In Salem, important to note Titutba was Native American, from the Caribbean. This makes the understanding of these witch trials as more akin to Maoist or Stalinist purges. Dark period in Massachusetts. Note that Massachusetts executed MANY people who did not fit into the conformist norm.
We kind of did! We knew we wanted to start at the Witch House so made our way there and then followed the line from there 😊 I believe you can just follow the line into town though - it’s a pretty short walk from the station!
From what we've read online, the line was due for a re-painting and the town took the opportunity to recognise that the term "red line" had a negative connotation, as redlining used to be a discriminatory practice that denied financial services based on things like race, ethnicity or demographic. So it's now been painted as a yellow/gold line!
please answer this... my wife and I wants to go here but we know around late september early october and so on is crazy busy. would it be safe to say early september we can at least see the town be halloween fall ish and see the folliage ?
We’ve only been in December but from what we’ve read it’s more likely to be decorated late September. That being said I think a lot of the locals decorate early September but the town wide stuff is more late September, but with that definitely comes the crowds. If you’re set on wanting to see Salem in full Halloween mode it would probably be best to go late September, but if you’re happy to just see the key sights with some minor potential for Halloween then early September should be fine 😊
I think the Salem Heritage Trail website explains it best: “Today, we recognize the phrase, “Red Line,” has a negative connotation and evokes a dark period in our history when redlining was a discriminatory practice that denied financial services to people based on race, ethnicity, or demographic. As a community that strives for inclusion, maintaining a component of our downtown that makes members of our community uncomfortable is not acceptable. In 2020 the City of Salem, Destination Salem and partners in the community began a strategic revisioning of the Salem Heritage Trail that will include repainting the line in a new color, removing references to “The Red Line” from publications and digital media, and developing inclusive interpretation of sites along the Salem Heritage Trail.”
Worst video on Salem on the Internet. You don’t even go inside the witch museum? And you share history that you read on the way to Salem from Boston on the train. Give me a break.
We’re travelling for 12 months on a strict budget, so unfortunately we can’t always do every activity in every city. We had read multiple reviews suggesting it wasn’t worth the money so we opted to give it a miss. Given we change cities every couple of days, it’s literally impossible to know everything about every city before we get there. We didn’t even plan on going to Salem (or Massachusetts for that matter) until literally less than a week before we went. At least we did look it up and still try to educate ourselves. I don’t think the timing of when we looked things up is really important at all.
@@GoForLaunchVideoshey I work at the Salem witch museum! And honestly you were right for skipping it, it’s not worth it. It’s a cool thing to do if you don’t mind spending the money, but it’s definitely over priced.

Great video! What time of the year were you there?
Almost a year to the date! Mid December 🎄
@ nice! We’re headed there in February 🥶🥶
Glad you enjoyed our beautiful seaport gem. Unless you like throngs of tourists, the bet time to visit is between April until mid-September.
We'd love to go back during that time some day! Thanks for watching!
Another Salem resident. Well done tour... BUT yes, do not come in October!
Thanks for watching!
As someone who grew up in Boston, it's funny to learn that people from other parts of the world don't recognize Canada geese 🤣
😂 I don’t know what it is about geese but we always seem to forget that they exist 😅
It is worth the entry fee and history.
It’s definitely on our list for next time we’re in Salem! 🤞🏼
Hi! Did you walk from the train station to the street following the yellow line too?
We kind of did! We knew we wanted to start at the Witch House so made our way there and then followed the line from there 😊 I believe you can just follow the line into town though - it’s a pretty short walk from the station!
Can you explain to why the red line is negative I don’t understand? What is the meaning behind this?

Woke fake offense.
That’s near my school Bates elementary five minutes away from there
Oo what a cool place to go to school!
Yeah, it’s really fun
What time was the first train out from Boston to Salem? Thanks in advance
Ahhh I’m sorry we don’t remember ☹️ if you plug it into google maps it should hopefully come up for you ☺️
You forgot the show the infamous Witch City Mall bathrooms!
Okay just googled this and wish that I didn’t 😂

@@GoForLaunchVideosyeah we are trying to avoid the crowd so we are wanting to go early sept
Salem resident here: Sept is fantastic (Essex heritage days!) Salem is great all summer as well.
There's no foliage until late September.
Can’t believe you got coffee and it wasn’t from Dunks! Blasphemy in Massachusetts! Otherwise loved the vid!
Oops!! We promise we’ll go to Dunks next time 😋 thank you for watching!
Definitely Geese they are from Canada they come in my state of Michigan beware they are crazy
I'm glad we didn't get too close 😅
@@GoForLaunchVideos Canadians call then 'Cobra Chickens'
They are Canada Geese.
What is discriminatory about a red line?

@@GoForLaunchVideos that is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. My goodness what is this world coming to.
Salem still has a negative connotation no matter what color you paint the line.
They were Canadian Geese, Not so much a big duck.. and aggressive when they have chicks.
Ahhh geese yes!! That makes much more sense 😄
