Can you imagine the cost of rebuilding all this infrastructure in today’s money. As a previous commentator commented, such a shame they didn’t have the foresight to mothball the line in it’s entirety, as today the railroad would undoubtedly be a major attraction. Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to research and post this video, it is very appreciated.
Lovely nostalgic thought but sadly without reality.. Starter, how do you you mothball a railway, with all it's infrastructure, including stations and the like? Fact is, these lines like so many in UK never made a profit and a profit is needed to maintain them. This line from Plymouth might attract day out customers in summer and maybe some from the other end doing a bit of shopping in Plymouth. Not good enough to support a rail line. People still have to use the car to get to the station and pay for parking. What's the point of getting out and not continuing their journey by car? I, at the age of 85 are am as nostalgic as the next person but still have my feet rooted in reality.
at horrabridge i lived at the house just after the train comes over the bridge and into horrabridge station ,and we had an orchard in the garden and we threw apples to the guys on the engine.last train was supposed to leave tavistock new years eve 1962 but because of the infamous blizzard it didnt leave for sometime.
What a beautiful video. Even since this video was shot. Things have changed drastically. If only they had the foresight to mothball these lines , to open up if future opportunities arise. With roads as they are now in Devon and Cornwall and tourism at peak demand. These railways would have been well utilised now as the views were breathtaking. A big opportunity missed. Keep up the great content. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
When we first made the video, we had letters saying the same thing. While filming, we would get talking to the locals who gave us the correct pronunciation.

I am planning an update, it will be interesting to see how much it's changed. Also very sad I imagine.
Good to hear Launceston pronounced properly. Some people laugh at me when I say it.

I'd use the Yelverton to Tavi and Yelverton to Princetown. if it still existed.
