      I’ve seen folding wheels like that for bicycles. They’ve been around for a couple years now. This is the first that I have seen it for wheelchairs though.

    • @autochton
      @autochton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And if it retails at $2500 or so, not wildly out of range of what wheelchairs for everyday use cost today. That's somewhat a first for 'neat prototype' wheelchairs.

      Looks cool. Just have to make sure people don't use it like in the video cause twisting, lifting and over reaching like that guy is how you can hurt yourself :(

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. I've had to use a wheelchair a couple of times in my life and that thing would have been well worth $2500 (assuming it really works). I'm skeptical it will be strong enough or durable enough for normal wheelchair applications.

    5:19. That's perfect for the wheel chair bound person traveling. Once they are at their seat, they can simply stand up and put the wheel chair in a an overhead storage bin.

    no matter how the results of practicality and marketing end up, these wheel technology would have their stages to shine! Good spirit of research and investigation, loving this!

    Cyclocopters could be wild, you can have 4+ rotors that can send air in any direction. This is already used for rapid menauvering of giant ships.

      Maneuvering - yes, but it has a low efficiency and really, I mean REALLY bad scaling.

    WELL THIS WAS SUPER COOL!!! there are sooooo many companies out there that are just trying to re-invent the wheel concept lol sure wont be to toooo long untill our car's tire will enable us to paralel park by the tires making the car move sideways. I had found so e of these weird wheels in another video a few weeks ago, sadly i forgot to save itto my library. But search enough, and you surely will find some. So iust wanted to say THANK YOU to the genius who made this amazing video. 😊 THANKS AGAIN !!!

    I do like that wheelchair, but that Origami Wheel, if it’s sturdy enough, we could see some military vehicles using that in the near future.

  • @ddegn
    @ddegn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Thanks for another fun video.
    Those origami wheels look really funky. I'm tempted to try making some myself.
    I have a few unusual wheels in my *Fun with Spin* playlist. The videos titled *MecanumPropellerRcControl131112a* (if you watch this one, skip to the two minute mark to avoid my boring explanation) and *OmnibotSpinningStraight140301a* contain robots with unusual wheels.
    A really interesting aspect of omni wheels is they can actually make a robot travel faster than when using normal wheels of the same size. The robot's speed will be 1/(wheelSpeed*cos(angleOffsetFromDirectionOfTravel)). There's a common misconception that omni wheels are slower than normal wheels. Omni wheels can increase the speed of a robot.
    The above speed equation breaks down as the offset angle approaches 90 degrees. You of course don't get infinite speed from the omni wheel. The omni wheel will lose traction first.

      There's a very good reason not to give flying cars to random civilians.
      If your regular car breaks down, you just stop moving.
      A flying car breaks down? you have a two ton projectile.

    #6, #4 & #1 is feasble, but the whole reason why alternative wheels vs air fill tire classic is restricted, is due to traffic violations chase persue, sad truth.

    • @Tiyratania
      @Tiyratania 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well its not that. they could easily make one that does the job better but it wears out faster. trying to make a surface that grips as much as rubber with the durability of metal so it last years

    Most are way too gear featured that can easly become faulty in its own complexity. Wheels take a lot of damage and repitition ware, as its ment to. Some were not wheels at all, but a flight engine.

  • @machinesandthings9641

    People have been reinventing the wheel for decades. Still nothing beats a good ol air filled rubber tire. Kinda like an internal combustion engine versus an electric motor.

    • @scharpmeister
      @scharpmeister 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would argue that the electric motor is much more versatile and useful then a combustion motor in most cases…not all…but most

    No flying cars! One accident, several hundred feet of freefall, and your whole house is rubble.

  • @TheFalconerNZ
    @TheFalconerNZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    People can't drive moving on the ground without crashing when they only have to look left/right & forward/backward, imagine the chaos of adding looking up & down, these flying cars would have to be AI driven with a ton of onboard monitoring to ensure they are safe. Also not sure about energy efficiency as it takes more energy to lift and item than push it (dependant on surface friction) so flying cars would require more fuel per KM traveled, only saving would be from being able to take a direct route reducing KM's travelled but you still need a safe takeoff/landing areas.

    With that convertible rolling track wheel, there is no way that would be practical. The point of the rolling part is to go faster than a tracked vehicle… but if the tire hit anything significant at said higher speed that a normal off-road tire would feel but be able to absorb … that concept wheel would be utterly destroyed because it has no tire volume to absorb anything. All that energy would go right into the actuators and destroy them. Lol

      what about use that wheel concepts of suspension with no air, adn turn it into a flexible thread for this system? (well the part facing outside more flexible while the inner part would be more rigid, as a flexible threadmay go agains the thread reliability

    Push that wheelchair out the door now. Maybe stay away from auto manufacturers when looking for a mass producer, but do it now! Get consumer reports on a prototype and the reviews should sell the lux version. The Red Hot Chili Peppers say give it away now
