Great video! Thanks for sharing! These C&P exam videos are extremeley helpful for setting expectations and understanding what's going to take place upon arrival. Thank you!
Leah thank you for writing my LOA and DBQ. Today I found out I won GERD 60% secondary to mental health. Thank you for your Military Service and helping Veterans.
That is fantastic news! Thank you for trusting me to assist you and congrats! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you in the future.
Thank you for the explanation. I put in a claim for Esinofilic esophagitis through the DAV and it showed hernia on the claim. Makes sense now. My C&P examiner was extremely kind and thanked me for my service. Saying we were the reason she was able to lead a free life. That was about two weeks ago. Still waiting on the VA to make a determination. I have been receiving treatment from the VA since getting off active duty 16 years ago. Diagnosed a month after service. I retired after 23 years 10 active and 13 Guard.
@@prestigeveteranmedical It came back denied, when I looked into it with the DAV it stated denied based on no treatment for some type of irritable bowel syndrome. Obviously someone along the line screwed up. The higher level reviewer determined there was a mistake and needed further information to make a decision. I’m going on 6 months with the higher review. I assume they are pulling more records from the VA medical side.
Thank you for your videos. I am having a second round of C&P exams next week after filing a Supplemental Claim. After a lengthy wait with a FOIA request for the initial C&P exam records, I was beyond disbelief. The examiner literally did not have me disrobe whatsoever, barely touched me, and only on my right shoulder. He never measured anything except the right shoulder. He concluded that my feet, ankles, knees, hips, back and GERD were not service connected, and submitted findings for all the DBQs that he never even did. He spoke the entire time about his daughter becoming a nurse, as I am currently a nurse myself. I have evidence throughout my service records of ankle and knee issues, and also of GERD. I already am service connected for Left ankle traumatic arthritis with antalgic gait which they medically discharged me for!! I am praying the Nurse Practitioner with 5yrs experience they have me set up with listens to me and actually examines me. I cannot even pronounce her name, so my anxiety is she is a VA ringer that will find everything for them.
I also have a question. My VSO advised me to file for GERD, as I have it in my service records already, and easily fit the 30% criteria after three decades of medical tests, images, treatments and medications. I have also been diagnosed by civilian doctors for at least 15yrs with IBS- constipation/diarrhea, which is a presumptive illness with Gulf War Syndrome. I was there, qualified and VA documented. My VSO said that the VA just lumps GERD and IBS under Gastrointestinal Disorders and so going for IBS along with GERD isn't relevant or necessary. Is this so?
I am sorry to hear this sir. I can't really advise you on the rating criteria as I am not a legal professional. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for watching
I am sorry to hear this. There are really no C&P exams that would ever require a veteran to disrobe except potentially ones that have genital examinations and even then the veteran can decline. Thank you for watching

I went in for 3 claims that got combine, Headaches(increase), ED, lower back (increase). I got my increase for headaches. But ED and Lower Back got deferred, I had my lower back C&P exam 3 weeks before this happen. I got an phone call to have another C&P exam for GRED, which I never applied for. I am still confused why? Hey Leah, I plan to file gerd secondary to a back condition which led to obesity due to limited mobility. Have you seen success with this type of claim?
I am in the process of claiming Major Depressive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder, GERD and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. I had my first C n P for Gerd and EoE. The appt was only 10-15 mins. She told me that she found in my military medical records and stated it is service connected. Was this too fast? My 2nd C n P is next week for Mental Health (that’s also in my military medical records).
Hi Leah, how common are barium swallows during C&P exam? I had one done years ago during a C&P exam. The doctor did not find any evidence of GERD so I was denied despite being diagnosed in service and prescribed medication.
Kind of worried I wasn’t asked about gerd at all in my exam today and it was not officially diagnosed in service besides being given medication that treats gerd
What is considered considerable impairment of health? I have every symptom checked on C and P exam and have been on meds for it for a long time but still rated 10%. They did not check any box for considerable impairment of health. Is this a opinion based question?
I had a terrible GERD exam and just got my rating. I only got 10% but I feel it should have been higher. Are GERD and Eosinophilic esophagitis rated separately?

Hello. I am currently active duty and will be separating this December. Is there a certain time frame of which I should start the process for obtaining GERD disability? I’ve been diagnosed with GERD and have been on multiple medications for it for the last 2 years.
Hey sir! You should be doing the Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) program as part of the Soldier For Life (if you are Army this used to be ACAP) process. You will be able to work with a VSO and start your initial claim but this doesn't typically start until 6 months out from separation.
I just had a GERD/IBS exam yesterday 11-28-2022, they took blood from me before we went over the DBQ. This was a supplemental claim, and as of this morning my Ebenefits page updated from saying supplemental claim for compensation to appeal for compensation. Is this normal??
Hey there. As far as the update on Ebenefits that is not something I would be able to answer unfortunately. You could always call the VA and ask of course.
I was denied for GERD as secondary to PTSD- the examiner put I don't take medication that causes Gerd like antidepressants. So I sent in a Supplemental listing all the 4 antidepressants I've take in the past through the VA and I was just given a new antidepressant a month after that decision so I also added that one. I was diagnosed with Gerd and take medication for it through the VA. So hopefully it gets connected now
Milk of Magnesia will make it "better." But while all linings are coated up, you get little nuitrion from foods. Eat - excrete. Skips the nuitrion intermediate part .

2004 weight gain started, injuries got worse
2014 finally went to get VA ordered Barium swallow that confirmed Hiatal Hernia. reached 247 lbs, BMI of 31
April 2024 Gastro Intestinal Dr did Endoscopy and gave great IMO/nexus letter, diagnosed hiatal hernia, esophageal stricture/GERD with weight gain aggravated my service connected musculoskeletal injuries as an intermediate step. Made claim for Hiatal hernia, GERD, esophageal stricture with obesity as intermediate step, current weight 222 lbs, overweight BMI 27.9
Sep 12, 2024 denied, C&P examiner opined my fat ass was due to stuffing my face and not service connected musculoskeletal issues since I was able to lost 25 lbs in the last 10 years.
How do I argue with that? Do I have to stay obese to get it granted? I am still overweight, BMI was 31 (2014) now 27.9.
I am sorry to hear that. It is hard because you lost weight somehow so you may need to explain how you are overweight/obese related to those issues but still able to lose weight. if you would like to discuss further, please contact us at info@prestigeveteranmctx.com
Hi Leah, I have been scheduled for a gerd c&p exam next 6/27/2022 in the morning. Do you recommend to review the DBQ for gerd before appointment? or any other recommendation. Please advise.
Hi sir this is totally a personal choice and one you should discuss with your VSO or whomever is assisting you in the process
