In 1888, Jack the Ripper committed a series of murders in the East End of London that shocked the world. The killings spawned hundreds of theories, books and films, each trying to solve the crimes which, to this day, remain a mystery.
The Jack the Ripper Museum, situated in a historic Victorian house in the heart of Whitechapel, tells the full story of the Jack the Ripper murders.
As you make your way up the stairs, you’ll see details of each murder recorded on the walls. The victims’ names, ages and murder locations are shown, along with newspaper reports and illustrations of the crimes.
As you explore the museum, you will discover everything there is to know about the lives of the victims, the main suspects in the murders, the police investigation and the daily life of those living in the east end of London in 1888. Once you have all the clues, will you be able to solve the mystery of Jack the Ripper?

What is needed is a museum with separate rooms each showing a recreation of the murder sites. The public interest will never cease - and most people want to see the locations as they were!

Whoever committed these crimes must have had an appearance which allowed him to blend in with the other inhabitants of Whitechapel. Otherwise, anyone in the area of his crimes would have definitely taken note of his presence and remembered him. That is why I rule out anyone of an upper class status. I think of Lechmere as a viable suspect. He lived and worked in the area. In fact, he walked to work during the wee predawn hours while it was still pitch dark, a time when fewer people were out and about - lessening the chance of being caught.

To me, it's always been Walter Sickert, the artist. Some of his work at this time was particularly gruesome.

I think that it could be a normal working class male who just blends into the background. With a psychotic personality. We will never know for certain, that’s the appeal of it.

JtR was Charles Allen Lechmere, a.k.a. Charles Cross, the man who is known to history as the one who "found" Polly Nichols' body while on his walk to work. There is a ridiculous amount of circumstantial evidence to suggest it was him. If you listen to the case against him, it's pretty compelling.

That's so interesting. It's strange that he is such a recent suspect considering he found the first of the canonical five (also his name and other killings from first glance research). We will definitely be reading about him further. Thanks and hope you enjoyed the content!

Don’t make a blanket statement like it’s fact. To be honest the Lechmere theory assumes a lot. There is not much in the way of character evidence, other than he was present at Ann Nichols murder scene. Lying is the other bit of evidence. There are other suspects with a much more violent profile that are also viable candidates. You believe what you want to believe, but don’t state it like it’s the gospel truth. It’s appearing more and more evident that we will never know the true culprit.
