One of my biggest issues of the pointed Dan Moi is that the airport security that it was a covert knife in case and they were trying to poke themselves to see how sharp the tip was and when he hurt himself on the sharp reed, he flipped and called his supervisor. I played the Dan Moi and showed them it’s a musical instrument and ended up showing some of your Dan Moi videos as well. Reluctantly they allowed this Dan Moi to fly with me.

What I do is wear a harp and demonstrate it before passing through, so they know beforehand. I carry on a bunch of irreplaceable harps in my carry on. Then in my checked bag I include a large printed notice that they are jaw harp musical instruments, with links to my TH-cam, my full name, phone number and contact info. I have had very good luck with this method. Let them know beforehand I don’t it will avoid them fiddling with the harps too much. Happy flying.

Myra, you are a woman. Wear it as jewelry around your neck. Once I was coming back from Japan, right after 9/11 along with my karate group. We had Israelis returning home to Israel. Weapons are forbidden at their airports, including the Ninja stars some of the guys had bought. I wore my starts around my neck on a chain like chunky jewelry. I told the guys to glue them on their belt buckles with silicone. Ninja belt buckles in checked in luggage - passed thru with no problems.
Make sure when you wear them as jewelry, you also show deep cleavage and wear a short skirt and high heels and sexy perfume. None of the men working Customs will be looking at your Dan Moi. Their eyes will wander elsewhere.

At around minute 3 you mention the low durability of a Dan Moi. That´s right, but...you can fix it easily with a razor blade: retrace the gaps between the reed and the body, and by doing this, the gap will align again.

J, Your demos make it so easy to know which one to buy. Sound, pitch, tone all there. This is why I come to you and not Oberton Pro or Amazon. I am so pleased with the Dernovoi harp I just bought - my first one. The sound is clear and musical and I love it. Looking forward to getting a few more, very selectively. I have no knowledge of music but love to play this little harp.
Thank you so much for your extensive demo videos! They are very much appreciated, and lead directly so sales.

Should add another con: as the reed is short, base frequency is high, therefore the overtones are of smaller count. That means when you take a 'note' it is actually something in between two overtones, the sound is not crystal clear and is buzzy.

I still recall the boink! feeling I got when I played JH back in the day and the reed hit my tooth. As a person noted for his big lips I can't wait for my dan moi to arrive. Let's leave the dentures back there in the head space where they belong, I say. My hope is to stick with the dan moi range as I progress -- assuming I don't over handle them and break the reed. I also appreciate the dan moi sound. All good.

No, not the sound but the vibrations in the head. That is the same reason Tibetan singing bowls work too. The vibration of liquids in the proximity when the bowl is played. Your body liquids actually vibrate and start to quiver with the vibrations of the bowl sound. Try it! Its very real.

If your lip starts bleeding, it means the knee bend of the trigger is rubbing against your lips because it is crowding into the corner of your mouth. Slide the tip of the harp away from the corner of your mouth about 1/8 to one quarter inch to create space for the reed to move. This will take away all the abrasion and no more blood.

con they are made of brass. Brass *can* have a high lead content! I know it is up against the lips and not into the mouth. Saliva could transfer the lead to the mouth. This would be a tiny worry but something I think about. Brass instrument mouthpieces are normally plated because of this

I just bought this instrument and gave it a try. It plays very loudly compared to the other two jaw harps I got earlier - the P. Potkin and the Russian Vargan "Wave". However, after playing it a few times, I managed to cut my lower lips. I think playing gently with some breaks in between might help.

biggest pro is i bring around 40% more tones out of it than with any 200€ khomus because of simple physical facts, as long as my teeth has to be bound on the instrument i am only able for certain amount of jaw movement which results in different tones, but when i only need lip contact i can make looot more tones

There are a bunch of different harps lip playable available at theharpery.com. I am also curious what type of jaw harp was able to chip your teeth. I have hit my teeth a number of times with no damage as most steps are pretty flexible. The only harps I have heard of chipping teeth are the snoopy and all the snoopy variants. But those hrps are pretty awful in general and produce little to no sound.

If a fork can chip your tooth you may not want to a tooth played one. The dude in the video funny jaw harp was playing a morsing, which those can be a little stiff. I watched his video a few times and never even heard it hit his teeth. I am betting based on how chipped up all his teeth are that he has declining oral health as if you look all his teeth are different lengths.
