      @@trevorcarman4626 No, he didnt.He could appreciate the compositionnal brilliance, from an objective sstandpoint, but ultimately he respected soul-searching, heartfelt, authentic, cathartic work from an artistic poinnt of View, and therefore was contemptuous towards mainstream and Commercially successful songs with what he considered surface level meaning. The apology is exclusively towards John and not the others and especially not Paul.He did not perform at the Beatles Tribute, or the McCartney tribute.
      Ultimately,, as much as I love the Beatles, part of the reason they broke up was because John and George had lost interest, with all the pressures involved and wanted to move on, but Paul kept them together with masterful management and tying together all the loose ends to continue the masterpieces for at least 2 more years that would have happened, if the other 2 were left to their own devices.
      John's work after leaving the Beatles started with self-examination and catharsis works, through response to "primal scream therapy,, in which he wanted to explore his dysfunction (a measure of a true artist), He then focus the rest of his career, either supporting Yoko in her avant-garde career, bringing up Sean, but otherwise just catharsis, self-examination and social commentary. He no longer Produced an maverick, quiirky musical arrangements, wordplay, lyricall structures, or nonsense songs, but just focus down on truly "authentic" material.
      John also had stopped writing soppy and sentimental music after Rubber soul. He wrote masterpiiece ballads, frequently before and it was clearly a calculated decision that he was going to move on from what he considered regurgitatin of old material types, when he cast derision on some of Paul's work that was commercially successful, but completely unoriginal compared to what they had done. If you like. "Let it be, the long and winding road, She's leaving home, golden slumbers, etcetera, that's fine, but ultimately, they were commercially successful pieces because of Paul's voice and the soppy, shallowness of their meanings. This was the Kind of thing that Lou despised and John was trying to keep away from.Paul still came out with maverick masterpieces, Like "oh darling, I gotta feeling, Get back, Lady Madonna, et cetera", but he should have stopped writing soppy ballads after his masterpieces on Revolver, just like John had on rubber soul. I think if he had done this, there will be less derision passed towards him. As a purveyor of throwaway Sentimental and granny songs, amongst the genius. Because ultimately he Was and is a Genius, but his legacy does suffer from this perception in many people's eyes

      +misterrain837 Hello, I would have liked to see Lou to that performance. He sang like a man in love, with such emphasis, as if there had been his woman before him. What can you want from a woman in love? I think every woman would like a declaration of love, like the one we heard from Lou. The Rock can be romantic, like all styles of music, do not you think? And Lou manages very well to sing the love, those who know his songs by the time knows. Please note: I love John Lennon. But also Lou, of course.

      I think Lou would have preferred to perform "mother" which he considered 1 of the greatest songs eever written,but his rendition of jealous guy I would think was a conciliatory Acknowledgement of John's brilliance, because his critique of the Beatles, was well-known and in his reflection, he had been on record mentioning "mother", as the only thing he respected from any of the Beatles and that was a comment after they had only just broken up.
      Ultimately, he's saying here that John's solo career Was great,, due to its focus on self-examination, catharsis, heartfeltt material and social commentary, Intended to effect social change - "authentic material"

      I am seriously not kidding. Lou does what a real artist does. Fill words on a page with passion and beauty. He takes a great tune, which Lennon did in a "pretty" and mournful kind of way and gives it the real self-loathing that jealousy ultimately leaves one with. True artistry, here.

    It’s amazing to see how John Lennon had an impact as a solo artist on someone like Lou Reed - who was not a Beatles fan at all. It shows how Lennon evolved into something very different. Im a big Beatles fan (especially the the 67-68 period), but I realize we are all different and Lou Reed had this urban, street poetry vibe. He wouldn’t find that element in The Beatles obviously. But I now finally get Lennon’s first solo album.

