You'll Soon See White on Traffic Lights - But Why?

  • Get ready to see some white lights joining the red, yellow, and green party on the traffic lights! It would signal to drivers of autonomous vehicles (AVs). The white light should help them manage the upcoming intersection of traffic flow intelligently. The thinking is that both traffic congestion levels and overall fuel consumption could be reduced. The cars and trucks that are driving themselves won't need to 'look' at the white traffic light, because they'll be communicating with it wirelessly. 🚦💡🌈

Except that Ai is real now. AGI will probably come next decade.
Quantum computers might be accessible in a few decades.
Lots of people will be losing their jobs. All that is not science fiction is already happening.
So yeah smart roads and self driving cars will be a thing in a few cities or parts of the world by 2050 (which this video is suggesting).
Flying cars are not a thing because the Anti gravity tech you see in movies is much much harder. But at least "Knight Rider" will most likely become a thing 😊🎉

@@madjunir We will probably need quantum computers before we can get to AGI. The is a huge leap between large scale language probability (what is currently being called AI) and AGI.
The job changes are mostly just a buggy whip issue. In much the same way that AI provides valuable assistance currently, we will adjust to the new tools as they become available. This will occur much the same way as we adjusted to cars, calculators, spreadsheets, electric light, written dictionaries (in no order whatsoever) and pretty much anything else you can thing of.

I love how some people and companies are like “by 2050 there will only be electric self driving cars”. There are people out there that have 100+ year old cars and still drive them, that’s not going to ever change. If anything, with the constant rise in automotive reliability, ownership of ‘classic cars’ may become even more prevalent. As an example, Brian Johnson the singer for AC/DC daily drives a 1929 Bentley he named “Thunder Guts”. Gasoline/Diesel powered non-autonomous vehicles will ALWAYS be around, and I’m really REALLY happy about that.

Actual green things emit or reflect the light in a wavelength that comes from the green part of the spectrum. So to all non-colorblind people that will be seen as green because it IS green., even if it's seen as if it were "white" to a colorblind person, while not being _actually_ white. For a non-colorblind person the white light has to come from the whole spectrum of visible light, unlike what it does for a colorblind person. So for the non-colorblind person the light that they're seeing as white is _actually_ white (even if it starts out as a mix of RGB). Big difference.

Not sure why we need a completely separate light to blink. Couldn't we have just used the existing yellow turn signal and make it blink?
For those that don't know or don't have these implemented yet, the blinking yellow turn signal is a "left turn yields" to oncoming traffic. Designed to enable cars to make a left turn when there is no traffic instead of sitting at a red "no left turn" signal for a few minutes until the light turns green again.

A double amber feature would be useful now, in order to give more notice that the lights were about to change. . .so the sequence would go thus...green to double amber, to single amber then red. Many accidents are caused by drivers 'running' the lights at present.

I saw a show about drones in this country in Africa. They also showed how ALL of the traffic lights had timers on/ beside the traffic lights. It would let you know how long until changing to next color. You can see it will turn green in x amount of seconds or turn yellow or red. They say people quit running red lights as much knowing they only had a couple of seconds. Seems simple and effective. USA should do it too.

We don't needlessly burn fuel while idling at a light if we use circles.
There isn't any traffic bunching up with circles, so there will be less waiting to pull out onto main roads from side/cross streets.
No need to run electric lines and pay for the electricity to operate those lights as well as constant maintenance and upgrading.
Also. Emergency vehicles will be able to travel to their destinations faster and safer.
