    I stopped doing influencer workouts about 5 months ago. I now do sprinting three times a week at my local running track, and strength - a basic push/pull routine where I have built up the weight. And I walk a ton. I have had better results in five months than years of influencer workouts

    I lifted heavy for decades, did sprints and the stair climber. That did take a toll. Now at 48 I actually enjoy hiit/interval training. I still do a heavy Lower/Glute day and a heavy Full Body day. The other 3 days I do weighted Hiit/interval workouts. I do a mix between Heather Robertson, Caroline Grivan and my own. I have been doing this for about a year and it works well for me

    I love Caroline Girvan’s HIIT! Well programmed & throughout. Love her warm up as well! My fave is superset tabata HIIT (both body weights one & dumbbell one). She taught me how I really means “push maximum effort” with her EMOM. Thanks for reviewing others with your standpoints!

    Hi, I have done both older and more recent Grow with Jo videos. I find her enthusiasm entertaining and as someone said below, the workouts get you moving. But I am convinced there is absolutely no strategy behind the sequencing of the exercises. So I use her as more of a down day when I want to move but turn my brain off and give my body and a rest.

    • @JustinaErcole

      I kind of feel the same! Her workouts are for when I just want to get my body moving in some way. She seems like a lovely person but a lot of her moves just don’t make sense to me and aren’t effective at all. I see her as a wonderful place to start if you’re just getting into working out, but you probably won’t stay with her too long if you’re looking for something challenging.

    • @inspiredtoenrich

      Yes... I agree totally. Her "walking" videos are what I like to do on active rest days when it's too gross to walk outside. They are just fun, simple movement.

    I agree! The hiit-label doesn't really matter. I always make sure to get an idea about the intensity before I actually do the workout. Because, I'm a real cardio and lactic acid-junkie, and if I wasn't careful, I would be at risk of doing too much ACTUAL hiit some weeks. I really enjoy KayKay fitness and Sydney Cummings!

    I love Penny Barnshaw! I generally don’t like no repeat workouts so I typically steer clear of them, but Penny’s subscribers are always begging for no repeat workouts so she delivers! If no repeat is what it takes to get people moving, then I’m all for it! She has hundreds of workouts though so there is something for everyone! I think she’s the most underrated follow-along fitness TH-camr. I wish more people would give her a try! As someone who as done a lot of true HIIT workouts with Les Mills Grit, it also used to annoy me that people call every cardio workout HIIT! I’m over it now too though! 😆

    Loved this! As a CPT, I don’t even bother with HIIT anymore. UNLESS, I want to work on specific power moves, or do some SAQ training. For years, I thought it was the only cardio worth doing and I thought it was all high impact. A knee surgery later, this girl isn’t tuck jumping.
    Also, It’s funny, I used to do FitnessBlender EVERYTHING years ago. They got me into exercise but their calorie burn stuff used to paralyze me! I hate the calorie stuff. It’s so unnecessary and idk how they even calculate it. Cassie Ho said that every burpee burns 6 calories, and I think about that every time. This crap is trapped in my head!

    when i threw my back out a couple of months ago i was pretty much only on Grow with Jo, the 2 mile strength and 4 mile videos which definitely helped . Those videos served a purpose. In my opinion if you are well informed when it comes to fitness then you will be able to distinguish clickbait from videos that live up to their title and that tends to come with time and doing enough of these workouts to know who gets the go ahead and who doesn't

    I have done a few of Jo’s walking and dance workouts which I think are a lot of fun on days I don’t want to do a lot or if I need a quick warm up or cool down. Her stuff now is still a bit “click baitey” with burn up to 600 calories etc. but overall her goal is to get people up and moving and she’s got some great energy which I love. I just ignore the titles. However I did do one of her “Torch in 10” workouts just to try it (I’m a devote Sydney follower lol) and I said oh no this is not good. I felt the moves were too fast with weights and I had to stop because I thought I was going to hurt myself doing some of the squats because they were too fast paced and no real direction on how to properly do the squat. I linked the video below.

      I love growwithjo even as an avid strength exerciser. What I love about GWJ is how positive she is and SERIOUSLY gets you moving while also feeling good and secure in your body. Also Juice & Toya programs are WHAT IS UP. Literally almost identical to the programs I was given when I hired a personal trainer. They are so underrated and dope. Also Heather Robertson is amazing. Some workouts are way too much impact but she has sooo much content it's easy to find something that works for me.

Last year after trying some youtuber workouts i realized how majority of the workouts I was doing werent HIIT, either the intervals were too long with shorter rest periods for intensity of the workouts and the workouts were too long.
    I love Nactacha, shes the goat, I love doing her youtube and instagram HIIT workouts every other time. Caroline Girvains HIIT are a real deal, effective, super intense HIIT. I havent done any Jo's workouts because clickbait is a turn off, I just cant take that person serious.

    My problem with some hiit videos I have tried is although I am probably an intermediate level Exerciser, some videos I have done have put a bunch of Exercises that are difficult and impossible to work fast with and just not enjoyable. Like for example one minute it will tell me to do jumping jacks and the next push ups or something a lot more challenging and it’s just frustrating and feels like you can’t keep up and are never on the same level as the instructor.

    I did turbo fire intense cardio conditioning workouts. It's a 2010 beachbody product of Charlene Johnson. HIIT 20&25,Fire 30 is my go to, but also hiit15 when I'm not in the mood for anything longer. There are longer workouts Fire 40,45,55,core 20 sculpt 30+tone 30,stretch 40. All the fire and hitt have a 10m stretch included and cool down. I should start using these again seeing that i have no clue what I am doing with weights. But i love the no jumping around lifting weights does but not the going from standing to floor and visa versa exercises. Still trying to figure out a proper weight lifting program that i like. Been able to stick to sydney cummings but I'm not sure if i should continue. Took feb off of workouts alot going on in this mo. Need to refocus from march on workouts and studies.

