gold, 4 stone and 4 food. Then I played my first online game… 😂 AoE became a whole different game that day!
How do you have parents so shitty they let you use a computer before teaching you to read?
@@Theseus1989 Me too. 8 on food was perfect because 8 farms perfectly surround the mill. And about the other resources, I had a bit more on wood so I could afford continuous simcity building, but I also had no more than 5 on gold and stone, because having more would mean the mines would run out faster, and that was scary.
I once hit castle at about the 30 minute mark as a kid. I felt like a God lmao
I mean that adds up to 20 but yeah i know what you're sayin
The whole video was an epic adventure. The Wall, Relic heists, Cavalry slowly sneaking through a hole in the wall, naval maneuvers, strategic fortyfications and the canon galleons power. Thank god that you cannot dig moats in this game. Almost a full movie, with excellent comentary. Thank you!
I had the fantasy of jumping into Mcclain's seat at the 45:00 mark and winning the game. Just put a gate on the main wall, and another one on the side wall, send a few units to attack blue, blue would return with the entire army, and I'd destroy it with the cannon galleons.
This entire series is that fantasy XD
@@gatoreptiliano8785 Indeed it's a lot of fun imagining how late in the game could we still win it if we jumped in.
16:25 Yeah, as a low elo player I constantly just assume the other player is doing everything right if I can't see evidence otherwise. I recently surrendered a game where I got tower rushed and lost probably 12 vills and access to half my resources thinking the game was over. I turn around after surrendering to see I still had a 9 vill advantage cause the other player took all their eco off food and onto stone, gold, and wood. If I had just played on a little longer his momentum would have died out and I'd have prolly won but the low elo fear won out.
There are many games where some momentum can make you win a game from a lost position, just because your opponent gives up.
Both computer games and board games.
Once I got over that and learned that low elo pushes usually have 0 juice behind them, I gained at least 100 elo. No, they don't have a great economy behind that push...
We need a multiplayer auto-match mode in which people to be in a 2v2 with 1v1 civs. I mean 2 people controlling one town (using the same color), vs 2 people controlling another town (using the same color).
That's Archon Mode from Star Craft 2, isn't it?
I've always wondered what it would be like for 4 pros to pay that way
Starcraft 1 has this actually called Team Melee. It's playable under "Multiplayer," but you can play LAN vs AI so it's effectively singleplayer. You can choose which race your workers are & your game would start with workers from multiple different races if you chose them.
im 100% on board for watching Mcclain's journey whenever you upload it, here's hoping they commit to it further.
T90 heard you talking about some complaints about your casting? So wanted to let you know your content is what rekindled my love for AoE! Never really lost it but you know, it’s an old game. Obviously when getting back in the game found out about the new content! So 1st of all thanks for getting me back in to this awesome game! Always lived your casting especially when you start role playing units! I like the high ELO content but the low ELO is definitely my go to content! Obviously McClain is my favorite AoE player now! If he ever feels like why am I even playing this… I really hope he finds out about his fan base! Anyway keep up the great work and I forgive you for all the bad Dutch and German pronunciations haha have a good one!
I remember when l was a kid in the mid to late 2000s, it took my dad and l well over 2-3 hours per campaign because we didn't know about unit counters and all that stuff, we built walls and towers, a LOT of monks, and slowly won the game
Those powerful spearmen are killing our paladins!
Solution : convert them! Since not even Paladin can kill them
Your videos are actually therapeutic bro, I watch you when I get anxious or depressed and your upbeat and entertaining personality helps a lot. And I found new enjoyment in playing the game too. Thank you so much, I wish you lots of success. Much love from Burgundy, France.
9 Elo seems like a impossible task.
Until you realize, that he might be still a very young child.
I mean, when I was like 6 years old, I definitely wasn't much better then him. I just turtled, build tower walls, build one big army and hoped that this would end the game...
More like 2 year old. I mean, if you randomly click stuff, you'd have at least 2-digit elo 11
I was thinking the same thing. Randomly resigning for no reason feels like a young child getting bored. Which hey, you do you, boo. Right? Lol
I often see this angle that these players are young children, but if they are, wouldnt they be playing something like fortnite instead? Why would they be playing an old boomer game like aoe2?
what impresses me is that these people have been playing online A LOT if they managed to get to 9 Elo
@@geno240805 They probably looked up "Best RTS game" and it was between AOE, WC3 and SC2. Who knows, maybe their PC is potato and this is the best "realistic" RTS game available.
Maybe they're playing on their parents old PC and it was already installed.
Actually making navy is an interesting idea. I tried it and found that the navy can move over the sand in the middle of the valley in the map. So one dock can produce canon ships that protect the middle.
Shoutout to @benavert in the Twitch chat with this comment: "8 vil build? Very streamlined." LOL... made my day!
