Thank you for explaining to those who do not know how the right of public access works in Sweden. We Swedes are raised with the right of public access, so we probably have a tendency to forget how we in Scandinavia are privileged, in this case at least! :-). You are good wilderness ambassadors!
This is awesome. Almost a dead cert to camp out there in January next year, so this helps a lot and I'll definitely check out the maps and charts to find the right spot.
I am coming to Sweeden soon to camp for a month or so. My homeland Croatia is a no go this year, I moved to Germany and Sweeden is actually closer to me and want that freedom of camping like human beign - in freedom with Nature. Takk for a really nice video

One suggestion: If you're going to play music while you're talking, put the music at a lower volume. i found it difficult to hear your talking at times due to the music. Another possibility is no music at all, so your viewers can hear the sounds of the birds, wind, creeks, etc. But hey, you are very fortunate to be able to wander and camp in those beautiful Nordic countries. Don't disturb, Don't destroy. those are the fundamentals in Sweden. Then there are some other rules like, you can't just cut down a living tree, you can't stay in the same place for to long and you may need a pretty cheap fishing card (that you can buy online) in some of the 100+ thousand lakes in sweden. The upside of this law is that you are basically free to roam, pick berries, mushrooms and camp almost everywhere. This law is my favorite.

If you drive to the north of Dalarna which many do, theres several organised parking and camp spots for a small symbolic fee along the road, this is setup to deal with the new pressure of ammount of car and rv campers. At the tourist information lodge in Älvdalen theres a free map showing all of them, take advantage of this new setup bc it relieves crowding and confusion and chaos. Its along the road between Älvdalen and Idre as I remember. Maybe more areas also has this now, the tourist information stations are your friend☺
If you only camp one night, you do not need to ask the landowner, although it is obviously good to do so. Sometimes it is difficult to know who owns the land; a company, an individual owner or state / municipality. If you stay more nights, it may be ok, but shows that you take responsibility if the owners show up. Actually, you should ask, but I have never heard of anyone being send away or prosecuted!

We swedes should send a big thank you to Norway for the nature we've got. As we know ALL the water, soil, rocks, seeds, etc, drifted from the Norwegian side during the last ice ages. We could even say Sweden belongs to Norway and they've let us borrow their land for free. The very least thing we should do is to have a 3 day thankfulness parade every year to thank Norway for letting us live free on their land.

Actually you do not need the landlord's permission to camp on their land at all in Sweden, as long as you only stay one (or a few nights), and as long as you are outside their home-peace zone.
@@zulupox Hello 😀 Not sure if you are Swedish but it's Ida writing here now (I am Swedish) Yes, according to allemansrätten you have the right to do this but I know from experience that not all people would be happy or feel comfortable if you stay to close to their home. Speaking from personal experience I have been given out to a couple of times for pitching my tent too close to someone's property. And I've also seen angry homemade signs from land owners trying to stop people from crossing their land in certain parts. Even tho you're not doing anything wrong it can quickly turn into a very awkward experience if you just assume you can stay anywhere. So I encouraged Joe to mention this in the video 😊 I just think it's nice to check if there is a chance to do so especially if you are staying close to someone else's house and you feel a bit unsure.

Allemanstratten or however its spelled means literally translated “every man’s road”. I love that. It literally means anyone can go there. By that it means go for it. The invisible small print is that you’re going to be a good man or lady and be respectful and sensible to the environment, which all watching this I’m sure would be. Such a shame about all the thick twats that ruin this for us all with their littering and disposable BBQ’s.
Hi! I just wanted to jump in a on a thing you stated about needing permission when camping on somebody land. That isn’t really correct, so when you need permission is if you want to camp on somebody’s yard or within view of their house. If you’re just on their land, you don’t need permission but you are limited to only 1 night of camping, then you need to go! /Swede:)
Very much agreed. I just do always air on the side of caution as increasingly more foreign people come to Sweden to enjoy nature and to keep it friendly and courteous. Hey ! Thanks for being considerate of nature and asking. It's not OK if you are in national parks. In regular forests it's OK. But during the summer it's not necessary and there is many days of fire bans. Best to find a place that has designated fire places if you wish to enjoy a fire. There is so many of them in sweden they are never hard to find.
True. But having camped extensively through out Sweden some land owners dont like finding surprises on there land especially in rural areas. So its just a courtesy to let them know you are there. Not a necessity. But try telling that to an irate farmer haha
Music in the background when someone is talking is a bad idea. If you really have to put it in there then make it really quiet. It does not help to focus/understand of what is he saying.
Hopefully this isnt too late my freind. Are you looking to wild camp or to stay at campsites. Skane is a truly stunning place and I spend a lot of time camping around Immeln. It has a great canoe centre and resources.

You can stop wherever you like. We have what we call "home free zone" though. You have to be at such distance from private homes so you do not disturb anyone. Some few roads are private, very unusual, but there are signs or road blocks that tell you that.
Old comment. But for anyone who stumbles across this question. Some towns and tourist heavy areas have local restrictions. Unless such no camping restrictions apply, you can sleep in your vehicle if legally parked. Just note that taking your vehicle off-road, is illegal pretty much anywhere. So even if the ground is hard and flat and allows a vehicle to drive onto a beach or into a clearing. You are breaking the law and might have the police come and escort you off if the landowner notice and object. Allemansrätten does not extend to vehicles. The camping that is protected is people on foot in a tent. Not cars, RVs, vans, caravans etc.
I'm not saying that this guy isn't right. He is right and repeating the rules almost verbatim. But and its a BIG BUT... The very first thing you learn at any wilderness bush craft school on making fire is NEVER EVER USE WOOD FROM THE FLOOR IT WILL NOT BURN WELL..ITS DAMP...USE ONLY DEAD WOOD STILL STANDING...doesn't this fly in the face of the rules and guidelines in this video ?
I am an instructor myself and agree. But just like the native Americans and more recently the late mors kochasnki rightly said. THE from the floor first, then the standing dead and then the trees the loggers don't want. This is the best way to a healthy forest. Also the dead standing trees are considered part of the Biome.

You are not allowed to cut down any trees even if its dead. Unless you own the land or have permission of course. So sticks on the ground it is.
