Used to listen to these guys as a kid, it was only years later well into adulthood that the line "I'm a boatman, gee I'm sore; I came home without an 'oar" finally hit me! RIP Tommy
On one of their albums they did this tune, and the funniest part was when Tommy sang: "This old boatman went ashore / Spent his money on an oar..." You see, the word "oar" sounds more than a little like the word "whore" and the double entendre made the song take on a whole nuther meaning! This version of the song seems to have been a little watered down, though it's still good. But, man, when Tommy starts getting naughty in the nightclub act, they take it to another level.

What a gift..❤
I haven't found "Black was the color" lol! It's funny and skillfully entertaining as all their songs and acts are!
They were the greatest! Funny, extremely talented musicians. Please post more and thank you.
I learned the boatman song in grade school, I still know it 45 years latter....
Thank you so much for sharing these clips. I would love to be able to see all of their 1988-89 shows again.
I think the best part of watching these genius brothers is Dick's facial expressions as he watches Tommy. I can't get enough of watching them.
Boom boom - boom boom….
Not only were they funny, I enjoyed their music too. They have done some serious songs -- and they are as good as any folk singers.
Better.
Wish tv was like this again
Pretty good rendition of an old minstrel tune!

Do you where I can find that version? I'm an amateur banjo player and i love the idea of having a little comedy in a song
