Think exactly like normal retail with customers wanting refunds on things that are not faulty ect. but add the fact that they know nothing about keeping pets and want us to agree with them when they are basically causing animal cruelty. Example; Mother: Can we have this fish please? Me: Sure, you have a tank already set up at home? Mother: No it's going in a bowl. Me: Oh sorry but fish can't actually live in bowls. Mother: I don't care it's just for my kid and they'll lose interest in about a week anyway. Me: Fish are still a living animal so I would not recommend getting one with the intention of letting it die. Mother: Look if you're not going to give me a fish I'd like to speak to the manager. Me: *head explodes* And I have oh so many more unfortunately -.-
The ONLY thing that's unrealistic in this show is how often Sean is allowed to stand up for himself and talk back to and challenge the customers. We're all expected to act like Gary flapping the toast around and exclaiming, "oh YES that is quite burnt!" You never know if the rude customer you're talking to is an actual psycho who will attack you because they imagined you were "rolling your eyes" while they screamed nonsense at you. Working in the 21st century "service industry" is the same as being a servant - we just don't work or live in rich people's houses anymore. We tell you whatever you want to hear, clean up your messes, cater to your whims, must be available whenever you want us, get treated like trash, and have no power to protect ourselves - we're reprimanded or punished when we try. Ugh, FUCK RETAIL.
The best part about working retail is when you get to clock out and your smile comes back. I swear to God one day I'm gonna clock out and never come back.

This show is absolutely brilliant & spot on. I have worked retail for nearly 14 years now. I always have customers like the toaster guy only with cell phones. Cell phones really bring out the stupid and crazy in people.
Nails the life of a retail worker on the head perfectly. The jokes ARE geared more towards we retail workers, because it is WE who deal with these same situations every single day. It's because we can relate, and can remember similar situations that have happened to us at our jobs, that we can laugh.
