    Hi there! THANK YOU for doing this comparison video! Putting this together would have been A LOT of work so we all really, really appreciate you doing this! Seriously... time is precious & I’m ever so grateful to people who so generously give of their time to make YT videos for us all. This comparison vid is EXACTLY what I needed to help me make sense of all these different additions to the alcohol ink families. Your vids are well organized, full of extremely useful info & your voice is easy to listen to. Again...thank you so very much! 🙏😊

    • @SerenaHannahStudio

      Thanks! Modelling film is a hard, non-porous substrate that you can actually wipe clean with blending solution (unlike Yupo, which stains). You can sometimes find it at Stampers Anonymous!

      I have both the Pinata Brass and Pinata Gold - been making up ink swatches so everything is still out on my desk. Currently sitting here looking at them and the gold really is a gold akin to an Inca Gold - what I would call a true rich gold. The brass IS subtly different - it's less yellow and is more towards a slight tinge of rose gold. A true brass and looks just like freshly polished brass does - without being brash. I think you could use both and not feel you'd wasted your money by getting both of them

    Great video, thank you. What kind of black paper are you using?

  • @TodaysSpecialMinis
    @TodaysSpecialMinis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting. All of the colors look so dull that you can't really see any brilliance in any of them. You showed them in the light, but it was just too fast to really see. Also - the variance of the amount of product you put on each sample also effected the outcome. Sometimes you added more of one brand than the other or more of an additive in one brand over another. The only thing I could really determine is that the Ranger line really moves beautifully vs. the Pinata brand. It seemed like you used up some of the bottles doing this test - that's an expensive test. But worth watching - I had no idea Ranger had 6 metallics so that was cool to learn. And I like the large bottles of the Pinata - just not the way they move on the paper. They seem very heavy. Wish the Rangers would come in those large bottles. And I hope you were able to use all those swatches in some type of project after.

    • @SerenaHannahStudio
      @SerenaHannahStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Today's Special Minis Thanks for your extensive, detailed feedback; it's much appreciated and used to make subsequent videos better. To be honest, on their own or in small-scale like the swatches presented, they really don't show off their brilliance the best. They shine most in large pieces mixed in among lots of Alcohol Ink colors. On their own they appear dull and almost matte. I always have to strike a balance between showing product properties and test results, and not showing them for so long that the viewer gets bored or irritated, and I'm definitely fine-tuning that balance as time goes on and I receive more feedback like yours. I do try to keep amounts consistent, but it's difficult shy of using syringes to measure exact amounts for this type of project with so many samples and you're right, it does get pretty expensive and this video alone cost me quite a bit to make (they all do to be honest). Believe it or not, the Pinata (particularly the Gold) metallics tend to be the ones most preferred by users because they're shiny and break up well among the inks. I often hang onto the swatches for reference later.

    Thank you for this! I've been wondering which metallic inks I should buy. Would you say that pinata sits on top better than the ranger?

    • @SerenaHannahStudio
      @SerenaHannahStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Candice L Collins I’m not sure if it’s that it sits on top better so much as Pinata is more shimmery and luminescent, and so the metallics hold their own against the ink better than the Rangers, which fade and blend into the inks more so don’t seem as visible.

    • @SerenaHannahStudio
      @SerenaHannahStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      @khromecowgirl57 I do! I like them a lot, but they do not behave like metallics and I learned at the factory in New Jersey that they are better used to embellish rather than incorporated.

  • @s.baxter3891
    @s.baxter3891 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I foolishly tried to mix the Ranger Pearl with a color of blue, it turned into a lumpy mess I don’t know why! Also, I notice that the Ranger silver stained the yupo so that I could not remove it with anything I tried. I was forced to cover it with a darker color.

    • @SerenaHannahStudio
      @SerenaHannahStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sandy Taylor I always recommend starting off with a small piece of scrap Yupo when getting familiar with a new Alcohol Ink product, especially the metallics as I find they can be challenging to use. I still find myself getting occasionally frustrated with them.

      @jessH090 I have noticed this as well. I learned when I attended the Ranger conference that it is intended to act as an accent to be painted on after to embellish rather than incorporated into the inks like the metallics are. Hope that helps!

      @laurieallen8762 Thank you for your feedback, constructive criticism is always most welcome. Personally I am not either but I use the voice I do in these videos are they are educational and my goal was to simply deliver the (sometimes dry) information without the distractions of additional words or inflection. In the videos I teach for the Alcohol Ink Art community I'm much more animated and infuse more of my personality, but then again those have a different goal.
