Folks from the past, present and future will compare Meac & Swag ... Preferably SU & FAMU... Which are obviously the Top Dogs in both conferences... However SU's Band is known for their style of Power & their Swing in Arrangements... And FAMU is known for their capability to keep their sound controlled. Musicianship, Articulation & Precision... I don't compare the 2 for the reason they do absolutely nothing Alike. So Congratulations SU your Arrangement of Black & Blues is the Best in the Swac Conference... And Congratulations FAMU because your Arrangement of Black & Blues is by far the best in the Meac Conference... See how u can give ah compliment without ah following insult
Dontravis Allen well when we first stop trying to critique bands and divide bands by football conferences then we will start to grasp the actual aspect of band. Just because they sound and do different things different doesn’t mean they play different instruments. Band is band. No matter what shape or form. That being said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But on another note, me personally I love SU.
that is the best i have ever heard black and blues played. this was 2005 at the JSU game in mumford. we played it in 02 and 03 but it never sounded like that!!! no disrespect to any year of the jukebox, but that was the best right there in my opinion. we killed JSU that year. Al Jarreau would be pleased if he heard this!!!
Is it just mean but this beat is sped up to fast. If you want to hear a black and blues by an hbcu that sounds awesome look up FAMU's version. No matter what year, it is all about the musicianship!!!
What im not understanding is how people say SU is trash because of their style. They put lots of hard workin into what they do and do it well everytime. SO... if you can say FAMU is good because of their musicianship and balance. Why cant SU be good because of their intensity and power. Everybody has their own style that makes them unique and good in their own ways. Stop arguing and goin nowhere fast.
Musical units (Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Count Basie Band, Dallas Wind Symphony, FAMU, SU, Earth Wind & Fire, etc.) has its own "sound". But the question is how well do you execute it...is it with good taste. Are the basic elements of music there--balance, blend, and intonation? Anybody can play loud, but can you do it with control & characteristic tone. That's where the musicianship comes in.
and yes vsu is a ciaa band and all the other stuff you may be thinking but when speaking of the arrangement it smashes all version out of the water the closest arrangement of black and blues that touching v states version is miles version and they got it from us and couldnt play it so they rewrote some of the parts and watered it down it does sound ok but nothing like vstates version
Loud don't mean it's good so if your saying SU arrangement is better because they are loud then your as simple as your ears. Do they have a good blacc and blue yes but not better then FAMU
Those trombones was hurtn until it was the Mello's turn. The mellos take center stage with this one. Collectively Southerns Brass section can not be touched.
This was in what they call the "5th" Quarter, which takes place after the game. Why else would there be random people instead of football players on the playing field.
@BassClefKilla i feel ya but man i aint gonne lie the first time i seen fam in person was when i crabbed at SU and i was like this is some bullshyt we up against and it was our homecoming at that loll but we dug deep and took it to em they underestimated us because word had spread thruout the band world that our band was mostly freshmen and it was true in 88 out of the 128 on the field 90 something was freshmen the whole season
I may be wrong but I dont think SU has had a more naturally powerful year than 05 every single section had heat.... Maybe 93 but then again 05 was pretty big...IDK
We had the only true bassline to this song. Everybody else arranged it like they were scared to go between the octaves. And FAMU's arrangement is not touching this. It sounds damn good but it's not touching this.
I agree totally. For some reason SU fans feel like loud is music. There is a big difference between noise and sound. Sound is appreciated, noise is irritating. One day they will learn about balance, precision and musicianship. Until then ignorance will continue to go into their musical arrangements
SU has a quality sound... But i don't think screaming thru every single song makes them the Best but they are One of them. That i can't dispute. But honestly Famu Black and Blues arrangement is 2013 times better. That don't sound to good but then they playin two different styles of music so i can Understand the back and forth between the two Bands. I like both bands so i can't pick one
I could, its pretty eazy FAMU all day & i'm a J.S.U fan!.......famu sound iz jus amazing, 2 hear a song & you'd think it was being written right then & there jus superb!
no disrespect to su by far one of my favorite bands however the arrangement is kinda bland now ofcourse su blew the hell out of it but it couldve been written a whole lot better. and famus version is even worse heres the funny part vsu version of black and blues will blow any version out of the water. i promise im not being byas because its my school
Damn is right. That was so clean.
One of my favorite songs...nobody plays it like the JUKEBOX.
Man FAMU and SU arrangement of black and blue go hard i can't say who has the best but i'm still riding with the 100

@@qcthadon I wasn't critiquing. I was simply stating the obvious. Without insulting either program. I like some Swac and some Meac.

thats 05......that was the last year they let people on the field for the 5th quarter...
This was in what they call the "5th" Quarter, which takes place after the game. Why else would there be random people instead of football players on the playing field.
after we play this song please dont try to play it back lol
@BassClefKilla i feel ya but man i aint gonne lie the first time i seen fam in person was when i crabbed at SU and i was like this is some bullshyt we up against and it was our homecoming at that loll but we dug deep and took it to em they underestimated us because word had spread thruout the band world that our band was mostly freshmen and it was true in 88 out of the 128 on the field 90 something was freshmen the whole season
