    Thanks. Looking at it I wasn't sure how to put the case together. I had one of these but it supposedly was a fake one and didn't have the metallic clock crystal. It broke but amazon refunded it even like 8 months from when I bought it because it was a fake and not what is shown in the pictures. Got the supposed real one with the clock crystal off aliexpress with the case. Case kinda sucks. My 3d printed one was better imo. I can see trying to test a surface mount component on the pads and it getting lose and stuck inside the case...

    I had the older version of this test device , somehow one of my students thru it out while cleaning up. So they are going to assemble their own as a class project and one for me

    The test IC socket receptor pins do wear out over time, buy two. I used mine fir 5 years and then added test lead clips.

    I watched this over a year ago. But, just finally got one of these dudes. This video was real helpful in getting it snapped together. Good job. I think it's gonna be a handy gadget to have in the ham shack. Could for building all these kits I have stacked up around here. 73.

    You can test capacitors with a fluke, maybe not yours.

    I've tried and tried to understand how to test a transistor with a diode mode voltmeter and it just confuses me to no end. So many people making different videos on how to test them then I read comments and people are telling the people who made the video they're wrong - I just don't know what to believe. I try to test transistors according to some videos and my test never happens like it does in videos. Is the video wrong? Is the transistor good / bad? I'm about to buy something like this because all of the electrical components / semiconductors out there a lot of people are selling are fakes so I wish I had something like this to help me determine if it's good or not. I've seen testers like this for sale and always wondered if they really work -- I think it's time for me to give in and buy a tester and lose some headaches. Thank you for the video - I enjoy your channel!

      Hi again! I received my tester today. I tested a 2SC2029 transistor I bought (new). It tested properly as an NPN. Thing is, I had put this transistor into a cb radio and the radio only did 1 watt output. (The schematics said 2SC2029 for this particular radio.) (I'm also aware of fake semiconductors being sold.) I replaced it with a different transistor and the radio does 5 watts output. So even though it tested ok, it was weak. Do you know if there a way with this tester if it you can tell if the transistor is weak or "strong" like it should be? I like the tester so far though, seems like a handy little tool!

      It's not a lab grade piece of equipment but it will give a reasonable idea of what the esr is with some degree of accuracy and repeatability that should be sufficient for a hobbyist

    Small point: It sickens me to see you putting parts with what appears to be tape residue on the ends into those testers!

      +tkarlmann it can be cleaned with either rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover(acetone) and a match stick, wrap a little tissue on the match stick wood side.

    Very clear video and I like the comparison. Any chance of doing a video explaining/comparing some less common transistors - JFETS, N Channel FETS etc.. I have a tester and some of these components and some have tested correctly as JFET and some as N Channel. I tested some J201 from China and one tests as jfet and rest as PNP although all market jfet?!?!

    • @SevenFortyOne

    Handy product especially for the price.
    I had to put velcro on the battery, the flopping around would have triggered my OCD.
    I also bought another more expensive model with a case and battery compartment for use at work while I keep this model for the home bench.

    can it make it on an onboard esr testing?The fact that it dont have a zero resistance button would cost on a reliable measurment with cables?

  • @PhoenixRevealed
    @PhoenixRevealed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Vf is the base to emitter drop, not emitter to collector. Knowing this value is useful for selecting the emitter resistor for a desired collector current in classic 3 and 4 resistor common-emitter amp circuits.

    It takes a pp3 9v but but what voltage range will it work with? Could I use a small rc lipo 3s (11.1v)? Or will it go pop

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know for sure. You could look at it one of two ways...1. just run a 9v as intended to be conservative. 2. These are cheap enough that if you do pop it in 11v you could just replace it.

    I like mine. I bought the same type, but mine didn't come with the case... I mounted it to a small piece of Masonite. The clear case is nice. The tester does have some limitations when testing some thyristors. I'm not sure of what range of capacitance & resistance it can test, no manual or documentation came with it.

    • @TeacherBrunoOneil

      it does, but dont rely only on its measurements.. they are not very accurate. it's more for identifying the pins and the components than for reading their values.

    Thanks for the demo. I just received one of these testers, which I ordered from Banggood.com. I think it was ~$12, it came with the clear plexi-glass case. For the money it works pretty good. These can also be "calibrated" by shorting all 3 test pins, and pressing the test button (you will need a capacitor for the test).

    Will be great to see how it's works with inductors, btw it shows voltage drop between ce, vs max voltage on c e on label of the tip42, of course vdrop depends on current, but it's good reference to know.

    • @jeffreydeutsch7336

      There is another version that has a frequency generator output and voltmeter input, in addition to the ZIF socket It also has a rotary encoder with a knob instead of the push button. I wish somebody would review that variant. I seems to have the most bells and whistles, there is,a case for it and it is still very cheap.
