It’s funny that people still mix up the Wii and Wii U so I’ll break down the compatibility: The Wii could play Wii and Gamecube games, and supported both discs. It had the control ports and memory card slots. The very late Wii models dropped GameCube support (around the time of the Wii Mini’s release) and the top panels were fused to the shell. The Wii U supported Wii and Wii U games physically and digitally, but also supported Gamecube games within its OS if you hacked the console to enable it. You were limited to digital only with Gamecube on Wii U but it was native support, and supported the Wii U Gamecube adaptor when hacked.
Their patents aren't even a valid arguement, they took them out after the fact so they can't even challenge them in court over it. It's going to get thrown out so easy. They are attempting to set a precedent, it's going to fail because it's such a longshot slimy thing to do.

In COD online It's often all based on the gun you pick as well, if you're running around with an AR on a small map, anyone with a submachine gun will win, once you unlock progression for guns and you get attachments that definitely do boost the ability. But often starter guns end up being great, I find distance on the maps to be the biggest factor in which gun will bring success.
I think video game preservation should be seen in a similar light to any other art preservation because realistically all it is is a large collection of art. From soundtracks & game design to character models The vast majority of games are compilations of art created by many people. My Hope is that one day we actually view them as the art they truly are, we have museums for art preservation & I would like to see a culture shift to include video games. Similar to the policy on Spotify, where once you post a song you cannot remove it because they state someone out there may love this version & they wouldn't want to take that away. That is how games should be viewed, If people are willing to run their own servers when a game is shut down, they should have the ability to preserve that experience.
We talk about it because, making it illegal means the barrier to entry is higher, and it makes it harder for Non-tech minded people to enjoy the same things.

I very much enjoyed Russ & Bill's controller breakdown videos . I personally have a xim Nexus controller for gyro on pc if im playing fps & for local games with friends I have a bunch of the gamesir nova lites, they have hall sticks, decent quality, wifi dongle for a very competitive price, great for couch games! (They dont have gyro or any fancy inputs or extra buttons.) My friends and i play rivals of Ather 2 with them & they work great.
There are a lot of films on celluloid and books printed on wood pulp paper from the early 20th Century that were lost forever because the publishers refused to publish more copies or allow anyone else to publish more copies because they were afraid it would compete with their newer materials. Now there are preservation societies to prevent this, but it did happen with books and movies as well.
They still haven't given us the majority of the libraries, the worst part of their emulation is that they pick and choose random titles. I waited so long for dk64 that I learned what emulation was.
I agree 100%! The game that pushed me over the edge was Mario RPG. We rented it from blockbuster back in the day and the game glitched on the same boss every time, we convinced our parents to rent it again and we made sure they grabbed a different cartridge but alas it glitched too so we never got to beat the game. I wanted Nintendo to bring it to NSO so badly but eventually gave up and just emulated it, 1 week before they announced the Switch remastered version… (which I did buy as soon as it came out) XD
What you're talking about with subscriptions is called being "grandfathered in" - if you bought at a certain price, it should stay that price even if prices go up, unless you cancel and re-sub. I've worked for a large online adult entertainment company for 17 years, and we do exactly that - and it works. We have customers who have never cancelled that have had a subscription the entire time I've worked for them. I am 100% sure we're making more money because of that.

if you want cloud gaming or use a Mac. buy a gaming pc, installed Sunshine streaming, install a virtual display, put it somewhere in your hose plug into the internet, and than install moonshine on your Mac. 4k/120/HDR. Much better latency, better image, and you can of course use it anywhere as well. right, no time limit.
I'd really like a controller with standard sticks, buttons and a trackpad that can be used as the desktop mouse when not in play as a steam / PC controller. I love the steam deck and its pads so much that I just want THAT as a controller, minus the screen.

As they state in the podcast, these kernel-level anti-cheat suites are limiting many games to the use of Windows. Furthermore, giving these huge corporations kernel-level access on your machine is just another ingredient for disaster, as they will expand presence there, using it in the future for DRM or other invasive uses. I think we should be spreading an attitude of patience and appreciation when it comes to Valve's approach because I only hear frustration which I think we all understand, but I think Valve's approach helps us more in the long run.
I dont think valve had anticheat showing on their pages previously, you are probably thinking of DRM which is best thought of as extra Copy Protection, that was/is shown but anticheat was not until now.
This is why I don’t buy digital music or movies. If my access to a movie I’ve bought is removed by the company I purchased it from, then my money should be returned too right? I understand that you’re buying a “licence” and not purchasing the movie, but the rules should be the same for both right? I’m happy to rent a movie, and when I buy a game I usually wait for most of the bugs to be fixed and wait for a sale. I’ll never pay full price a game unless it’s a cheaper title. Forget about the $70 games, I’m happy to wait if there’s a chance it’ll be taken away from me in the future.

I like my 8bitdo pro controller [snes form factor/handles/sticks] (there is also pro_2) I went with the one I can remove the back and use batteries if for some reason you wanted too and has all the features before the ultimate 8bitdo line came. The only thing my fingers not long enough for some griping around the controller it's a far reach for triggers and stick (shooter style) not comfortable for me at least.

The problem with forcing companies to honor their current price/service with someone unless they move from or cancel that plan; is that the cost of delivering that service to the customer will always increase over time because of inflation. I could see companies may be required to do that for potentially a year, but not in perpetuity.

1:10 Treyarch/Raven prolly dropped the difficulty cause they historically can't do veteran right. They're much better at making a "casual" super gameplay diverse experience instead of veteran, in which Infinity ward historically excel at (their stuff is borderline singleplayer milsim lmao)
7.5h is good for a Single Player Game? Nope it’s not. I’m 40, one kid, family, full time job as programmer and say 25h is good. It lasts you a week. Playing sessions shorter than 1.5h are not worth it in my mind. Immersion breaking and rushed. But I guess I’m lucky that I have 1-2h playtime every day after son goes to bed 8pm till 10pm at least.

Wii was BC with GameCube. Wii U was BC with Wii. The ONLY times Nintendo consoles weren’t BC is when they completely changed formats (i.e., switch from cartridge to disc and vice versa).

Yeah, it was the later models that did away with Gamecube compatibility, it otherwise worked perfectly out of the box on launch.

If you softmod your Wii u you can play gamecube games without emulation. It was the disc reader that was not compatible with gamecube

The problem with forcing companies to honor their current price/service with someone unless they move from or cancel that plan; is that the cost of delivering that service to the customer will always increase over time because of inflation. I could see companies may be required to do that for potentially a year, but not in perpetuity.
Not sure I agree about the take on the new COD multiplayer - it's always been this way; it makes you get better at the game, starting off with basically nothing.
I think everyone should start with the same gear and the only thing that should separate them is skill. But that's just me.

7.5h is good for a Single Player Game? Nope it’s not. I’m 40, one kid, family, full time job as programmer and say 25h is good. It lasts you a week. Playing sessions shorter than 1.5h are not worth it in my mind. Immersion breaking and rushed. But I guess I’m lucky that I have 1-2h playtime every day after son goes to bed 8pm till 10pm at least.

LOL wtf are you talking about. Nintendo has the better track record than both Xbox and Sony when it comes to BC. GBA was BC with GB and GBC. DS was BC with GBA. 3DS was BC with DS. Wii was BC with GameCube. Wii U was BC with Wii. The ONLY times Nintendo consoles weren’t BC is when they completely changed formats (i.e., switch from cartridge to disc and vice versa).
