    Random thought: Isn't it strange that Mando has no idea what a Jedi is, despite them being Generals in the Clone Wars, and handing the Mandalorian's their greatest historical defeat? Yet, for some reason, he decided to randomly learn Tusken Raider history, customs, and language.

    • @kylo-benshapiro687
      @kylo-benshapiro687 4 ปีที่แล้ว +101

      I thought the show was being smart about him not knowing much about tuskans because when he first meet them he uses a sign language that could possibly be universal used but later on he explicitly speaks their language and knows there customs so nevemind.

    • @The-Real-JD
      @The-Real-JD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      If the headquarter was in Tatooine (I don't remember season 1) then it makes sense learning Tusken because in tatooine you will run into them and it's better being able to speak to them to strike a deal instead of fighting them every time .. But that depends if he spend a lot of time in Tatooine or not

    • @allmensland2106
      @allmensland2106 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      In lore Mandalorians and Tuskens have *some* history, though that’s still a bit of a stretch (which could again be excused since he doesn’t really come off as ‘bilingual’ or fluent in Tusken stuff from what I recall). Also in the new canon, creamy Sheev did his best to erase every trace of the Jedi (though you’d reckon someone raised by Mandalorian extremists would know about the lads that put their nutsack on his whole group’s forehead but eh)

    • @mihaisfira7612
      @mihaisfira7612 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      They don't care at all to explore mandalorian culture.Mando is apparently part of a super religious sect,but bone of that is explored.I guess the writers expect you to have seen all the show and read all the books.Now call me crazy,but I think a show about a mandalorian would be a great opportunity to explore/explain some of this stuff at leas a bit.

    • @lynnusuk2092
      @lynnusuk2092 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That could be because he’s part of the extremist zealots and the armorer wanted them to have only enough information to operate but not enough to make her obsolete, having a cult like mentality with all of them. The conflict would be mando pondering between is she just a pragmatic leader that was just using the mandos under her by keeping them all intentionally uninformed for greater control or some sort of mother figure to him but is it because she deserves the title or just because of the Stockholm syndrome he has. Too bad they didn’t explore it

      The lack of self awareness is staggering.
      And as a rule, one of the worst failures of writing a character is when you write someone to be intimidating and menacing, but it makes the audience laugh.
      Its like Chris Stuckmann's mick BvS scene that he wrote. I fully believe that when you are in a certain zone, you might find something sounds cool. But when you read it again, and get the context of what you wrote before said scene, it breaks and sounds not so good and sometimes just cringe.

    The emotion that a scene of Luke Skywalker at the height of his powers going up against a squad of combat droids evokes should not be _boredom_ . Yes, we want Luke to be nearly untouchable at that point in time, but it should be _despite_ the resistance he faces and the skill and efforts of his adversaries, not because the most threatening thing one of the killer droids does is put a hand on his shoulder like it's trying to stop him to ask if he's got a light.

    • @valentinegonsalves7322
      @valentinegonsalves7322 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      You nailed it.
      Luke Skywalker is awesome. But he's still a stupid ex-machina. Which is how 90% of conflict in this series resolves itself.
      All they have to add is one scene before this, in a previous episode, to set up the cameo. Boba Fett got two stingers before he entered.
      How about have Asoka Tano mention Baby Yoda and Mando to another contact person after they've left, at the end of that episode, to imply that word reaches Luke.
      Or have an X-Wing show up at the Jedi Temple after everyone has gone away, at the end of the previous episode, implying that Baby Yoda called through the force.
      You don't even have to show Luke Skywalker himself. Its suspenseful enough, given no one expected him to make an appearance this series anyway.
      Just set it up. So that it at least has at least a little more impact than it did. Fan service can be done well if you take the time.

    • @Dootnd
      @Dootnd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@valentinegonsalves7322 Technically the set up was Baby Yoda making the call, really anybody could have showed up, maybe even Mace Windu, cause fuck it why not, it all culminated into a ex-machina saving the day anyway.

