Nice to see Seiko coming out with affordable auto dress watches. Especially with all the inflation. We have gotten spoiled with the features and materials used in the micro brands like Islander, but that is not the norm in the market. 🙂🐶
These are neat, but for $50 more I can get an ISL-38 that is more in line with what I want. You may not have the same brand cache as Seiko (yet), but you still offer a better value.
Love em. Seikos been making presage and prospex more expensive, upping the brand with the inclusion of spring drive in the LX models... and yet, can still produce a beautiful watch on the most affordable end of the spectrum
Just bought the blue dial today. They look even better in person. I don't usually buy watches without researching them first, but when I saw this model in person, then saw the price (got mine for the equivalent of $195 USD), I bought it immediately.
Good job Seiko, the design and specs are perfect. One fatal flaw for me though, 41mm is oversized for a "dress" watch. That cheapens any dressy qualities it had. I'll stick with my Islander Isl-38, the dimensions on that are excellent.
They have this size and a 38mm size that they often play between. I have 2 Seiko Presage Zen Garden watches that have each of these sizes. Honestly, i think a 39-40mm would be best. But I favor the 38mm.
Very similar to an SRPA27 (black dial) I got last year. 4R35, display caseback, framed date... and only 1mm 'smaller.' I've been describing it as a "$150 Presage" since I got it!

For me the 100m water resistance is a very pleasant surprise… because isn’t 100m where dive watches begin? And for $300 that’s a huge benefit… you’d think they’d leave it at 50m and then bump it up to 100m with the Presage as a reason to maybe move up, so for me this was a very pleasant surprise… if I could have all me desires come true, they would also make a 38-39mm version that if possible, could also be thinner… but this is a home run in my books for sure 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Most modern dive watches are 200m to start. Additionally this is non screw down meaning the 100m of water resistance isn’t as solid as something with both a screw in case back and crown. However this is more than enough for everyday life
@@Goyxrd3 Right, you’re not scuba diving with this or any other 100m dive watch, but the point is if they can put 100m on the dial then like all other 100m diver watches, it meets the same criteria… if it didn’t, then it’s not 100m water resistant… and that’s the point… you have a sporty dress watch with dive watch specs for $300… the Royal Oak is 100m, the 5711 is 100m, the first Submariner was also just 100m… again, for $300 that’s pretty awesome…
I am sorry to burst some bubbles but Seiko did a "core" line in the past with the same specs but different style case and though I cannot speak to their retail price, I purchased 2 of them for $120 on Ebay (that was the asking price all over at the time). This was in maybe 2016 (SRP704, SRPA29) but the point is they came back with a model line and jacked up the price as they do now. I was so happy I bought the ones I did (as a gift) but the value was amazing at the time, especially during a sea of 7S movements because that was used in most affordable models.
its called the gray market, a few years ago Seiko watches could be found all over the internet selling for well below the MSRP. Hence why a few years ago Seiko took measures to combat the gray market and there watches being undervalued/devalued throughout the world market. For instant the MSRP ( manufacturer's suggested retail price) on the watches you mentioned... the SRP704 and SRPA29 are both suppose to sell for $395!! but because of how the gray market works, such watches were able to be found regularly on the gray market being sold new for well under retail price, ex. you getting 2 watches for less then the retail price of each watch.

So considering all things equal, it still reflects a price increase in the gray market, probably because the MSRP has gone up. So example where you would say the MSRP of the watches I mentioned were almost $400, similar watches now might have an MSRP of near $800. Directly affecting the gray market price. So even if we say it is because of gray market, even the gray market prices went up.
Great looking watch and nice to see Seiko releasing more at the affordable end of the range. I'm certain this will be nicer than a Bambino, which has a bit of a budget feel to it. I'll be interested to see how it compares to the SNKL23 (which I notice you guys still have available). The SNKL punches way outside its price bracket and this looks like Seiko's update for the lower end of their range.

Hi Mark, One of your English fans here, I wondered if you could shed some light on a Seiko i purchased at a Auction. I paid around £120.00 for with the premium on top. it is JDM 4R36-00A0 Case Diameter 40mm Sapphire crystal, solid end links, Hacking & winding .As far as i can tell it was made in 2012 and is called a Presage , Did they make them that far back . Also has a gold tone bezel with faint gold tone on the bracelet. The bracelet looks good quality for seiko. I Appreciate your busy and may not be able to answer. Great new offers from Seiko. When it comes to affordability, I think the SNKL 23 can hold its own. Remember, this was the model Hodinkee reviewed as the $75 watch that looks like $1M back in 2015. I was fortunate to get one a few months ago for around $82. Looking forward to more of your reviews. More power and God bless!