Also @WolperRumo: "perfect dock for water control"... So glad Twitch chat is back!
ill say it, mcclain is a mastermind, he may not win a lot but the level of innovation and creative genius is something you just don’t see in players, he had a more then decent stand off against someone who had 6 times more res collected, had double the army and even tho mcclain lost, he lost with a better k/d then his opponent
mcclain vs jorge was basically sparta vs persia, but this legend has video evidence
i mean be honest, how many of you would have thought of walling the ENTIRE middle and defending that line with canon ships on this map
It would be fun to have a teacher's tournament/ apprentice league/ Squire's league where you get 2k+ players to coach 100 ELO players for 3 hours and then tournament where they can give instructions between matches but not during.
This is a really cool idea actually
God this video cracks me up. In fact, I started laughing as soon as I saw the title and thumbnail. These cast are so nice, it's just chill observing players who just enjoy the game in their own way, which is what Age of Empires does best. Anyways, now that we've have part one and two, Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, I think we'll need part three, Return of the King when Mcclain is at 1 elo.
I'm 18 minutes in and I am not as confident that blue will win. The town bell for the single scout just about made me choke laughing.
BRO how could you miss the crazy spinning galleon at 54:14 loool
@21:40 Coinage takes several thousand resources to pay out, so even in team games, it's only going to be worthwhile if you're sending resources as an actual strategy, and not just sending several hundred food a few times so somebody can rebuild their farming economy or something.
Never played aoe2, I only played Age of Mythology personally, so i was worried I wouldn't understand/follow along. However this was easy to follow along, and reminds me a lot of Bronze Heroes from Husky back when for starcraft 2. Love your commentary, and glad I was recommended this channel/video!
You should try it. Age of Empires 2 is an excellent game.
I enjoyed this game, clearly he's either just picked up the game or is very young, I do appreciate his spirit to keep going, all props to McClain, he's a player that the game needs. Thanks T90 for keeping Low Elo Legends alive and booming.
The funny thing is that mclain play better than the 9yo me ! I stopped at 8 vills, I was worst than a 9 elo ! Even if after my first internet game where I got totally destroyed, I realized that I needed to produce a lot of vills and place my farms next to the TC just by looking at the opponent base. But I was too afraid to go online again until I was 27.
How did your return go?
@@LlywellynOBrien i won my first games before starting loosing and stayed between 800 and 1000 elo.
@@JeanC705 Glad to hear you had a better experience. Picking it up after another 20ish years might have been challenging.
@@LlywellynOBrien thanks i trained against hard ai before going online again lol
Easiest diff scared me away from playing, as scary as resident evil. And now I'm still having flashback from aoe1 and haven't touched it since
I actually yelled LETS GO in tandem when he researched chemistry lmao.
4:21 I'm dying over here, 😂😂🤣
I noticed you talking about youtube algorithms so I thought I'd offer up my experience as a viewer to maybe help out? Ive never watched your videos before and never played age of empires, but the reason I like these videos is because I can understand what a low elo player is, something about the watching the lowest skill bracket in any game is fascinating because they must be doing something truly unique to be so low. And because I dont have any intentions of getting into the game I dont really care about who is good at it or who the pros are. The video that got pushed to my feed was your "Smallest map ever" video, I guess because it was trending however I only watched a part of it. These low elo videos are what will turn me into a returning viewer. Idk if any of that is helpful to you but either way I wish you the best
These people have some of the toughest mentals out there, I don't mean to demean them but the way some of these people play they would struggle with bots yet alone with other players. Despite multiple losing streaks they carry on and seem to have fun.
I'm gonna be honest, I only consume low elo legends content because it's the only gameplay I can identify with
Monestary in the corner, wall across the middle? I think he knows about relic victory.
Def want more McLain but def want to see Jorge's progress as well plz!!!
15:45 Mcclain quickwalls faster than Daut.
This had me laughing so hard. When he put the dock down, I was crying.
T90 is trully the best, not only he casts low elo games in the most wholesome way, he also gives us luck in love! Trully an unmatched legend!
This McClain guy is a true legend
This is like watching T90 play Stronghold 🤪
the great wall of mcclain was a great missed title for this one
Mcclain pushing deer at 9 elo? I'm not gonna make it
No McClain has probably played some AI games. He probably plays the campaigns on easy and takes 5 hours for each mission.
Truly one of the games of all time.
As someone that never played online for over a decade until i started watching this channel 2 years ago i did start out feeling like my opponent always knew better but thanks to your videos i came to realize that i am actually above average in game knowledge, being aware of what every tech in the game does and whenever i actually stopped playing for fun and started taking things seriously i would consistently win, of course i would always switch back to playing for fun after a while cuz that's what i play games for, but i always realized afterwards that my base level had improved and eventually i was so good i my friends asked me to teach them how to play properly cuz they kept getting 1v4d by another friend of mine, after 2 months they were all better than him thanks to my teachings while i still can 1v3 them lol
Watching McClain play is actually somewhat inspiring to me. It reminds me not to take things so seriously or care about things like rank as much.
i wanna see mcclain vs a pro but mcclain has an hour advantage to set up his play the way he envisions it
Yes, and give him a 400 pop cap.
@@LlywellynOBrien why? he is ok with 60
@@ignaciomazzoni8843 hmm, good point.