    • @valentinegonsalves7322
      @valentinegonsalves7322 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yeah, but that's the thing. We're left to assume Baby Yoda reached out to someone through the force. We don't see anyone respond. Not even in a stinger. I'm not saying "show me Luke Skywalker straightaway".
      But, if they'd just left a stinger showing "someone unknown" was on their tail after Baby Yoda was on the stone and got taken, it would've made for a reveal with greater impact.
      We know there's "someone", we "assume it could be anyone" and then "holy shit, Luke Skywalker!" Just set it up.
      Instead we get, "What? Of course, they can't beat all the death Troopers. Oh look, someone else is here to save their ass. Oh look, Luke Skywalker."
      And then he just leaves. Not a single question asked. Jedi and Mandalorians have a history. They are all on an Empire ship. There's at least a few lines of dialogue missing about why Mando has Baby Yoda and why does he save him and help the Jedi... Just something... Nope, gotta go, thanks for my baby, bye, bye. Its nice to see Luke. Really, it is. But it feels hollow.

    • @Dootnd
      @Dootnd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@valentinegonsalves7322 Your assumption is that Baby Yoda reached out to somebody specific. But my understanding was, when you reach out into the force, it's like a whale calling out in the ocean, everyone who can pick up on it, feels him reaching out.
      Everything after Lukes reveal is written for the fans to revel in the moment and i very much doubt that this part will be actually looked bad upon ever, even thought the writing is consistently shit. Besides when Luke knows where Baby Yoda is thought the force, he could have gotten him way sooner, on his own. But then, there would not be that big goodbye with Mando and Baby Yoda...

    @Miyuki2319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    It's strange for Bo Katan to be really stuck up about legitimately winning the dark saber because of tradition. She was introduced by laughing at Mando taking the rules so seriously and has repeated moments of characterization as a morally grey and very ambitious person who will lie, cheat, and steal to accomplish their goals. What's so different now that she can't just take the sword and lie about it? I have a sneaking suspicion that the only thing that's different is the writers wanting more drama, so the script says she's a very honorable and traditional Mandalorian now. I realize that this complaint is a small drop in a very large ocean, but this is a character that has only been introduced this season and was hyped as being a big deal girl-Mando and they can't even keep her consistent for the two episodes she's in.

    It deeply saddens me that the TLJ lovers that said "You just want superheroes in Star Wars" seem to actually be correct for much of the fanbase.
    So, it seems there's actually three segments of fans. Those who want themes and depression, those who want lots of lightsabers and explosions and worship the rule of cool, and the few who want some goddamn good writing for once.

