These mirror videos are so useful. One thing to add, make sure the big springs and the bar they clip round are kept oiled, so they don't rust. Both of mine did, and the bottom springs broke, leaving the mirrors a little wobbly.
Hey man! pardon my poor english... I just want to thank you for your knowledge sharing. My left mirror goes down when I try to use memory 2, and now I can understand the issue and hope will resolve it properly... Your other videos about the ZJ are AWESOME too. Thanks again, and as we say in México: Eres un chingón carnal.
Thank you for watching! you motor contacts are probably dirty causing the mirror to default to a down position. You will have to take apart your mirror and clean the contacts.
If you have problems with memory, just drive mirrors from end to end multiple times. That cleans the contact taps and they will work again without need to teardown
Good job and many thanks. Thanks to you I will be able to solve an issue I have for 5 years. Idea for a future tutorial: swapping the steering wheel. I see yours is also in bad condition.
@@ProjectDanH I have already had my glass off since the auto dim fluid leaked. I am holding out on replacing mine because I want another auto dim replacement but just the glass it 100$ lol
I love the zj build Dan !!!! Question though will you do a video on how to restore the steering wheel leather because that's one thing I need to tackle in my zj
@@ProjectDanH I would love to see rewrap....I have looked at replacements at my local pick and pull and it was impossible to find a decent steering wheel that was molested ...... They have some kits on eBay too that aren't pretty reasonable !
Thanks Brother! I have a 5.9 memory seat but the leather was bad. I was in the process of putting the memory module on my 4.0 seats but realized all the motors are different. memory motors have an extra solenoid on them. maybe one day I'll just replace the whole frame but till then I shelved the memory seat function project.
Luckily my 98 ZJ doesn't have the memory feature LOL. The memory feature in my 96 ZJ was always haywire it seemed. The memory feature in my 96 ZJ also was supposed to readjust the driver's seat along with the mirrors, none of it ever worked properly, so I'm not upset that my current ZJ doesn't have that feature. The auto dimming mirrors are very nice to have though.
🤔 I wonder if your memory buttons got water in em an maybe shorted something?? Oh well either way theyre gone now, lol. Maybe one day Ill hunt down that auto dim feature.
@@ProjectDanH That whole door panel got water in it quite frequently, but they never worked from the beginning so it wasn't a water problem it was a factory design flaw. My 96 ZJ was offroad more than it was on the highway LOL, it was covered in mud most of the 8 years I owned it, and it still managed to be trouble free till the viscous coupler in the transfer case failed around the 219K mark and I finally sold it at 232K miles still ran and drove great just needed a transfer case rebuild or replacement, and the guy who owns it now just swapped the 249 out and put a 242 in it and has been driving it daily the past several years trouble free as well...not sure if that thing will ever die last I saw it this spring he had 680k on it.
Hello Dan I have a question I disconnected my battery and reconnected the terminal and the mirrors memory mirrors reset every time I turn the key off anon how can I fix it 😭
Hey Dan, I'm having an issue with my mirrors tilting down and not returning to the up position. Every time I enter my ZJ I have to adjust both mirrors up. As long as I don't use the key fob to lock the vehicle the mirrors will stay. I've tried setting the memory on the door but the mirrors don't seem to accept the memory set. Help me out brother! Lol
you'll have to dig into the motor and clean the contacts out and make sure they are making a good connection. overtime crud and ware will disrupt your connection making your mirrors to go into default mode resetting then to the down and away position.
So I have the same exact cherokee...but I have a problem with trying to get it to go past 70mph and my overdrive is ON ....it doesn't overheat or anything it runs great and drives...but the problem where it only covers half the speedometer...I was flooring it and it just would never go past 70...u know why? Or how I can fix?
Hey,. Thanks for the question. That's very strange to me. I haven't experienced a problem like that. Maybe the overdrive is says it's on but it's not engaged. Any check engine lights?
Awesome video! but,.. mennn.., Finally found a working chromatic mirror. Shipped over to The Netherlands, and that that piece shit was so hardly glued on the bracket that I broke the mirror while removing it. There was no way I could save the mirror. Bye bye $$.. I was wondering if you could re-fill those electrochromatic mirrors. As long as the glass is not broken you should able to remove the old liquid with a needle and re-fill with fresh electrochromic gel right? Anyway, next time if I ever find a electrochromatic mirror, I will destroy the whole casing for it in order to safe the glass. blegh such a sad day
my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver side mirror rotates way past the normal detent. In fact it rotates forward towards the front of the car and when I push to rotate in it keeps going until it crunches to a stop. I tried rotating it a few times to reset the rotation range but to no avail. Is there a memory chip for this function? Why all of the sudden did this happen, I looked online and other JGC’s have this issue also…
One more excelent video ...about ZJ fix by yourself. Congratulations.
thank you! Glad you enjoyed it

Great job. I have a 97 5.2, almost all the parts are interchangeable. I think that's fresh👍🏽
It sure is! God bless!
Awesome vid! Gotta do the same with both my mirrors, had no idea that electrochromic glass was that expensive, wow!
Thanks Chris! Yeah too rich for my blood.. I opted to bypass the Auto Dim this time around. Still, very impressive for a mid 90's Jeep.
Meticulous Dan, great job! It’s basically a limited now.
Thanks bro! Lol.. you're right 😁
You should fix my mirrors, seeing as you're so good at it at this point.
Another awesome video
🤣 Sure! why not!
If you have problems with memory, just drive mirrors from end to end multiple times. That cleans the contact taps and they will work again without need to teardown
this works sometimes, not always.. many times a teardown is necessary
You love tinkering with electronics! You have much patience 🦗🤣❤️🐞
Lol.. I guess I do! It's fun as long as it works in the end 😁
Nice job dan👍🏾

Yes. That is what I did

Its usually due to bad contacts in the motor. you may have to take it apart and clean it
