I LOVE your videos. You're a Fig Motivational Speaker!! I live in NORTH New Jersey and plant my trees in-ground. I plant them in twos, one dark, one light, growing them as one tree and wrap them for winter together (using a heating element). People get a kick out of seeing different fruit on one tree. You've convinced me that I need a Ronde de bordeaux. It will need a bride. Is there a HONEY fig that is worthy? Something that will complement it in size and fertility?
The Italian Honey fig (which I have featured in some of my videos) is an extremely reliable and productive, light, honey, fig variety that does taste good when grown in both containers or ground. It's a no nonsense, very hardy, vigorous tree which has withstood the rigours of back growing conditions for many decades. Good luck!
Now I have to see about adding the desert king to my list of figs! I just don't seem to do very well with cuttings. I think it's better for me to find air layered, rooted trees.
Another great video Lou , very interesting figs look great, i think these Governors are over doing the lock downs nobody can live that way , it will destroy the summer , good luck and have a good summer.
Hello Lou, Thanks, I see you plant the fig very close to the house, is it ok ? it won't do any harm to your drainage system ? I will look and see if we have Peter's Honey in my area.
Lou, noticed that your RDB planted next to the house. There's no concern in regards to fig tree roots damaging concrete foundation or lifting of cement walk path?
I have a question about desert king! If this fig only produces on last year’s growth then how do you keep the size down? If you prune it, then you will not get a harvest the next year?
Hi there! Pruning a Desert King must be deliberate and careful, like with any Fig tree, but it's even more so with a San Pedro type! Never (or very rarely) remove too much of last years growth while pruning or, of course, the harvest will be significantly effected afterwards. I cover this topic in more detail in several of my videos. Thanks for viewing! Regards from, Lou Monti
You convinced me Lou . I just planted a peters honey in ground yesterday. I’m going to wrap it over the winter. Thanks cuz!
You have convinced me Lou! I have a rooted cutting of Peter's Honey which I am overwintering outside here in Victoria, BC

Thank Lou for the valuable tips! I’m in Virginia and I don’t where to get one like this in my area
Lou can you share a list of trees you believe do not do well in pots? I don’t have any ground space, so I have to use pots exclusively.
Hi there! What is your zone and state?