    A Mandalorian defender on another channel asked me to come up with my own story for Mando if I was so convinced the show was bad, but I had to keep Boba, Luke, Ahsoka, and Bo Katan in the show. Here's what I came up with in ten minutes.
    "First off make him competent and not an utter moron which the character of Din is. Spend almost the entire first Season with him solely doing his job. Working increasingly difficult and lucrative bounties which require him to hunt his quarry using investigative skills, and his natural abilities. This allows us to get used to the character. To said character's abilities. Their contacts and resources. It endears us to him. Then end the first season with the reveal of Baby Yoda during the job for the Empire. But change the fact that he's an infant to him being a Toddler. Which will allow Mando to better communicate with the child. For him to mold the child's values. For the child to express itself and show its own personality. Also don't half ass Mando's distrust of droids and certainly don't get rid of it for no damn good reason.
    After this first season have the start of the second season with Mando feeling called to protect this child who instinctively clings to him as a source of protection. You can do so much with the child being confused and hurt by Mando's refusal to show his face. Now Mando will have to cope with Bounty Hunters he had once considered friends and allies, coming after him. Have him spend much of the second season on the run developing new friendships and alliances in his efforts to keep the Jedi safe. He can at one point return to Mandalore seeking the protection of Bo Katan the new Mandalore herself. But when the child shows Force sensitivity in front of the Mandalorians it sparks a distrust in some that knew the history well of the Mandalorian Jedi wars of Millennia past. Wars that Mando himself knew about. Bo Katan would send him around the end of Season 2 to find Ahsoka, a former Jedi she knew. Season 3 would focus on him seeking out Ahsoka and Din trying to help the child through its confusion and fear over it's powers. We can find Ahsoka and even perhaps an older Ezra with her, travelling the galaxy and trying to do good. This can be when the Mandalorian first hands the child over to the Jedi. With the child clinging to the Mandalorian he now views as a father, tears in its eyes. And that can be when Din first takes off his mask in the entire series. A very impactful moment.
    Season 4 would focus on Mando's renewed journeys on his own. His struggles to find work given his new reputation as a traitor to the guild with a high bounty on his head. He seeks refuge in a small Tatooine community of moisture farmers for a time, now no longer wearing his helmet. Viewing his removal of his helmet in front of another, even a loved one, to be so shameful that he would refuse to don the helmet again. A bounty hunter eventually tracks him to this village. Boba Fett, who is seeking the money needed to begin again after his harrowing escape from the Sarlacc Pit. The two duel each other and fight to a near draw. When Boba gets the upper hand and is ready to deal a killing stroke. A child from the village that Mando had befriended however gets in the way, and Boba hesitates, deciding to spare the fellow Mandalorian. The two call a truce of sorts and Boba agrees to not turn Din in as a bounty on the condition that Din helps him retrieve his ship that had been stolen by a band of wannabe gangsters that has moved into the power vacuum Jabba had left after his death. Din and Boba together storm Jabba's Palace and each save each other's lives multiple times in the harrowing fight, leading to a growing bond as Mandalorians forged together by battle. The two take the Castle as their own after wiping out the smugglers. With Boba setting up a sort of bounty hunting enclave there. A source for new jobs for Din, his new battle brother.
    Season 5 would focus on Din going on Bounty Hunting missions initially when he hears of a huge bounty placed on all Jedi, and in particular Ahsoka Tano and her young charge, by the Imperial remnants. Knowing them to be in danger Din goes on a quest with the aid of Boba to find them. He eventually does probably around mid season and the two characters have an emotional reunion. Ahsoka and Din argue but she admits that her travels around the galaxy were ill suited for protecting the child. She advised that Din takes the child to the Academy Luke Skywalker had developed on the jungle world of Yavin IV. Din does so, but this time he does not leave the child. Boba returns to Tatooine but Din chooses to remain in the jungles. Living a subsistence life as a hunter. So he could remain close to protect the child should danger come.
    The season would end with an Imperial attack on Yavin and Din fighting to defend the child alongside Luke's Jedi Order. And after that you can take the show anywhere. Lucasfilm rushed a show that didn't need to be rushed. And as such combined with lazy and frankly shitty writers, the show was garbage. These general ideas I literally just came up with off the top of my head right now, coming up with various bits and borrowing some other small pieces from other sources. And I am a layman with no real experience in writing. But a passionate person with even a pinch of creativity can come up with a lot. Even in a short period of time. Given more I'd refine this further. Iron out any shaky bits. Consider what might need to be reworked. And add in specifics. But I consider this far better even as a plot outline draft, than what they did."

      If they’d have had the Ashoka episode first to give Mando the prophecy about tython from the beginning and then had him actively searching for it, they could have fixed so many problems with this season. Mando could have been actively seeking people out instead of stumbling in to them and not constantly looked like the sidekick in his own show. Make the imperials less cartoonish so there’s an actual threat, and the show becomes far more dramatic
      Which is what’s so maddening. The writing mistakes here as so blatantly obvious but there is no effort to address them.

      The reason Boba Fett works so well is because just like the Jedi, Mandalorians have a massive lore and interesting stuff you could do.
      Hell, if you take the EU, every faction has some or the other background that makes them interesting. And even the characters that don't, they have enough mystery built in to their development. For example, folks in prison that get drafted into a story. You don't always get their full backstory, but there's cool groundwork to imply why they are the way they are. Han Solo. All we know is he's a smuggler. We don't need what planet he's from and where he does his shopping and who gave him his pet name, and how many English girls he banged before Leia. @@estebanuranga8267 They didn't. The main character of the game they appeared in, Kyle Katarn, shut down the project before it could get off the ground to any real major degree. There were 3 'Phases' to the project, which in other words were just different stages of the project. Phase 1's were melee based test beds droids, Phase 2's were just bulky stormies with better weapons and probably better armor, and Phase 3's were the finished product, but only a handful were fought before the factory went up in flames (although the rest of the EU continued to show Dark Troopers very occasionally, so obviously not. The wonders of decentralized writing).
      As for how...I dunno. It was a....what, late 90's video game? That was nothing but a Doom clone. It never really received any real, straight adaptions or such so far as I'm aware, so we have no idea how Kyle, who at this point wasn't even vaguely trained or even know he was Force sensitive, nevermind have a saber, beat the things. Overwhelming firepower aimed at weakspots in the armor, I suppose. Nor did Dark Troopers ever really appear outside of video games or tabletop, actually, bar a singular comic that isn't very helpful. As much as the fanbase hypes them up, we have very, very little to go on with them, bar vague shit like them being out of the truly faptastic Phrik (you think Beskar is bad? Holy fuck, the old EU had some staggeringly stupid shit in it, but having a vault of Phrik survive the Death Star superlaser hitting Alderaan is one of the more memorable bits to me personally), the fact they were armed to the teeth, and had jetpacks and presumably other toys. But the mere fact they were beaten by somebody like Katarn with zero training bar his innate skills and instinctual Force mojo has always been a bit of an embarrassment for things that are functionally supposed to be Star Wars super soldier equivalents ala Spartans or Space Marines.

