They are both still clearly in love with each other. Al only left Diane because she gave him an ultimatum to either marry her or leave, despite the fact that she knew Al did not believe in the institution of marriage. Since then, Diane has said that she has always regretted giving Al that ultimatum because it would be better to have him as her life partner than not having him at all. I say they should reunite. My grandmother remarried in her early 70’s, and she and her husband enjoyed almost 20 years of a very happy marriage!
He's also a very good actor.

Because these are actors and they say anything to make an impression, and you don't really know if they really love each other.
I always felt like Pacino and De Niro were like full of themselves... the more I watch them the more I discover they're shy and the sweetest souls one will ever see in a lifetime. I know they aren't superior in value much less perfect, but it watching them gives me faith and hope in life, so I suppose that's a good thing.

De Niro isn't shy about his political views but, unless I just haven't been paying attention, Pacino seems to prefer to fly under the radar. The only gossipy item I heard was Al dating a woman 40 years younger than himself.

I believe Al was the great love of Diane's life because I saw her appearance on a show once...they were showing photos of her old boyfriends Warren Beatty, Woody Allen, and Al Pacino...when they got to Al's photo, Diane said, "I have nothing to say"...I think the breakup with Al really hurt her the most...You can see it in her eyes here, she still loves him......

In one interview, or maybe her book (I've read/seen so many I can't recall where any one tidbit is from anymore) she said that Al didn't want to get married but she pushed too hard for it and that was a huge factor in the break up. They both still loved each other, but Diane says she now regrets how she handled it.
Pacino's father was up to Wife #5 when he died. I think Al seeing his dad go through so many wives soured him on marriage.

@Sean D, Keep in mind that Al never believed in the institution of marriage because his father had been married 5 times, which “distanced” their relationship - and caused Al great pain as a child and as an adult. Diane knew this, and has always regretted giving Al the ultimatum to marry her or leave.

Al Pacino is just as good as him when it comes to acting if not better but when we talk about which one has the better movies, more iconic movie character, I'd give the edge to Pacino. In my mind, the word "forever" at the end is a kind of signal or code only shared between Diane and Al, they say it to each other once they want to admit to each other that they really absolutly love each other.
