Nice work. Done a bunch of repairs like that. I always charged a premium if it had to be done on the equipment like that, it’s no joke hunching over/crawling around on the ground all day. Couple tips to help you out: if you didn’t preheat the plates to 200 to 300 degrees before the first root, do it if possible, it will help you a ton on getting it to wet out. Second, put toilet paper on that seat, you don’t want to catch crabs. 3rd if you haven’t run them try esab 7018 prime rods. I find they run real good start to finish, never have bad starts (they have a graphite tip to help starts) and in 5/32 size they get shit done. Glad you’re sharing videos like this, to few people are inspiring the next generation of welders/builders 😀👍
The other thing I like about you as a fellow welder is that you don't edit anything you are real world you show how it really is and how it really works truth is not pretty sometimes but I like that you don't pull punches with it it is what it is
The H-link needs rebuilt. With the shattering of it the work canot be guaranteed. Id had sold it as a saftey hazard and upsaled for the rebuild. Nice job though man. Looks good

A round-trip ticket for you to Australia still would likely make the replacement far less expensive than a new part from the manufacturer, and it would be a tax-deductible business expense.

It's tough finding good carbide bits these days. Even expensive ones don't see to bite like they used to or if they do they don't stay sharp long. Nice job on the repair. Your part is now the strongest parts of the arm.
Hey , I work in construction to, and I got metal in my eye a few times and what I use is a really strong magnet. My level has a really strong magnet and I clean that thing off and then I I just use that really close to my eye and it pulls it out every time, I learned that trick when I was in Aprentice many moons ago🤙🏽 keep up the good work
for what it's worth, that's also how they get forromagnetic flakes out of your eye at the doctor. just a strong magnet on a stick and some finnesse. this does ofcourse mean that if you manage to get something non magnettic in your eye like aluminium you're in more trouble.

And it would cost between 6 and 8 hundred dollars...🤢🤮 .... twice I did that. Then I learned about quick care. One hundred ten dollars....just saying. Happy welding man!

I had a hunks of metal in my eye and under my eye lid and had to get an MRI. I told them it was in there they took an xray and said I'm good and when they fired up that MRI i could feel that metal in my eye it started spinning and heating up but because it had been a few years it had rusted i felt it breakup and the lil peace's started spinning it felt like having lil compass needles spinning at extreme speeds in my face. As a welder/mech i feel my newer safety glasses have bounced more stuff into my eye than keeping stuff out. Metal will bounce off my cheek hit the glasses than go right into my eye 100% sucks. P.S I ordered a compact eye wash kit like you are using never knew that was a thing. I use qtips and super strong magnets to get shit out my eyes. The magnet trick goes back to ww2 for removing shrapnel from the eyes it can work fast. Good luck with the battle of the metal chips i find the safety glasses from 1970's that are huge with side blinders work the best other than a full mask. Have a good day or >>>>>GFY :0

hey man just my 2 cents invest in an air arc gouger or a gouging tip for the torch for those big cracks and use the die grinder for the fine tuning, much less burrs and a lot faster
About the getting metal in your eye- I took a normal pair of safety glasses and trimmed around the nose to fit the shape of the 3M respirator, and I wear those under my face shield.
MMA, I've been wondering why you're rolling with the Lincoln welder lately and not your Miller? Seems like the extra AC would be beneficial for your Hobart?
Anthony always if possible try and always back gouge or back grind cellulose rods out there loaded with hydrogen and I've seen time again crack coming from the root out
I have one of those Hercules grinders awesome little die grinder I like that it has the blower feature so that it keeps what's your cutting on clear those things are a beast especially with a double cut carbide bit cylinder with the ball end those bits cut real nice
My wife quit watching the video with me when you went in the porta- potty and she even runs two construction companies with one or two of those on every job site. Lol.

Idk if this is true but from what I been told countless times, H links on "most" excavators, are made of a wierd alloy that is extremely hard to repair and they are usually a cast steel piece so the nest solution is to fabricate a new one out of steel. Why bother with anything but 7018? I’m an Ironworker by trade, but I dabble in some heavy equipment repair when someone naggs me enough. In my mind I would have ran 7018 all the way through and wrapped all the inside corners and wouldn’t have thought twice. It’s a genuine question, like I said I’m 7018 95% of the time.

I understand the potential downsides of running flux cored wires. Curious as to why I don't see you run wire on mobile repairs like this and if you don't have a setup for it why? Just looking for an honest detailed answer from one welder to another.

And what's with the cussin and the dollar figure on everything?...... You seem to be overcompensating to convince real retired weld operators your a real hand?

Carbon Arc gouging and raise the job a little higher to make the work more comfortable.

Great repair, for a job like this pull out the suitcase and the needle gun to relief stress but not to much needle gun and work harden it.

I used 6010 or rock mounts tartan B depending on how much stress will be put on it. I whip both rods
