    The red hand cranked machine that you were wondering about is a cream separator. It is missing a few of its parts. It spins the milk and used centrifugal force to divide the cream from the milk.

      thanks for the input i was wondering what that was too the crome things are for the old fashion gas cook stove they go on top of the burner to make the flame burn in a sircle

      How would you even know that???

    • @agoogler9251
      @agoogler9251 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's what it is. I can confirm. The parts go with it. The crank spins the centrifuge. What he thought was car lamps were parts for it as well. It would have had a big metal bowl on top to pour the milk in, and then the long things are stacked atop one another. One pours milk, the other cream. Voila! Farmers will use technology like that for ages. Dairy farmers know, as they will have had to clean the machine. Pain in the ass.

    The orange machine and those little funnel-type pieces and the thing with the spout look like pieces to something called a cream separator. There was a large tub that went on top of the unit and the funnel things were inside underneath. Milk, fresh from the cow, was poured into that tub. The handle is turned and as the milk worked it's way through the funnels (there are quite a few pieces missing) it separated the milk and the cream. There is a second spout which was either missing or laying around there somewhere. Milk would come out of one spout and cream out of the second spout. Apparently they milked cows.

    People used to plug extension leads into light fittings. In the early days of domestic electrical wiring people often didn't have sockets upstairs, some may not have had them at all. They might just have had a lighting circuit, to save money.

      This place has deteriorated over the years with people taking things & other people just throwing stuff around the floor. I know you can't do anything about the things that have been taken but how about a little restorative visiting? What about watching an earlier video, noting where things were, & going back & putting them as they were, as far as possible, because it looked a lot better.

    • @Mitch-Hendren
      @Mitch-Hendren 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sarah Strong when elecricity was first introduced in the uk, there was a tax on sockets. You were literally taxed on how many plug sockets you had. but not lights. my grans house was wired in the 1920s one socket in living room and one on the landing.. anything else was plugged into lights using a double adapter . this was in my lifetime I'm 54 and remember it like that.

    • @sarahstrong7174
      @sarahstrong7174 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mitch-Hendren I wonder why they charged a tax like that? Had they not developed a way of metering & charging for electricity used? Or was it sort of like V.A.T.?
      I suppose at first there were hardly any electrical appliances available anyway so people wouldn't have had much use for sockets. I have known properties that were rented out that untill quite recently only had one socket on the landing for the whole of upstairs. There were four or five extension leads from this socket to the bedrooms with tenants all trying to use everything from stereos to electric fires you can imagine how often the fuses were going bang. Really surprising that these houses didn't go up in smoke actually but none of the ones I knew personally actually did.

    These old houses were amazing... They lasted for centuries...
    Today's "cookie cutter" houses may last, if your lucky, a decade or two...
    You know, they say, "if walls could talk..."
    The walls *CAN* "talk"... You just need to know how to "listen"...
    If you were to make an hour long video of that house and the stuff inside... I could probably put together an entire story of the inhabitants there...
    Nice find...

      @PreservationEnthusiast 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tmcgee1614 It's kind of an art form. We can create a rich tapestry of changing decay for successive explorers to visit and photograph. The human mind responds to change. If everything is substantially the same we become numb to the images. So NWUS groups are orchestrators of the evolution of decay. Abandoned sites are simply the canvas.

    I also noticed next to the castor oil bottle, there was a bottle of stuff called Liniment. That is an odorous liquid used to relieve joint and muscle aches and pains just like BenGay or creams of that type nowadays.. It used to also come in a cream colored runny lotion. My parents used to have liniment when I was a kid. I think even veterinarians used it for treating horses with strained muscles, etc.

    • @rudafruu
      @rudafruu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some vets sold smaller bottles of it to people, for family use. I remember my parents having it on hand. I'm pretty sure it was just informally called what it was, horse liniment! The smell was out of this world. I remember growing pains so bad that we could hardly get out of the bed to go visit the doctor, who told my parents to use the same stuff. That stuff smelled so vile, and stung, too; we would have to be rendered almost immobile by the pains for our mother to get it near us.

    What a great find. So glad you shared this wonderful old home in your video. Love seeing all the old wooden antique furniture. I would love to have them in my own home as is, although I'd probably clean them up a bit with a soft brush. I rather like the old scratched up faded patina.

You always are ready. You just sit there in the dark quietly and wait. If they come in, well let your imagination run.
