But actually what happens is quite ambiguous cuz we haven't yet seen the pov of David yet. And also throughout the movie it was quite obvious that David wasn't a normal kid, he did have some issues & he also wasn't as attached to Alexis as he was to him. So David killing himself for Alexis doesn't quite sits right. And also David at a point says that his mother was "abusive" & we all saw his mother was quite manipulative (the way she persuaded Alexis to stay in that store). Who knows if his mother was saying the truth or not🤷🏻♀️ In a nutshell, it's up to you what you make out of the story, because it wasn't just a story on a summer fling. It was way more than that.

nah they werent really a beautiful couple. the way david used alex, and how he explained his behaviour afterwords is not how a good relationship looks. so in my opinion they shouldnt have ended up together anyways.but it was really sad that david had to die

This really pushed the “Live Fast and Die Young” theme. But, in the end, the realization of what love is, what love means, is the lesson learned. David instantly regretted his “ No one will ever own me” attitude. Hey, it’s a movie! Their acting skills were top notch! But, mom in the bathroom! WTF?
Here's a few more: Maurice (1987), Save Me (2008), Esteros (2016), The Thing About Harry ( 2020), Going Down in LaLa Land (2012). I know a bunch more as well but Maurice and Esteros are my absolute faves

One of the best 'coming of age'-gay themed movie ever made in my opinion. The casting of Felix Lefebvre for the role of Alex was spot on. Not only is he 'cute' as he is supposed to be, he plays physically every feeling with his expression, it's impossible not to believe him. The only flaw of this movie is the 'cross dressing' scene, it doesn't add anything to the story. ●●●●● 9/10
Excellent movie. I can usually keep it in mind that "it's just a movie", but this one pulled emotion out of me. Maybe it's because I went through the same thing, and I was from the class of '85. Young romances with pretty faced, yet free spirited individuals is something one should never invest too much into. It will likely be over as quickly as it started. I was the Alexi part and the ending was just as devastating. I was told through a friend that he never wanted to see or hear from me again. It comes from out of the blue, and rips at your soul. I learned to blame myself.
What a masterpiece! Ozon just knows how to talk through characters, music and emotion. The trailer teases a slight emphasis of the typical sad gay story, which I don't think this is. It's a perferctly curated story of love, freedom, relationships and human-ness. The quality of the movie took me by surprise - it's funny, emotional, provoking and yet beautifully presented in realistic french manner (which works so well). There will be never-seen-before moments in any movie which is what I applaude the director of the move for. Other movies (I'm looking at you 'Saltburn') have been heavily influenced by 'Summer of 85' (e.g. the character of Felix, grave-yward scene, utopian family of Felix, including mum's positiveness), another proof that this artistry leaves a profound effect on your as a viewer.

Can anyone tell me who watched this movie and understand everything why David said Alex bored him? I just understand that he doesn't want to be in a serious relationship but he was completely fallen for Alex his eyes always says he adored him and love him so much but why he said that that really hurt I watched the movie without understanding but it feels like David was forcing himself to say harsh words to Alex plz someone enlighten me😭😭😭
Personally it can be interpreted in two ways. Firstly I think he said that bc he wanted to sever his connection w/ Alex completely after Alex said he wanted to end it, like the way he said that words can’t be taken back so he gave what Alex wanted in a harsh way so there would be no longing left, but also he didn’t want to be the one to be left behind. But he regrets this in the end that’s why he followed Alex afterwards. Another is there is just a bitter truth in what he said. Like what Kate said, Alex loved the idea of him but really don’t see him as he is and Alex couldn’t accept this part of David even when David already said and did what he’s been doing. As much as he liked Alex, he couldn’t commit and that’s true and he’s not ready to be in a monogamous relationship yet as he enjoys his youth. Alex just couldn’t see the reality of the situation and David’s flaws even if it’s there. I think both statements are somewhat true
I think like you. it's written in the book that David (Barry in the novel) was afraid of how he felt and was lying to himself so he acted like it didn't care. in my opinion, he was really in love with Alex (Hal) but didn't really know it yet, because before he always was in relationships that didn't count, that he didn't care about. and when Alex left, Davic realized how much he cared about him and went to catch him and explain him. that's why David 's mothers behaved to harshly with Alex : she thinks he's responsible of David's death, bc David went after Alex and took those risks that killed him for him.

I didn't understand very well the meaning of some points and I want to ask for your help. First of all, did David really love Alex or not? Second question: did Alex love David or not? Because Kate said Alex that he probably loved the David he created, and not the real one. And the last question is: why Alex, at the end of the movie, tries to approach that new guy? No david did not love alex, he was just having a summer fling..reason being he was sad broken after his father's dead...but whatever he was just a cheat ...and alex did love david ..purely from his heart...but it turned out david was not the person who he(alex) thought he was...ans to last question is 'maybe' not clear.
That’s open questions, with many possibilities, if David was trying to have a bit of fun, love and joy with a boy after the loss of his dad, maybe Alex was doing the same at the end after the loss of David. But there’s no clear answers.

I saw the movie yesterday ... a masterpiece but i have a problem... the plot is very similar from another french lgbt movie called "Jonas". SPOILER ALERT if u saw Jonas know that one of the main character dies and his bf grown up with a trauma . The movie were in the 90s era, two teens, the dead of one are very similar to Éte 85 ( maybe for me). Its not bad at all but c mon u know what i mean lol french lgbt movies are the shit! 😍

I didn't understand very well the meaning of some points and I want to ask for your help. First of all, did David really love Alex or not? Second question: did Alex love David or not? Because Kate said Alex that he probably loved the David he created, and not the real one. And the last question is: why Alex, at the end of the movie, tries to approach that new guy? Sorry for my bad English but I'm Italian. Thanks to anyone who will answer me.
No david did not love alex, he was just having a summer fling..reason being he was sad broken after his father's dead...but whatever he was just a cheat ...and alex did love david ..purely from his heart...but it turned out david was not the person who he(alex) thought he was...ans to last question is 'maybe' not clear.
That’s open questions, with many possibilities, if David was trying to have a bit of fun, love and joy with a boy after the loss of his dad, maybe Alex was doing the same at the end after the loss of David. But there’s no clear answers.
David loved alex and he realised that after their fight thats why he went after him ...(alex was different to him a person that he really love and appreciate).

I watched two LGBTs movies in a day and i prefer happiest season(2020) better than Été 85, because this movie was so not french but i am not alway a fan of happy ending just feel shame of alex and david the misunderstanding will never released. alex's feeling was so pure but the guy at final is more hotter
I saw the movie yesterday ... a masterpiece but i have a problem... the plot is very similar from another french lgbt movie called "Jonas". SPOILER ALERT
if u saw Jonas know that one of the main character dies and his bf grown up with a trauma . The movie were in the 90s era, two teens, the dead of one are very similar to Éte 85 ( maybe for me). Its not bad at all but c mon u know what i mean lol french lgbt movies are the shit! 😍
