    What is one essential item you own?

      My frying pan. Without it, it would be alot more difficult to stick to a healthier diet.

      @@JohnWilson-op9er Do you realize that frying is very unhealthy?

      @@yamiteru4376 I'm aware that it can be but I don't think it is how I do it. I don't use much oil and mainly only use it for stir-frys to blend boiled veggies with tofu, garlic/ginger, and a sauce (for example).

      A wired bar. 😂 For real, had to get it for my back pain due to bad posture.

    I love the parting statement about paying a little more for peace of mind. As a general rule, I don't like to purchase the cheapest item and can rarely afford the most expensive. I usually buy the best QUALITY item I can afford at the time. Also, as a single woman who has a 50-mile round trip commute per day, I don't want to deal with constant vehicle maintenance and having an older car repaired, having to pay for a rental & shop fees. I've been leasing my cars over the last decade and it really works for me. It is under warranty and the maintenance is free for the duration of the lease. This no-worry option brings me great peace of mind.

    Thanks for another thoughtful discussion. I can't get enough of these! Feels like I'm back at university, sitting around the student centre with friends or at a friend's place, discussing various aspects of life in an organic, meaningful & intellectually energizing way.

    The most essential thing I own? My health! Materialistically? My phone. I don’t have a laptop or tablet. My phone is my Rolodex, my photo album, my record collection, my newspaper. It works hard. So I guess I could turn up at an airport with just a passport and a phone and go anywhere…. But most of all it’s my health, sanity and happiness.. does that count?

    Because of your great podcasts, videos, and web site I have grown a passion of living a more minimalist lifestyle. I promote you and your website whenever I talk to others about this way of living. Thank you for your influential talks and sharing this concept.

    T.K. had a great point regarding hearing another person's definition of something before agreeing to it. Yes, I am a Christian but I definitely do not identify with a lot of Christians in America today. I'm probably going to steal his approach when it comes to identifying a certain way and asking people what their definition is of something first.

      T.K seems very aware and comes across as someone who has made huge progress on the spiritual path (or least the ideas within it). Same can be said for Joshua and Ryan though too! These guys have helped me to change my life!

    I'm so glad I found back to you guys. I really need it. I'm happier with less, and it wasn't a phase back then, as everyone told me. Na, after having to move cross country and noticing how much junk I have to move, I'm way happier with less.

    I did the packing party last year, and I kept a list of the things I needed each day, in other words, would not be able to function without, given my current circumstance and obligation. It was 16 items. Eye opening. I spent hours at night in the garage (where the packing party stuff was) with a beer in folding chair, toasting my stuff...what is even IN THERE?

    Tx T.K.Coleman for hitting wisely the essential point to nail the tendency to categorize too simply and eagerly.

    My big sister's has social anxiety, but because she takes public transportation for everything she does, I know that the limited time she interacts with each bus driver helps her feel like she is apart of society. Way better than living in the middle of nowhere and never being comfortable with people coming to visit her like she was in past years.

    Owning no tools vs. owning a small set of handy and commonly used tools. Discuss!😂✌

    • @Seth_Arvila
      @Seth_Arvila 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it matters if tools matter to you. I would say if your a homeowner it would be important to have at least some super basic tools that you would use at least once a month. But if tools add value to YOUR life it would be ok to have a full set of tools that you maybe don’t use too frequently.

    • @username00009
      @username00009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s simple. What are your needs and what are your values? What needs will the tools fill? What need will be filled by having no tools? Which of your values come into play when trying to make the decision?

    Do you have a piece on minimalism and privilege by chance? I feel like minimalism is a great philosophy to reduce the amount of spending we Americans tend to fall into, but for lower-income people, buying a quality product that saves $$ in the long term is not always an option.

    "Not only how U survive...but also how U may thrive"
    The question is " what is appropriation for you"
    Yes, yes, yes, everything is in the definition you and only you can give to things, to "-isms" and how you to choose share & interact with others about them