    I know the EFAP crew doesn't care for clone wars, but in regards to the "dark saber" when it was introduced it was just a lightsaber from the old republic stolen during the Mandalorian wars. It wasn't that special, wasn't called a dark saber, and certainly wasn't needed to be held or won by Mandalorian rulers. In Clone Wars Mandalore had been a peaceful world for ages, so this whole idea of claiming this lightsaber through combat clearly wasn't a thing for that period of time and there is no mention of it being what it is in The Mandalorian. The only thing close to this idea of the ruler wielding the saber is when Maul challenged and defeated the saber's owner Pre Vizla and claimed the saber, but even then it's not because of the saber that Maul became leader, it was because he was the stronger warrior, Mandalorians respect strength, which is why when he defeated their best they joined him. But even then not all Mandalorians followed him, in fact his victory divided the Mandalorians, and these anti-Maul Mandos definitely didn't care that he held the saber. By the way Bo Katarn was the one to lead the Mandos against Maul so why she would think she has to win the saber to never be questioned as leader is beyond me. Also if this saber was that important it would have been in the royal palace in the Duchess' hands, which it wasn't. Also the dark saber only became important in Rebels and now this show. I find it funny how they've added all this importance to a weapon that was introduced as just an old stolen lightsaber.

    • @mysite1012
      @mysite1012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

You’re telling me his eyes wouldn’t even light up just a little upon meeting a baby that looks just like Yoda?
      RotJ kinda went out of its way to show that Luke _wasn’t_ like the Jedi of old, so it feels incredibly off to see him acting like a stereotypically stoic Jedi; saying very little and barely even cracking a smile. Just like it’s also incredibly hard for me to believe that he’d see that this child (apparently) has such a connection to Mando that he’d be okay with permanently separating them just like that with hardly any discussion. Remember previously in the episode where blaster bolts did not work on the dark troopers. The first or second kill from Luke was him deflecting a blaster bolt back at one of them piercing its armor. Do the dark troopers have more powerful blasters and why would they have that?

    • @ouroboros5793
      @ouroboros5793 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Just to play devils advocate, why wouldn't they have stronger blasters? The same thing happens between B2 droids and Super Battle Droids; if there's a way to make a weapon better, it'll be done.
      The real question should be: *why were they outfitted with blasters that can destroy their own armor/casing?* That is what doesn't make sense.
      That could be answered: Simply because Jedi and deflecting blaster bolts hasn't been that much of a major issue, outside of a few outliers like Luke and Ashoka. Design-wise and financially, it wouldn't make sense to account for this. They were probably most likely already really expensive to manufacture.
      I'll also add, but not knock EFAP for it since it's non-movie info: Stormtrooper armor isn't really meant to be protective at all, just imposing and that decision was intentional to cut costs... since troopers were extremely replaceable under the empire, and no major faction existed that couldn't be quelled by sheer numbers, protecting soldiers wasn't a priority to Palpatine, the Moffs, or anyone really. The armor itself was cheap, and only kind of capable of withstanding glancing shots from blaster bolts unreliably. Basically just an outfit or uniform.
      The only thing they gain from the armor is reduced sight thanks to the small tinted visor, and Disney added that they have rebreathers... but only for gas.

    • @saerain
      @saerain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Presumably to get through shit like blast doors, heavy armor, and the odd beskar, I would guess. And when the Empire has crazy-ass weaponry I tend to assume it's kyber crystal stuff because of how they swept the galaxy for it to make the Death Star work.

    Girl Power against Boba Fett, the dark Saber is the deathly hallow wand, Leia was quicker to return to the ship than the dark troopers, the big bad Gus doesn't kill a single character, If Gus knew everything Mando was plotting, why didn't he shoot the ship knowing that it was a ruse, Yoda blood creates Palpatine clones perhaps, Luke didn't actually save them because they weren't in danger. Mando armor is Saber proof yet is refined by intense flame, the dark trooper didn't remove Mandos helmet with his free hand.