This looks like Seiko's alternative to the Tissot Gentleman series. A bit large for the current market trend of down-sizing, though. I'd take a Brookville instead.
This looks almost exactly like my titanium SUR373, except the SRPH's are just a tad bigger. Styling though, it's spot on. The only difference I can see is the SUR373 has double indices at 3, 6 and 9- not just 12 as shown here. Nice looking watch!
In my opinion it looks like the SRPH85K1 is better in almost every way except it’s lacking lume so not sure if for that reason alone the SNK355 is a better buy?

Hi Marc, a little constructive criticism on your videos. I've noticed that the sound level is lower since you moved to the new place. I used to watch on volume level 14 and now have to turn up to 20. Also the sound at the beginning while you're standind facing the camera is lower with some slight echo or muffled sound. Still love the vids. Please don't forget to mention price. Thanks!!!
Nice one - but I also have a Seiko dress watch that is not Presage with 4R35 movement that is very similar to this one: SRPA27K1 It is 42mm so slightly bigger and with leather strap.
The obvious first: too big, too thick (particularly with that slab-sided case). Seiko, please make it 38/10. Also, not a fan of date window on dress watches. Having said that, that green dial would look good in the combination with the two-tone bracelet and gold plated bezel. I mean if you are going for that 55+ look, why stop half way? 🙃

@@islandwatch I'm only working from experience with other high-polish hands/indices + dark dial watches, they always give me trouble with legibility. Although it's entirely possible that Seiko used some sort of Seiko magic to fix that somehow, I'll take your word that it's not too hard to read at a glance

It's not solid links - I can see the "seams" on the sides of the bracelet. It's the same as on the regular Seiko 5 SRPD's. I can't believe Seiko still gets away with this stuff in 2022. I can easily understand pressed clasps and hollow endlinks at 300bucks, but not hollow links troughout the whole bracelet.
I was disappointed when I got the SRPE60 and saw those links. I do love the watch and it is comfortable. I bought my wife the ladies version, and she managed to scratch through the plating in no time. THAT did annoy me. I think she was resting her arm on her purse.
The white dial (to match the date window) punches way above its price point. The last time I remember a Seiko watch doing this was the SNKL45 and SNKL41 (which have the advantage of being smaller). Where this new watch beats the SNKL4, is that the old watch is clearly a Seiko 5 (big 5 on the dial), this new one is a stealth presage! Thanks for sharing them with us.
Not a mistake at all. It's a well-established economic principle called "Price Discrimination." You take what is essentially the same product and sell it at two different price points. The result is a higher level of sales and profit than if you sold just one or the other.
This new line could have been a worthy successor for me to the old Seiko 5 dress line, but the cases on these, at over 41mm in diameter, are 1mm wider than the largest of the 3-hand Presages. Too big for me. 38mm would have been a winner. This sizing puts them in the camp as the earlier JDM Presage models in the SARY line, which have been discontinued. This line would have killed at 38mm. Not for me at 41.5mm.
Lume should have been included. If a $100 Seiko5 can offer it this should have it for $300. I know it’s a dress watch but Seiko is known for great lume and this should have had it.

Amazing value, unless you consider that the Orient Bambino gives you almost all that, at around half the price.
I have a Bambino and love it. Just remember don’t go near water, it’s only 30 meter. This Seiko is 100 meter, great for everyday activities.
Nah, the Bambino doesn't have the sleek, classic looks of these guys. They are, possibly, half the price, but it shows when you hold them together.
I own a few Bambinos, but a different look (in my opinion).
Completely different design, not comparable. Orient is a better value-for-money nowadays, but these new Seikos are sweet.

Despite the exposure problems with the new equipment, the image quality has improved a lot.
Those dark ones have lovely dials but they'll be impossible to read in anything other than the most specific of lighting conditions

Not a mistake at all. It's a well-established economic principle called "Price Discrimination." You take what is essentially the same product and sell it at two different price points. The result is a higher level of sales and profit than if you sold just one or the other.
This new line could have been a worthy successor for me to the old Seiko 5 dress line, but the cases on these, at over 41mm in diameter, are 1mm wider than the largest of the 3-hand Presages. Too big for me. 38mm would have been a winner. This sizing puts them in the camp as the earlier JDM Presage models in the SARY line, which have been discontinued. This line would have killed at 38mm. Not for me at 41.5mm.

Is Seiko raised on the dial or printed?
Lume should have been included. If a $100 Seiko5 can offer it this should have it for $300. I know it’s a dress watch but Seiko is known for great lume and this should have had it.
