January is really going to be an intense month for anyone who is a fan of Kabuki, especially for those who are a fan of Jidaimono like me. But brother, I have a question that has been tormenting me for a long time: recently the Yorozuya house held their shumei, with Nakamura Tokizo V becoming Nakamura Manju I, Nakamura Baishi IV becoming Nakamura Tokizo VI and Tokizo VI's son becoming Nakamura Baishi V. However, if I remember correctly, Manju I has a younger son, Nakamura Mantaro, who, unlike his father and older brother, followed the path of his uncle, Nakamura Kinnosuke II and cousin, Nakamura Hayato I and became a tachiyaku actor, focusing only on male roles. Any idea why he isn't in the Yorozuya's name-taking ceremony, even though he is the son of Manju I, the head of the Yorozuya house?

The young Mantarō did in fact appear in the Yorozuya ceremony at the Kabuki-za, just in smaller roles, which is somewhat justified, considering the big names that gathered to celebrate the occasion. He had a small part in Mikasayama Goten, then a slightly more important one in Yamanba, and he even appeared in a supporting role in Shidō's Sakanaya Sogorō.
He has been very busy this year, paying his dues as a young actor, so let's see where his career goes!

TH-cam has a Japanese to English subtitle feature. You can see the cc on the bottom right of the screen. Be aware that not all Japanese videos have the translation feature and they are not always accurate but this channel has the translation feature.