      That's right, but it needs to be said that John was always authentic, but was progressing gradually through the gears; his solo material is self examination of his dysfunction, leading to catharsis, heartfelt outpourings and Social commentary to affect change, which is Clearly why Lou changed his mind. However, the Beatles work is mainly brilliant, from a Compositional, objective standpoint, due to the originality of the arrangements and the beauty of the melody and lyrical wordplay, but not th depth of The semantics. However, unlike Paul, who I also revere as an artist, John always attempted new things with each new song, he did. For example, he clearly deliberately left soppy and sentimental work behind after rubber soul ando particularly ballads. This was clearly a "deliberate" decision, because you will notice that he was prolific in melodic, sentimental ballads,before that point, with "Norwegian Wood, if I fell, you got to hide your Love away, Help (intended as a, ballad, but coerced into faster beat), in my life, it's only love, et cetera". He then didn't write a single ballad for the rest of the Beatles, except Julia, which was only because of it's self-examination and catharsis. All of his songs after rubber Soul, were of different genres, from Psychedelia, nonsense songs, heavy blues/metal, jazz, rock 'n' roll and hybrids of these in combination, E.g. hey Bulldog, a combination of rock/blues and jazz, or I want you, she's so heavy, which is a bluesy, almost solemn doom metal song and "Yer Blues", which is like a Gothic blues or rock song. Don't get me started on "Happiness is a warm gun(Define that😆?),"
      Paul, on the other hand, continued to "sometimes" regurgitate material they had already covered such as with "let it be, the long and winding road, she's leaving home, golden slumbers and Blackbird".If you like these songs, fine, but this was the kind of thing that Lou despised and John cast derision on 3 of these songs i mentioned, as well as Paul's granny/ singalongsongs as he put it.Thankfully, mccartney still produced some maverick material, e.g. I've Got a feeling, helter-skelter, oh darling and Get back

    • @georgeorr1042
      @georgeorr1042 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Rowlph8888 Very good response! I’m
      Glad you mentioned “I Want You”
      And “Hey Bulldog” - which are killer tracks. I lean more towards Lennon tracks. Paul’s “bouncy” melodies don’t lend to multiple listens as well ( I do have a soft spot for “Fixing a Hole” and “Martha My Dear” though). Lennon melodies are more “direct” with sometimes complex underlying progressions (“I Am the Walrus” or “Lucy in the Sky”). But , remember, Paul plays killer bass on every Lennon tune. A band is a band.

    That was truly awesome. I'm glad that Lou came round in the end to commemorate what a great artist John was. You can probablly take this as acknowledgement of and the kind of grudgging conciliatoryy acknowledgement of that. He had said that one of greatest songs ever written, was "mother", Before he realised it was written by John.
    All the Beatles work before mother, Lou had considered was inauthentic and "Garbage" as he said it, because it wasnt truly from the heart, but was created to play with arrangements and clever wordplay.This is a fair criticism to an extent, as John didn't write his more Personal, cathartic and incisive and cutting social commentary pieces until he was a solo artist.I would argue that during the Beatles, he still produced "in my life.", "Help" "nowhere man" and the like, but as brilliant as the Beatles work was, commerrcially, and as pure art, this is mainly maverick, original, melodic, but surface level in terms of semantics.The Soul-searching, heartfelt, self-examination didn't happen until John came out with his solo stuff

I love NY audience- Loooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Just like when the Mets had Mookie Wilson, people thought they were boos! Same with Bruce Springsteen. I miss you Long Island and NYC. I miss John Lennon every day.

    For those looking for John's version here - listen to it like one half of a conversation. He can't finish the lines. These aren't easy things to say. Hell, if you've ever had to say it yourself, you know it takes will to get those words out. Trick is: John was a sympathetic character when he performed it. Lou makes us guess if he's really repentant or if he's just an ass. Not for everyone- but a pretty bold reinterpretation.

    • @JakeAllen3
      @JakeAllen3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it’s the opposite Lou’s version is open, cathartic, admitting to the mistake as obviously bothered by it, John seems a little holy in his and justifying it with love

    • @Runicen
      @Runicen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JakeAllen3 Definitely a fair interpretation. I guess I can't help but hear Lou in his performance and Lou's reputation for most of his life was pretty well-deserved by most accounts.
