- I was heartbroken to hear of Dexter Romweber's passing earlier this year. He was a legendary presence on the regional scene and I was honored to play on bills with Flat Duo Jets. Dex and Crow were both very down-to-Earth guys! I got to hang with him once again at the Star Bar about a decade ago and he was still very nice and easy to talk with. I don't know the history of this amazing tape; it sounds like it was assembled from different sources and I assumed that Dex had compiled it until I noticed that his name was mis-spelled on the recycled tape cassette. I didn't obsess over the quality on this one as every song sounds different and I doubt that Dex would have cared anyway. This is a fantastic hour of music that showcases Dex's many talents: rockabilly singer, ballad crooner and talented guitarist and pianist. The fidelity is a mixed bag, but I think the tape is very entertaining overall. Hope you enjoy it!
You can say that again!!!
Hell yeah!

THANK YOU for posting this! What you have here is a **very important piece** of Dex/Chapel Hill history, all fidelity/speed issues aside. Most of these tracks do not exist elsewhere. Do you have a way to make a high bitrate archival copy for posterity?
Thank you! Yes, I could make a high bitrate copy. I actually corrected the speed on the first track as the tape runs much too fast - I lowered the speed until the guitar was in tune. I boosted the mids and adjusted the volume levels to make them more consistent. On the tape, some tracks are very loud and others are very quiet. Then I ran my DAW noise reduction to bring down the background noise level as it was very loud. I didn't do an individual mastering on each track, so there is probably room for improvement if someone wants to take the time to do that.
@@Ted_Selke You did a fantastic job. I love the sound of this.
@@jude999 Thank you so much!!!
