  • In part 11 of the frame design and build series I replace the removable 2" ball coupler with a Lock N Roll hitch. This is a big upgrade for off-road capability.

I've been using one of these for years and wouldn't tow off road without it. Just periodic lubrication with a messy 18ga needle or swap to zerk fittings. Black fingernail polish is great for touch ups

      It’s worked great so far!

@@infosponge Good For you! - But maintenance will keep it working great for a long time - you change the oil in your tow vehicle for the same reason

    Nice review.
I have always wanted to put one of those in. I take my trailer on some really off kilter trails and perpendicular crossing of V-shaped washes that I was sure were going to give me issues with my standard ball hitch. But miraculously no damage yet. The peace of mind from an articulating hitch would be nice.

Thanks! I have definitely driven through some whoops that had me concerned.

    What's the tailor weight limit?

Lock ‘N’ Roll is rated at 11,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 1100 pounds tongue weight. All units exceed the requirements of SAE standard J684 and are tested by independent labs.

I replaced my coupler hitch on my ATV wagon with a lock 'n roll to tow behind my SXS. Great articulation, and never a worry about it disconnecting! But as you mentioned, the one draw back is that unlike a ball coupler, there is no resistance at all preventing the trailer from just rolling all the way over on a rough trail. With the coupler, it at least resists right up until the point it pops off. Still, the trick is to NOT do that in the first place.
