    Diversity in cover crops - is mixing grasses, forbs and legumes (warm and cold season varieties) which do not compete for nutrients like a single species will (all grass, etc).
    Most farmland today needs deeper rooting, tap rooting types, to smash compaction layers.
    Weeds have an important message to convey, successional species.
    8-16 way CC mixes are currently Regenerative Agriculture's best advice.
    It isn't 'expensive' because these mixes can almost guarantee no industrial fertilisers are needed for the cash crop (esp. in the future).
    CC best removed with herbivores, eaten and deposited.

    Diversity in cover crops is the most important thing if you are trying to improve soil funtction, period. You need species from at least 4 different plant families for the most success.

    Surely slugs become more of a problem not less?
