    I can’t believe I watched this for an hour and 11 minutes! - It was hypnotic! I actually searched for ‘cleaning up photo scans in affinity photo,’, and ended up here! So I still don’t know how to clean up my scan, but now I want to clean up old photos! Lol… Thanks Andrew. Loved this! And saved it.

    I love this tutorial because so often, retouching tutorials are working with photographs that don't actually have many scratches or tears on them. It's so hard to fix photos, especially when the tears or scratches are on the faces or other important details. This tutorial is so helpful!

      Thanks so much for your comment, kind words and feedback. I appreciate this and know exactly what you mean regarding retouching tutorials. This photo needed a lot of work, and I am glad I recorded it as it seems to have helped a lot of people, so thanks again for letting me know it helped you :)

    Another way to fill the missing corners of the photo is to make a freehand selection of the area including some of the adjacent details. The freehand selection can go out side of the photo. Then go to the fill filter. Then go to mode and select inpainting. If you aren’t happy with the result then cancel and make another larger or smaller freehand selection. Then click apply when you are happy with the result m

      Thanks so much for this! That’s a really great tip and a really good way of filling in the corners. I tried it and it works well, thank you very much as I have never thought of doing it that way! :)

    Wow! Now that is what I'm talking about! Superb video Mister Goodman!
    Such a challenging restoration and, as you said, it always seems that the worst damage always appears over the most important areas of a photograph like the face or down the sides of legs and arms! Sometimes there's nothing left of the original photo as was the case in your lovely family photo.
    But I think you did a fantastic job!
    What I've tried in the past is to paint in missing bits with some of the surrounding colours or use the smudge brush with about 50% flow and strength to try to shape areas that are missing. To be honest, this method is a bit 'hit or miss' but sometimes it works and gives some good results as a ‘last resort.’
    And I learned from you that there's actually a feather option in the free-hand selection tool! Never realised this despite the fact that it's right there in front of me so thank you for that! This is very handy to know and will save me a couple of steps when selecting areas.
    So thanks again for an epic tutorial! Thoroughly enjoyed it, watched it all right to the end and held my breath too at all the critical moments!
    Cheers!

      As always, thanks so, so much Captain for your brilliant comment, feedback and encouragement!!! I really appreciate it :)
      And I salute you for watching the whole video to the very end! I really wasn't sure how this video would go down with it being so long or if anyone would watch it all lol.
      Thanks for the idea/tip about using the smudge brush, I didn't even think about that!
      Thanks again and hope you have a great week :)

    Yes, call me crazy, but I stayed with the entire video. I like seeing how other professionals work. That's how I learn. And it was interesting seeing Andrew walk the line between restoration and making-things-up. I thought he hit the balance pretty well. When it got down to the eyes, what could you really do? But one thing I would have done differently is going with some semblance of the original colors (faded though they were) instead of just going with a duotone. But as you say so often, it's must a matter of personal preference.

    • @CreativeGoodman
      @CreativeGoodman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much for your kind words Brad and well done on lasting the whole video! lol Yeah I was tempted to keep the colours as they were too must say. Thanks for your great feedback, much appreciated :)