    I have been doing Heather Robertson’s workouts for years. (I just finished Day 40 of her current 12-week challenge.) I think that her only “true” HIIT workouts are her Tabata workouts and some of the cardio finishers. But I’ve worked out for 45 min/5 days a week since the first of the year, and gained 2 pounds of muscle and a lot of strength and endurance. I kind of don’t care what she calls it.

    I've always thought that when we're able to incorporate HIIT workouts into our routine it means we've reached some kind of a milestone that we're stronger. At first i thought it's a must (one of it because there are sooo many HIIT workout videos out there). But watching your video really open my eyes about HIIT workouts and focusing more on doing workouts that we find enjoyable. So, thank you so much Justina!
    I do curious about full body strength workouts that's been around in TH-cam. I personally find it difficult to find that kind of workout that is beginner friendly and only use bodyweight (a lot of them are cardio). I only found a few and i haven't tried it actually. I'd be very happy if you can make a content (maybe a review) about it!
    And i found many of those full body no equipment strength workouts are mixed with cardio. If we want one day dedicated for a full body strength workout, do you think it can still be effective?

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! So in term of finding a bodyweight strength workout, you're going to be limited because you can only gain so much strength with bodyweight. But I would recommend checking out pilates. If you're open to using weights, I'd recommend either Charlee Atkins or Sydney Cummings. They both have great beginner series.
      For your second question, I'm not sure I quite understand. Is a no equipment cardio/relative strength workout effective? Or a full body strength workout effective? Either way, the answer totally depends on your goal.

    • @joytrovert6771
      @joytrovert6771 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustinaErcole omg thanks for the reccommendation!
      For the second question, sorry i wasn't very clear. So my goal currently is body recomposition thus i'm focusing on doing more strength workouts and i have one day for full body strength every week. Many of the full body strength workouts in TH-cam that are doable for me are mixed with cardio in one video. One of them is like one strength move, then one cardio move, and so on. So, i'm curious whether mixing strength (with and/or without equipment) and cardio in one session can also be as effective as strength-only workout for building muscle ??
      Or maybe mixing it together in one session is not a problem as long as we do more strength workout session than traditional cardio ??

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joytrovert6771 Body recomp (I'm assuming you want fat loss and muscle gain) is a tough goal. I typically recommend people choose one or the other because unless you're a beginner, it's very difficult to do. Regardless, I would recommend if you're only doing one strength session per week, make it strength. Don't add cardio alongside your lifts. Hope that helps!

You can adjust your nutrition by taking down your calories a bit OR replace a serving or two of carbs each day with veggies or protein instead. I feel like I was one of the few people who did Natacha Oceane’s HIIT instead of Chloe Ting 2 Week Shred in 2020 lol Natacha, YogaWithKassandra, & YogaWithAdriene were my faves back in a time where I was on the peak of MDD/GAD
    I rarely do HIIT anymore cause I have different goals now but I still enjoy doing them. Like you though I’d prefer dancing or walking than HIIT ☺️ love this video Justina!!

      Omg same here! Before the Chloe Ting I was doing HIIT from Fitnessblender and later with Natacha Oceane. Less clickbaity and just fun challenging workouts without the "hiit that burns 500cals" or "hiit for weight loss". Recently I have also stopped doing hiit that much and I have been doing more fun activities like dancing and walking along weights and yoga.

    Hey! Great video. I know you said Natacha Oceane's was the only one that was truly HIIT, but you never showed the HR for hers. Did you reach the intensity in HR or more like RPE? I'm just really curious because I use hers all the time. I have yet to be able to complete her advanced HIIT with no extra rest.

    You mention strategic programming a lot, and I was wondering what exactly you mean by that? Is it about hitting the main functional areas (for example, including all 3 planes), or is there something else involved? Thanks!

    • @JustinaErcole
      @JustinaErcole  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A huge part of any personal training certification is about exercise selection and programming. Specific programming gets you specific results. Random programming gets you random results. And the more education you receive as a trainer, the better you understand all of this. That's why it's typically pretty obvious when someone has just chosen random exercises and thrown them together. I have a lot of videos on programming if you're interested in learning more. Or a quick Google search will show you all the different styles of programming based on common goals. Hope that helps!

    Have tried a ton of Heather Robertson’s videos and she is a fave of mine. She was the first online trainer who helped me up my game. Grow with Jo… Have tried and not really a fan. Her dance videos are fun but like you, I was having trouble figuring out what I was training. In fairness to Jo her positive mindset makes her a good place to start when you want to get in shape and just need to start moving. Heather is for ppl who already are in some sort of shape. Must try Oceane!

    I used to do Grow with Jo when I was first getting into working out because they were enjoyable and easier. I now mainly do Heather Robertson workouts and find that I just don’t enjoy so much of the stuff Jo puts out. I find she focuses too much on speed and less on form and I just really don’t enjoy her weight based workouts. I still do them if I want a bit of a lazy day, or if I couldn’t get out for a walk, but her titles are very click bait-y.

    Hi! Very good video! I was doing Jo's videos for a few months because they are doable. For people that are overweight, recovering from illness, or very unfit her videos work. For example, I have tried Caroline Girvain last week and cursed all the way, almost died :). I want my workout to be enjoyable, and Jo does provide that content. I also hate clickbaity titles and losts of diet culture. I will link some of my favorite videos.th-cam.com/play/PLd4ICxsPGAyZCFAshXQOxlAwBlWy9KJf-.html
    I also like BurpeeGirl. But she disclaims she is not a professional trainer so I'm not sure...