Mcclain looks like an AI trying to learn the game
Agreed, I reckon it is, could also explain the APM spikes
He's like the first round of deep learning for an AI program. Literally just does whatever
This is one of the greatest videos on the entire channel.
McClain’s game would improve so much by hotkeying the resign button
That was seriously some big brain thinking from mcclain, I'm impressed. He definitely has potential.
For anyone saying McClain is a bot or neural network of some kind they are not. To generate training data you would not do that in real time. You would generate as many games as possible.
I love McClain for playing the game on their own terms and clearly just enjoying it
Unless youre just being cool about it lol
I love falling asleep to the best commentary alive every once in a while and I've just now seen your face for the first time and now it's all I can think about
I can't thank enough t90 for LEL games. It's true joy for me to watch the se games thank you.
There are also side benefits that some civs get based on techs: Spanish get +50 gold for any tech, Aztec monks gain HP based on monastery techs, etc. These specific bonuses don't make coinage/banking worthwhile currently, but I think it complicates future similar bonuses if you start adjusting available techs depending on game type.
I love your non interference policy, I wish more youtubers had the same approach
I really have to see more of Mcclain, this guy is just from another world.
Miclain's cannon galleons destroying the trebs fills me with the breath of divine inspiration
McClain should go through the Sun Tzu Tutorials.
Blue could do some things better but it's very positive that he's not forgetting the upgrades like lot of newer players do.
Guys if you ever see this guy give him a battle so he has fun but make sure to lose we need to make him the greatest player of all time. FOR MCCLAIN!!!!!!
If I played ranked/pvp and my opponent built a wall like that and I suddenly found it I would be scared af. Like "OMG that's a pro, I'm screwed" kind of scared.
Mcclain just needs to adopt the 37 farm meta
McClaine is going to get his ELO to 1 or 0 if possible and then enter an Open tournament and crush everyone for the memes.
Hey everyone! Look! Those are my people! I'm so proud of being a part of them.
McClain is a legend. They should be the channel mascot in my eyes! I hope T90 does follow through and keep checking up on them!
McClain refuses to give up... a bit of a Die Hard.... ?
This was amazing, but McClain could improve a bit. For example instead of walling half map, he could save a lot of stone with just walling in his opponent
T90 you should cover pooplord's canon galleon strategy.
I remember playing age of conquerors as a kid and the easy Ai would have a villager high of 13. It's possible McClain saw that and thought that was a good number to go for
If I were to guess, McClain has to be some experimental AI that a beginner in coding tried making. The high APM, extremely consistent strategies, and super low elo hint to this. No human would keep playing this game if they lost as much as this person does and never changes or learns. This HAS to be some kind of AI
The only tactic that worked once was cannon galleons and not walls so that wouldn't explain the walling unless the AI is specifically rewarded to wall off sections of the map which is a very specific and hard to program reward. I highly doubt it though because the way he plays looks erratic, messy and thus human and not AI-like. He's just a player that enjoys the very specific way he's playing the game, maybe even in an OCD kind of way that pushes him to this style. Winning or losing is not the important thing.
😂 my thought exactly
I think jorge is a future low elo legend. He had all the army anyone could ever need but waited for every single upgrade to be in. He waited for max pop. In the second attack after red's village went down, he trebbed the gate but didn't press until the monks had full healed everything. He's a completionist in the worst way.
I am 100% here for the AOE journey of McClain.
Mcclain is playing a tower defense game while we're watching rts. 😄
McClain is my spirit animal! ❤
New T90 Troll challenge: wall the entire middle of the map in Feudal Age
I love that he builds gates in the partitions, but always just off of the naval terrain.
(EDIT: he finally did it!)
16:00 yes, especially if he has 1000 more points than me
4:17 OMG! I commented on the last 60elo game and pinned on a timestamp saying there is deer moonwalking and this happens again on the same guy but lower elo lol
T90, what people are hearing is just electrical interference (noise). To remove it, add a Reaper VST filter called "reafir_standalone" to your mic audio chain. Select Mode: Subtract and check "Automatically build noise profile", then don't speak or make any sound for a few seconds; just let the filter pick up ambient noise. Put it at the start of your filter chain and it should help.
He won't read this, but maybe his tech guy will. 🤔
At 45 minutes in. I just imagine that blue's army is sitting there and blue probably thinks red has all kinds of army in his base. Of course, he has absolutely nothing.
"MccLain is a Legend, you cannot fathom"
Oh goddamn it not this guy again. Let’s see if he breaks 12 pop this time
EDIT: You know what, he’s getting better. More vils and at least he’s not hard-walling with Goths any more. Give him a few weeks and I think he’ll break triple digit ELO.
With the elo rank skill creeping up, I am not too sure.
You mean double digits 11
Watching that cannon galleon leave open the gate made me LOL
this is exactly how my father loves to play the game. low eco, wall the whole map. these old men would have thrived in medieval times
Maybe Mcclain have only 1 hand to play, it could explain ac lot!
Thats true, i knew a one handed gamer.
lmao I love the cannon galleon on the right just doing donuts at 54:12
My favourite video yet! What a legend!
mmcclain is probably 80 years old and just chilling
